I know this was last week and it is probably a giant faux pas that will get me forever banned from the complaint thread - but this is such total and utter non-sensical silliness. I am pretty sure that the cranky old farts a generation ahead of me would have said the same things about my peers - my peers and I that ended up spending over a decade of our lives collectively shuffling in and out of the Middle East.

I think the real problem is that older generations had/have lower emotional intelligence and thought it was some sort of effed up badge of honor to "grin and bear it" or "suck it up". Not too long ago it was commonly held that "men don't cry" and other toxic crap like that.

I think it is great that the current crop of youngsters has no problem telling their elders when the are wrong, are behaving poorly, and generally have no clue. I see a genuine effort from them to avoid the mistakes of the past. Good for them.

    Settle down, Snowflake.

Bettman is employed by the owners, right?  I presume then a majority of the owners are OK with this.  🤷‍♂️

Where TF was this when we were trying to do the same with Tim Connolly?

We have always been the awkward sister that is not allowed nice things.

Now, now. Every team is afforded the same opportunity to win. If they don’t, it has to be their own fault.

Fair enough, I respect that. My reasoning for wanting/liking expansion is two fold. I believe a larger American footprint will increase TV deals, increase revenue, increase the salary cap, I believe this strengthens the overall health of the league. Vegas and Seattle have been very successful so far. The other reason is I'm hoping that if the NHL gets enough teams they will have no choice but to go to a schedule where each team plays every other team home and home. That's the only way to get a true balanced schedule. No divisions, no conferences, just one table where the top 16 teams make the playoffs and teams are appropriately seeded. No more playoffs where two of the top five teams end up playing in the first round.

Why do you care about an increased in revenue or cap? Tickets are already too expensive and the league is already strong. I genuinely don’t care about a balanced schedule, either. That stuff works itself out over an 82 game season and 4 rounds of playoffs, anyway.

More importantly, none of that makes the game itself better. There are too many historically AHL level players already in the league. With less elite talent to go around, percentage wise, you will see more dynasties as teams amass a bunch of good players, which is absolutely not good for the league overall. It certainly won’t be good for the Sabres,… or Nashville.

The biggest thing people miss is that by the prism of wanting an exceptionally slow, long form, “we love to be patient and never have results as long as the prospect pool ranks highly” style rebuild: everyone else does it/ has done it faster. Except for the exceptionally distant outliers

we can hope that it’ll just take more time, but the plan has already proven to have objectively struggled relative to other teams (most teams do this, we aren’t special) who have employed it

we are forced to erroneously tout “length” of build as a badge of honor (patience!) because we have no other metric by which we can compare to other teams. “Maybe if our long build is longest we’ll be best” lol

No, the plan has failed so far. Its first big goal measure was this season and we’ve failed. By the intrinsic targets of this specific plan. That doesn’t mean I’m ready to scrap the regime but I wouldn’t give them a 3rd mulligan

if we make the playoffs next year, that in and of itself isn’t the mark of a “successful” plan anymore as taking 5 years to make the playoffs is an absurdly long time and the stated point of a long term build was to avoid “merely fielding a playoff team”. If that’s all we wanted it’s a 1-3 year process max with competence

Now, if they make the playoffs, make them again the next year, and the next, and go on to win “multiple Stanley Cups,” then, and only then, should we think the plan was successful.

I'm not going to be comparing how Byram does with the Sabres to how Mitts does with the Avs.

What I'm really interested in is Yakov Trenin. The Avs picked him up from Nashville for a 3rd round pick in 25. He's a decent 3rd line winger. I'm very interested in how the Avs use him going forward compared to how the use Mitts, who the line up with and how they produce.

I bet there is a thread about that over on the Predators forum.

"Sounds like they are preparing to miss again next year". I don't know what you were listening to dude, but that's a ridiculous comment for someone to make if they did indeed listen to it.

This has been a disappointing year, but I'm hopeful for many years of success coming. What is more disappointing has been reading flat out dumb comments this season from so-called fans spewing a lot of crap, in my opinion. I'm very disappointed in a lot of the posters on this site. Flame away.

    I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all.

Whats disappointing to me is that people can still buy into their promise of the future, while watching them do nothing to change that future. Unless the internal cap (which I personally believe exists) gets lifted, and we see a much different off-season this summer, I think we’re going to get the same season we have seen this year.

  7. SMH.

This is his 18th year in the league and people are still questioning his fitness?! Curse of the fat face, I guess. I would bet that 3/4ths of this board wishes they were as fit as he is.

I think he would make the Sabres better if they got him. He couldn't produce any less than Benson, who we are all in love with, myself included.

Probably not.  I think 6K will get every game until Sabres are officially eliminated from the playoff.  In that case by the 19th you may get Levi.

Aren’t rosters locked. People also keep mentioning trying out young guys the rest of the season. I thought that could only happen through an emergency call up due to an injury. Do I have that right or is that date later in the season?
