But there are things that happen after the whistle. The Sabres are almost always in the receiving / losing end of those shenanigans.  I’d prefer they be the ones doling out the BS rather than constantly being victims.

That stuff really does happen all the time. It's not even that big of a deal. I wish the Sabres did it more.

Watch the replay.  Who looks for a confrontation after disabling someone with a hit from behind?   He quietly skulked away like a kid who got away with something.

Coward move.   You guys defending it surprise me.

No it does not.  Not like that.

    Sure.

I would respect a face to face confrontation and then drop them.  A slash to the boot when behind him, and then quietly skate away is the act of a coward, it was in the 1960-70's and it still is.

And it still happens every game, just not caught by the tv crew.

I lost all respect for Scheifele for that.  He knew exactly what part of the boot to hit to injure him, he could have slashed him in the shin guards to make a point, but he tried to injure.  And he did it nonchalantly to keep it under the radar from the refs.   He did it because Dahlin threw two big time reverse checks on that shift and flattened a few Jets.

Scheifele is no tough guy, he has a few fights and he always gets  destroyed.   I hope Dahlin takes him on in the next meeting.

Great explanation of exactly why I respect him for doing that.

We need guys that do this.

There were some draft analysts who considered him to be generational. You cited Bowman as an example. What I have been saying is that he is not, although he is an all-star. Based on his play he is probably our best player who is an upper echelon defenseman. He is not a generational player and shouldn't be judged by those standards.  Crosby and McDavid are generational players. Dahlin is good but not at that historical level.

Since you can't get past this pedantry, let me add some of my own. I originally said "he is supposed to be elite..." You fall into the category who believes that, "generational to some..." You are not one of them, but they are still out there.

My original statement stands and was not a ridiculous reach to be dramatic.

    I'm done.

Dahlin should be better than he is and it's frustrating to watch.

Bowman made a prediction on him before he played in the league or just started off in the league. So what! Would the distinguished Bowman say that now? Of course not. You created a standard that no current analyst in the league would now say. Dahlin is an all-star caliber defenseman. He's not the best but he certainly is in the upper echelon. Your argument is a manufactured argument that no one other than the partisan fanatic would make.

There were others at the time of his draft. And you are right, nobody would or should say that about him now. And I already said that isn’t even why he is frustrating to me.

There are plays where he is just lazy because he thinks he can get away with it. He doesn’t doesn’t have that next gear that you talked about with the Jets. At least I haven’t seen it.

Who has said that he is a generational player? Maybe some fanatic fan who is a delusional partisan has made that ridiculous claim?  The vast majority of normal fans have never categorized him as a player at a historical level. Let's just stop with making up stuff. Dahlin is arguably our best player who gets an overload of minutes. He is an all-star caliber of player. But trying to make an argument that he is a failure/disappointment because he hasn't attained the historical pinnacle of his profession is a manufactured and wasteful position to take.

    Scotty Bowman.

“This is one of those years where there’s a generational-type defenseman available and that’s not always the case,” Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman said. “Everybody says this Dahlin is the best in a while on defense.”

Not manufactured and not a waste.

I’m not disappointed because he’s not generational. I’m disappointed because he is outright bad and lazy, often. If he’s tired, he should get off the ice.

Who is this player? Can’t wait to hear the answer. Remember Dahlin is not that good according to you so it can’t be any of the top players in the league.

I never said that. I said he wasn’t as good as he thinks he is.

He’s supposed to be elite,… even generational, to some.

We have yet to see him take over a game, something generational players do.

Tonight, he had the puck along the boards, down by one, his only job is to clear the zone. His lazy play ended up in the net. Game over. Not the play of an elite player.

I wasn’t really commenting on the opinion as much as the motivation but I would disagree slightly with your assessment. A flawed team getting hot and overtaking five or six equally flawed teams seems a lot more plausible then the same flawed team then winning four series against teams clearly better.

While I don’t expect the Sabres to do it, for the first time in years I think Buffalo is capable of being better than all but maybe five teams in the conference. Washington, Pittsburgh and Tampa are clearly on the downturn of their cycle.

    It’s still not impossible.😂

I get that you prefer to play the pessimist and I understand why you would get there. What I don’t understand is why you have such disdain for those who don’t choose to wallow in misery.

He’s not wrong, though. I don’t find his take any more ridiculous that the op.

I’ll watch every game. I’ll even root for an heroic run to 9th. It means we’lol get to watch some great hockey for the next month and a half.

I didn’t say I had hope. I’m just making a point that the numbers don’t jive with the way the narrative is going. Have they been a disappointment, certainly. Am I preparing to put a deposit down on playoff tickets? No.

Actually, the numbers are in perfect sync with the direction of the “narrative.”

I’m not really sure what the point of this thread, is other than to maybe bone up on some basic math.

  12. No work today. Heading up to Vermont for the weekend with family. Hope it’s snow and not rain tomorrow, although, I don’t really care either way. I use my Duluth Trading Co rain gear to snowboard in. If I bought the same stuff in a ski shop, it would have been double the price. The only thing I don’t get is a powder skirt, but, it’s the east. How often am I going to need that?!

Just getting out of Jersey will be worth it. 😂

Tampa has been garbage lately. major slump and they looked it tonight as well imo. Philly beat them 6-2 the game before. They are not playing well at all.

That's what I saw, very low energy and a very low event game. In a word it was BORING.

I'm glad they won, but I didn't see much of anything to get excited about from either team. Clifton threw one grade A hit but that's all I can think of for big plays. Tage's goal was fine, and sometimes he hits those just right, but it was just another one of those many many low danger shots from the same area and most times they get stopped or go off target. I mean they won, but it was not a good game and I definitely don't see this "heart" that was referenced.

Greenway crushed Hagel with a big hit in the last minute, as well.

I do agree that it looked like a pretty sloppy game between two okay teams. Although, it did have a playoff vibe last night, which I liked.

Thomson’s goal was great, but it pissed me off at the same time. He plays his own game and refuses to use his linemates at all. It’s no wonder that people think Skinner floats. Why should he try if he knows he’s never getting a pass.

I’m sure many people here disagree but the tank has absolutely zero bearing whatsoever on this team. Every team in the league has made the playoffs since 2017 except for one.

A second hot take, if Tim Murray was given five years he would have had us in the playoffs.

More than anything the thing that has set us back so much was replacing Tim Murray and his hockey ideology with J-Botts who has an ideology on the opposite end of the spectrum. The fact that Bottrill was an awful GM is less impactful than that he wanted to completely rebuild the team in another direction.

    Damn.

    I still blame the Tank.
