Am I then safe to assume you have written off the upcoming game @ NJ! We haven't won in their building in years I think. Yes the Sabres have a habit of losing to the teams that they shouldn't! Poor preparation on their part. Not exactly the makings of a Cup calibre team
NJ doesn't have the distractions that South Florida does... Also, if you look at the 2nd loss in NJ last year, the Sabres were playing their second game in 2 nights, Briere was suspended and Marty started. Marty did not give his best performance of the year giving up a questionable goal about a minute into the game. Not a good start to a team that is happy to sit on a one goal lead.
You're right the Sabres lose to teams that they shouldn't sometimes. However, once again it's an 82 game season. Looking at the standings, if the season ended today, of the 16 "playoff" teams:
1. Buffalo: Lost to Florida and Washington.
2. Atlanta: Lost to Tampa in a shootout, Lost to Philly in OT, Lost to Tampa, and got shelled by Tampa.
3. NJ: Lost to Pittsburgh, Lost to Phoenix, Lost to LA.
4. Montreal: Lost to Chicago, Lost to Florida, Lost to Philly.
5. Carolina: Lost to Washington, Lost to Florida, Lost to Tampa.
6. Rangers: Lost to Pittsburgh, Lost to Florida, Lost to LA, Lost to Washington, Lost to Pittsburgh.
7. Islanders: Lost to Phoenix, Lost to LA, Lost to Pittsburgh, Lost to Tampa, Lost to Tampa in OT, Lost to Pittsburgh, Lost to Philly.
8. Ottawa: Lost to Colorado, Lost to Washington in OT, Lost to Tampa, Lost to Washington.
1. Anaheim: Lost to the Islanders in OT, Lost to Philly, Lost to Chicago in OT, Lost to Colorado in OT, Lost to LA.
2. Nashville: Lost to Chicago, Lost to Chicago, Lost to Vancouver in OT, Lost to Chicago in OT, Lost to Phoenix.
3. Edmonton: Lost to Vancouver, Lost to Phoenix, Lost to St. Louis, Lost to Colorado, Lost to Columbus.
4. San Jose: Lost to LA, Lost to Colorado.
5. Dallas: Lost to Vancouver, Lost to Chicago, Lost to Washington.
6. Detroit: Lost to Vancouver, Lost to Vancouver in OT, Lost to St. Louis in OT.
7. Minnesota: Lost to Colorado, Lost to Phoenix, Lost to Colorado in OT, Lost to Columbus.
8. Calgary: Lost to Washington, Lost to Columbus in OT, Lost to LA.
Those are just some examples of beatable teams that these teams lost to. So either there are no cup caliber teams this year...or every team gets beat by a lessor team sometimes.

Nobody is predicting a doomday scenario, but I've read a ton of excuses why this team lost, and not just last night. These range from poor ice, to, oh the refs are biased against us. :wallbash:   My point was and remains that the record of this team is not an accurate reflection of this teams level of play, especially of late! If they don't level the ship there is going to be a huge sucking sound in western ny. A win may be a win in the columns of the newspaper, but it does not always accurately reflect the play on the ice.
Last year was last year and has no relevence to this season! I am not overreacting, simply indicating a symptom of a festering disease that appears to be growing!
Last year and this year are different. But the fact remains the same that we have almost the same team as last year. An 82 game season is full of ups and downs. There are going to be days, even weeks where things just don't go right, and they look terrible.
If I remember correctly everyone started to hit the panic button during our roadtrip out west last year. The talk around here was that the team finally came down to Earth. The team returned back east and went on a tear. They've had a few bad efforts recently, but I have faith that Lindy and our team's leadership can turn things around.
EDIT: As to your last year was last year, this year is this year comment, I would like to note that over the last 2 years the Sabres have played 3 games in South Florida. They have looked terrible in every single one. I don't think that's a coincidence.

How can anyone not be fed up with his nightly display of :censored: nothing...He brings absolutely nothing to the table...At this point I don't think he is even trade bait. All the scouts are nightly witnessess to him phoning in the games. Get off the :censored: bus once this season Al!! :wallbash:
Florida and Washington were very beatable teams as well...didn't help much! NJ and Montreal are much better teams ! :wallbash:
Florida and Washington were both very beatable last year as well. We lost to Washington and lost 3 of 4 to Florida, yet things turned out ok. Don't overreact.

Miller?
 Yes, he was in the camera on all the goals. I was referring to someone else.
Here comes the first string of  losses... the road trip ends 1-4 :wallbash:
So now all that is left tonight is the
I think we're all getting a little worked up here. Montreal and NJ are both beatable teams.

Under normal circumstances I wouldn't really mind. But this is kind of a home job on the 3 stars:

Auld 2nd star? He was barely tested! Miller stood on his head at the other end and gets nothing. Giving Jackman 3rd star is even funnier. If Kalinin didn't take Miller out, no way that shot goes in.
-
Watch all 3 goals over again. You will notice a common person on camera in all 3.
I'll give you a hint. He wears number 45.
-
nobody's been injured so far... paestch got into a fight... and we were served some humble pie. I could care less about anaheim's record at the moment. if it takes a loss to get us back on track for the #1 spot for the eastern conference, that's all i care about.

jiri novotny has gotten beat in every corner, beaten to every puck, and outplayed in every way possible.
i am not pleased.
Yeah Novotny has looked pretty terrible tonight. But hey, at least he hasn't taken out his goalie on a routine shot yet.
-
I love when they get doubled up in shots.
-
3-1 now. this is one craptastic game!
Did that hit Kalinin?
This team is completely hanging Miller out to dry. Absolutely frigging brutal right now. No words to describe this mess.
And yet I'm sure someone will make a post blaming Miller for giving up too many goals.
-
Anyone is an all-star compared to Kalinin at the moment.
No comment on that goal.
-
My Dad just called me and said that they had someone in the booth talking with them, that used to be a Sabre, and said something about the Sabres getting a new logo for next year, and that it would be unveiled at the all star break?
Did anyone else catch this? Was he just saying it in jest, or was he being real?
That would be kind of crappy...all these people went out and bought the new stuff and now they are changing it?
They're probably just referring to the new sleek jerseys. I would be willing to bet they will be the same design, just the sleek fitting sweater.
Randy Moller is doing the color commentary for the game tonight.

Looking for a blue print on how to beat the Sabres, pass around this game film. If Miller wasn't standing on his head, this would be long over.
Heard they were being outshot 28-7 before that 5-3. They threw a lot of pucks at the net before they got one. Had a feeling that Florida was going to kill it off.
This game is exasperating to watch. They can't clear the zone on the PK and when they try they dump it right on a Florida stick.
Roy made a nice save for Miller there.
The shots are at 29-12 now according to NHL.com. Yahoo has them at 23-7. Seems Yahoo is a bit behind.
-
This one?
That's it.
-
You mean the one where he tripped over Belfour afterwards?
I will always remember him winding up for that slapshot, and everyone in my section all growling at once since he always tried it and it never worked. Then he faked it and we were in complete disbelief.
-
Only good thing Sanderson ever did for Buffalo was scoring that one-handed breakaway goal against The Leafs in the conference final in '99.
That was very sweet though.
Don't forget that breakaway goal in the SCF. He deked the whole building with that faked shot.
-
Speaking of the 1998 Sabres, Vanek played that 3-1 like Geoff Sanderson.
-
I hate to see Vanek miss the net on such a good opportunity.
is it me, or is the ice particularly terrible out there? i've never seen the puck bounce so much!
I wonder if some teams have bad ice on purpose when the Sabres are in town.
-
Maybe that'll get 'em going, been an embarassment so far.
Miller must feel pretty alone out there.
That appeared to wake them up. Plus Florida decided to open things up a little bit.
-
Mair is back.
-
Ryan Miller :worthy:
Thank God that period is over
You said it. That save late on Jokinen was HUGE.
-
Some very sloppy play tonight. Miller was awesome in the first. Penalty kill has been good the past few games, great effort by Vanek on the last 30 seconds of that one penalty kill. I hope Mair is alright.
Did anyone catch where he got hurt. I saw him down, but didn't see what shook him up.
-
Lydman took about 5 steps back tonight. He looked like Lydman from last October. However, he played the 2 on 1 nice.
-
Wow, some terrible giveaways early.

Drury is not listed in the paper as being potentially out. Seems to me like he just needed a day off to recover.
