  1. There seems to be a pecking order of which feeds end up on CI. Someone posted last year that it goes by how much each network charges for their feed, and if the parent cable company wants their broadcasts part of a national package (at least for DirecTV). Thus the reason Phlyers feeds are almost never on CI. It definitely isn't strictly using the home / away team's feed. Being in Ra-cha-cha, I don't know which feeds out-of-towners get for which games, but I recall a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth regarding the the Sabres - Bruins games last year.

So, unfortunately, my guess is you'll get the Brick and Jack far more often than anyone should be forced to listen to them.

I remember reading that as well. If I remember right NESN is one of the cheaper networks, and MSG one of the more expensive. Last year we ended up with all NESN. At least all of the games I saw..which was 7 of the 8. Couldn't help the last one, I was out of town and didn't have a slingbox then.

  2. I appreciate your giving me the benefit of the doubt. Just to be sure, I checked again and it was definitely Roy.

Also, I checked the Kovalchuk goal and he was definitely offside. It was close, but a clear offside, so we got hosed.

    Onward and upward.

Yeah the linesman dropped the ball on that one. I could see it on my Slingbox, and I didn't have the fastest connection in the world that night, so it was more like enhanced radio than TV

  3. I DVR'ed the game and have not watched it, but did see the highlights...

I love the offensive attack the Sabres are using, but when forwards don't backcheck, bad things will happen. Case in point...Atlanta's first two goals where a forward was allowed to roam down the middle of the slot with a Sabre gliding behind them. Miller can't bail them out every time.

That being said, it was great to say the Sabres come from behind four times and earn a point!

    GO SABRES!!!

    Agreed.

  4. A few observations:

    1. Atlanta is either the 2nd or 3rd best team in the East (fighting it out with Carolina). They have speed, opportunistic scoring and really good goaltending. Sound familiar? They also have strong veteran leadership in Mellanby and Holik.

    2. I hate to say it, but this was Miller's worst game of the season. He made some big saves but Atlanta's 3rd and 4th goals were both softies and momentum-killers.

    3. I thought Briere was the best Sabre tonight.

    4. Pominville is always in the right place. He missed a couple of good opportunities -- but he was in the right spot to create the opportunities. He just didn't convert those -- but he did put in a goal and 2 assists.

    5. The transition game wasn't nearly as crisp without Tallinder and the resulting shuffle of the defense pairings. No game until thurs., so lots of time to practice.

    6. Roy and Hecht both gutted it up and didn't appear hampered by their injuries.

    7. All in all that was a pretty exciting game. It was just so GD deflating -- every time we scored, they'd come right back within a minute or 2 to retake the lead.

    8. Still -- we don't quit. What a great effort to tie it up. And the OT was thrilling.

    Go Sabres.

Watching the recording now. I am sorry, but I am still trying to figure out how you expected Miller to stop number 3...Strong bounce off the boards to the other side of the net. Am I missing something? Also, honestly, how can you say that this is Miller's worst game of the year? I am now near the end of the second, and I have seen him bail the team out of mistakes several times now.

  5. Went to the game tonight and had a blast. For starters it was empty! Although there were a lot of Sabres fans there. There was a big mix of vintage, red and black and slugs. Not much to add about the game that hasn't been said, although I will say the first goal was in front of us and it was a blast. Miller had a great game. It was definately great to be there to see them tie the record.

I wore my new Miller home jersey. I did get a few comments. The guy at the gate asked me if it was a Pittsburgh jersey. The other 2 comments I got were "Those jerseys are pretty sweet," and "That jersey is pretty cool."

  6. Just a few thoughts about the game.

    1. Miller had a great game tonight. He was definately there when we needed him. He definately deserved a shutout tonight, but I will take the W!

    2. I expected better out of the Habs fans. Anytime there is a penalty on the Habs they boo. Anytime someone on the Habs falls down, they want a penalty. They wanted Vanek called for tripping when someone tripped over his own two feet.

    3. I really did not like Kovalev tonight.

    4. Campell, if you're going to try to hook someone and take a penalty, at least break up the scoring chance!

  7. Okay.. How about above average goal tending

Everytime I look at the conference standings I just shake my head. I can't recall the last time a Buffalo * team lead the league in scoring. Maybe back in the Bills hey dey. But 42 goals is awesome. 5.2 goals per game blows away my expectations for October hockey.

I still disagree. Miller could easily be putting up top 5 stats by the end of the year. Biron has looked great this year as well.

Huet, despite his less than stellar start this year did put up top 5 stats last year, and Aebischer is no slouch either.

Briere gets one tonight. He is playing great

I don't seem to remember him getting a goal. He did have a nice assist though.

  8. These team looks very evenly matched. This game will break on breaks. Powerplays will probably determine it. I don't see a lot of even-strength goals. They both have speed, great shooters and decent goal tending. They have similar PP and PK stats. Montreal had the better game the first time around and lost on some late period lapses/heroics. If you want to see how good you are, play the best and beat them. That is all the incentive they need. I see this as a one goal game: 3-2. We are due to lose and my poll prediction was this was going to be the game. Third game in four nights and on the road to boot against a quality opponent.

They win tonight and I predict they don't lose until November. Islanders are down this year. Atlanta will be tough, but we will be home and rested. Atlanta will be playing their fourth road game in six nights and will be tired.

I think both teams have much more than decent goaltending.

  9. Still not completely happy. We were spending an awful lot of time in our end. When Bergeron was called for tripping, I think Chara could have easily been called on the same play.

And Sorry Blue, but I think Roy Max and Vanek are going to be playing together for a long time! :D

Oh, and even though it's a new season and new team, I still have not heard Savard's name in the defensive zone.

  10. I see Marty getting the nod tonight, but don't be surprised if Miller starts both games of back to back series this season.

Not saying he'll start ALL b2b games, but miller seemed to get alot of consectutive starts last year

Monday will be the 3rd in 4 nights. Last time we had 3 in 4 nights, Marty got a start.

  11. Just reading over on the Canes board...

Just to paraphrase and respond to a few of my favoritesv(I don't really feel like registering over there):

"The Sabres don't have enough depth. We would have won last year if we carried 8 NHL defensemen."

Last time I checked we went down to #10 on the depth chart. It was also suggested that the Sabres should have made some moves when we had injury trouble....That's a good idea...oh wait the NHL has a trading deadline. DOH.

They had 5 players out of the lineup tonight...So when we have that many guys out of the lineup and lose it's an excuse. When they have that many out and lose, it just shows they are a better team? I am failing to see the logic there.

My absolute favorite is that the officiating was suspect. Brind'Amour holding Vanek's stick was apparently a bad call. Now maybe I am missing something but I watched that play twice. Brind'Amour grabbed Vanek's stick, held it, let go and grabbed it again for good measure. Hmmm. Suspicious indeed!

  12. I expect Marty to get the start. This has nothing to do with how Miller played last night, but due to the sheer fact that Marty should get 1 start in most back to backs.

By the way...did anyone else notice this year that the more shots Miller faces, the better his performance?

  13. Just finished watching the game on the DVR (Had to go see Flags of Our Fathers tonight!) Good to see them come away with the win despite having a lot of bad bounces. Just a few of my thoughts.

I was really disappointed with Lydman's giveaway...it reminded me of some plays he made early last season.

I thought the call on Roy should have been a trip and a dive. When your guy gets past you, you can't just turn around and swipe at his skates. With that being said, Roy appeared to embelish a little bit.

I am still confused as to how Kalinin was called for interference. If anyone interfered there it was Cole.

Despite giving up 4 goals on 20 shots, I thought Miller had a pretty solid game. The 1st goal was on a terrible giveaway, and the 2nd and 3rd were patened Carolina fluke goals. I didn't like the rebound he gave up on the 4th goal. But with that being said, he made some huge saves early especially on the Staal breakaway.

  14. Anyone have access to stats that shows how a team does historically the game after a blow-out win? I kept thinking the other nite, save some goals for the HatedCanes...

Not exactly. But I do know that January 14, 2006 the Sabres beat the Kings 10-1. The next game was January 16. The Sabres beat the Oilers 3-1.
