  1. starting marty is the best way to shake things up with this team... With a team of scrubs, like the flyers or 01-02 sabres, you could bench so an so, adjust lines, and do things like that. This team is so chemistry driven that changing the goalie seems to be the best option... Not to mention that marty's the starting goalie for 20 out of the 30 teams in the NHL anyways. The BN quoted ruff as stating that marty will either start tonight or tomorrow...

Which 20 teams would Marty start for?

Anaheim? Nope, they have 2 goalies that are better.

    Atlanta? No.

Boston? Maybe, but I would give Thomas a slight edge.

    Calgary, Not a chance.

    Carolina? No.

    Chicago? No.

    Colorado? Maybe, but unlikely.

    Columbus? Maybe, but probably not.

    Dallas? No.

    Detroit? No.

    Edmonton? No.

Florida? He could probably start here.

L.A.? Maybe, but Garon would probably beat him out.

    Minnesota? No.

Montreal? No, they have 2 goalies that are better.

Nashville? No, they have 2 goalies that are better.

New Jersey? Nope, Brodeur is better.

Islanders? Nope, I'd take DiPietro over Marty.

Rangers? Nope, I'd definately start Lundqvist over Marty.

    Ottawa? No.

Philadelphia? He has a good chance, although I'd give Niittymaki a slight edge.

    Phoenix? Close, but yes.

Pittsburgh? No, Fluery has a lot of potential and he needs to play to develop.

St. Louis? No, I would take Legace over Marty.

San Jose? No, they have 2 goalies that are better.

    Tampa? Yes.

Washington? No, I'd take Kolzig over Marty.

    Toronto? Maybe.

    Vancouver? No.

EDIT: The team is 29-8-3, nothing needs to be shaken up. They had a bad game and that's it. Don't create problems that don't exist yet.

  2. I'm not saying anything to start a goaltender controversy, or shake things up - but rather to give him a rest. He's played 5 straight with back-to-back games coming up, and Ryan's last game was a clunker, even if the goals he allowed were not his fault. I am voting to give him a night off against the Pens, and let him come back fresh for the Leafs. Period, end of story. You agreed the weekend was being split - are you disagreeing about which games to play them in?

I wasn't arguing with you. You were not the one suggesting that we shake things up. If I were Lindy (which I am not), I originally would have gone with Marty tonight and Ryan tomorrow. However, after the last game, and knowing that most goalies are kind of quirky I would give Ryan the start tonight, to basically show him it's still his job and that the coaching staff still has faith in him.

Unless Biron gets a shutout tonight, that is.....

By saying that, didn't you just assure that he won't?

  3. No problem here with Marty tonight and Ryan against the Laffs...

This weekend was being split no matter how the Ottawa game went. I just hate discussions of a goaltending controversy.

Ryan Miller is 21-6-2. It seems after each of the 6 losses, someone thinks we need to start Marty to "shake things up," or start a goaltening controversy.

  4. 8pm

I'd love for biron to start tonight. Not that miller was the sole reason for the sens loss, but this team needs a shakeup. Paetsch in for Tallinder also, but that really does not worry me. Tallinder hasn't really helped the PP, and he was great with the PK till wednesday. The shakeup will be good for the sabres. Tonight they have the neutralize malkin and crosby and hope that they can grind out a goal if they come out flying in the 1st. Wednesday's game was totally mental. They lost that game because they did not score early and were scored upon shorthanded. Totally mental... which they can't get trapped with tonight against the pens. Buffalo 3, Pittsburgh 2, OT. The Sabres need an OT thriller... haven't had one of those in a while.

 You always want to start Biron to shake things up. I think if Miller gets the nod tonight, he's going to come out mad, and when he comes out mad good things happen. Biron should get one start this weekend, but not tonight.

  5. We played a terrible game tonight. Who cares:

    1. Ottawa had our number for most of the regular season last year.

    2. The Sabres are still 1st in the conference by 7 points with 2 games at hand on Atlanta. They are leading the division by 10 points, and they've won 4 of their last 5.

    3. There will be other bad games this year. It's an 82 game season. It's full of ups and downs. There have been a lot more ups than downs this year.

  6. Uh oh.. Vanek got crunched... Hope he isn't hurt. He's still on the bench though..

EDIT: He's back and playing.. no worries I guess.

Sabres putting all kinds of shots on goal but nothing is going in...

Emery is not giving them much to shoot at, and when he does, they miss the net!

  7. Emery will make or break the Senators tonight. He was named one of the NHL's "3 Stars" last week (per TSN.ca: Emery backstopped the Senators to three consecutive victories, posting a 0.66 goals-against average, .977 save percentage and two shutouts. Emery improved his season record to 15-9-0 with a 2.42 goals-against average, a .923 save percentage and three shutouts.)

So he's hot right now, which to me is strange because he always looks so rattled in there.

BTW, Comrie isn't playing for them 2nite is he?

Could be an interesting goaltending matchup. Miller's 1.00 GAA, and .967 SV% in his last 3 starts is not too shabby either.

  8. He has a penchant for allowing soft goals when approaching a shutout (not that it was the case tonight necessarily), and many times is noones fault but his own. A shutout is a shutout. I get the feeling that you believe that since the sabres play a wide open style, that somehow millers saves are somehow more important or meaningful than any other goalie's, anyways I dont buy it at all.

Not that it was necessarily the case tonight, but because the Sabres play such a wide open style, the other team gets more quality chances than they would against another team. For example, Brodeur has a bunch of shutouts this year, but his team also will sit on a 1 goal lead and not give up quality scoring chances, where the Sabres will keep pressing.

  9. I would like to see a little more patience from the PP. 2nd game in a row where I have seen someone force a shot despite someone clearly being in the shooting lane. An extra pass takes a lot less time than going down the ice to recover the puck and get everyone set up again.

  10. I'm listening to the game online from the Buffalo feed. Great to hear Rick and Jim!!!

I just heard Miller make a spectacular save. Who did he stop?

I've heard that too. Too bad they won't play HNIC on any of the American networks.

He stopped Park. Basically a shot hit the cross bar hard, came out. Park had what looked like a wide open net. Miller dove across to make the glove save.

  11. I don't have much to say since I missed the last week of games for my wedding and honeymoon, but while losing to St. Louis is no fun, it's not the end of the world.

    1. It's an out of conference game.

    2. Losing to St. Louis should be a wake up call.

    3. Losing before the Christmas break will give them something to think about.

  12. Went to the game tonight. Had a good time. The place was empty. You guys probably saw me on TV, I was the guy in the stands. Sorry bad joke. Seriously, there were a ton of Sabres fans there. I thought Miller played great tonight. Too bad he didn't get the shutout. From the replay I saw, it looked like the first one was a goal by about an inch. The second one looked like a good shot. I thought it was kind of funny how the 10 Devils fans still at the game acted like they just won the cup when they scored the first one.

As for the comments by the Devils announcers, the Devils were able to skate with the Sabres and play their game for 20 minutes....It takes 60 to win the game.

  13. Campbell already is an assistant captain I believe.

Campbell wore the A for one game in the preseason. Whoever is not wearing the C for the night gets 1 A, Teppo usually gets the other.

Great game tonight. I thought we got a little sloppy at times, but overall I thought it was well played. Miller played great again. The PP wasn't great, but Montreal had a really good PK going.

I thought Sekera looked really good for his first game. He made a couple of mistakes, but everyone does from time to time.

  14. at least he's not injured. he has a flu or something, so if he plays, he'll be 100%, if not, i feel for the guy. Being truly sick does suck the big one. Either way, its a rallying point, which the sabres desperately need.

Yeah, when you're sick even the most mundane things can be a hassle. I can't imagine someone being able to compete at that level if they had a serious flu bug or whatever he has.
