  1. Hey, I am all for not hitting the panic button as much as the next guy....

Buuuut, this team has now lost four of six, so in my eyes, it's no longer an issue of "just a rough patch" or "no big deal." To be honest I am getting concerned again, because losing games is bad enough, but the manner we have lost these recent ones is disturbing. Our offense has disappeared (12 goals over the last 5 games); some of our D are looking shaky (Teppo looks to me like he really needs a night or two off, and Kalinin has been his usual inconsistent self) and the PP has become a full-on, official nightmare. I am nervous that this is (or is the start of) one of those slumps that could bite us on the ass in the race for home-ice advantage. Our conference lead is down to 7 points with no games in hand (NJ and Buf have both played 45 games); our division lead is still OK, 10 pts with no games in hand (Mon has also played 45 games.)

As much as the optimist in me wants to say no problem, it'll get better, Lindy will turn it around, the realist in me (that nagging Buffalo sports fan voice in my head that is waiting for our hearts to be ripped out again) keeps saying look out, this is different, here comes the stumble....

God, sometimes I hate being a Buffalo fan. Too many years of "almost," "bad refs," "so close" "wait till next year" - all those bad Buffalo sports memories and karma are ingrained into my soul and they drive me crazy as I try to enjoy this team and their regular season run. :censored:

You need to tell the Buffalo sports fan in you that it's not being rational. We had worse stretches last year, and a very similar team and turned things around just fine. Would you rather the Sabres stumble now or in April?

  2. That...or the rest of the league has now finally figured out how to slow down our offense. Belak called our team out as a bunch of pu$$ies who can be muscled around, and so far we are not responding well.

That's the same thing everyone was saying at the end of our road trip out West last year. They will snap out of it.

  3. Thank God it's January and not April

Exactly. Everyone needs to keep a deep breath and relax. As I've said before and I'm sure I will have to say a few more times. It's an 82 game season. There are going to be ups and downs. We're on a down right now. The important part is to make the ups last longer than the downs.

  4. i heard that guy. he also dropped an "f bomb" during the first period. I heard miller use the f word too when he misplayed a puck behind the net. There's a renegade live mic somewhere. maybe razyor doesn't have his off and its pointing out? who knows.

The sabres have had one good stretch in the 2nd period. luckily they scored twice. Unfortunately, its tied at 2 after 2. This game has the feel of either an OT thriller or yet another game hwere we come out dead tired in the 3rd and the opposition slowly takes the game from us. Hopefully we'll go the OT winner route!

How about we score a few in the third.

  5. 7pm

If thursday's game told us one thing, its that the Sabres hit a wall. When they play well, they played AWESOME... However, those spots were few and far between. One bright spot from thursday's game was the Power Play. Yes, they let a 5 on 3 get away, but they did convert 2 later in the game... The sabres need to use that PP momentum and gain some confidence. This is a team that's holding onto the 8 spot right now... This is a team that will probably remember that 7-1 (i think?) thrashing we gave them a couple months ago. The sabres will have to play mentally strong and use the "underdog" roll. That's Lindy's job though. I'd like for tonight to be the beginning of another string of victories leading up to the all star break.

They didn't seem to remember the 7-1 game the last time the two teams met.

  6. 2 thoughts.

    1. It was really obvious that the Sabres were playing their 2nd game in 2 nights.

    2. I agree with everyone that Marty played a good 50 minutes. But late in the game when his team needed him, he was not there. Turn the pressure up, and he disappears.

  7. that was an awful call on the trip to kubina, but no worse than briere throwing himself in to the crease earlier in the game

you guys have to start seeing it both ways - this game is not being officated in either teams' favor. i'm sure nobody noticed the quick hook that Hecht got away with about 20 seconds after the Kubina tripping call

And what about when Kotalik got tripped after finishing his check?

Max's hit was technically interference, but how often does that get called when they are that close to the puck?

  8. Might be the understatement of the night. Who says Canadian teams don't get more calls at home? ;)

That was a typical Marty performance, and IMO, the main reason that his career potential is in that nether region between starters and backups - he manages to look solid and shaky in the same game.

Tonight's game reminds me of why he never took control of the Sabres' goaltending situation after Dom left - too many games where he would stop 27, 28, 29 shots, let in two that weren't his fault and one absolute killer-bad goal. Main difference now is we win those games 4-3, whereas earlier we would lose those games 3-2...

I don't mind soft goals, they happen. It's just the timing of Marty's soft goals. Toronto was beat tonight, they looked out of it. Marty lets that one in, and they came back to life for the last 5 minutes.

  9. I agree. The refs have been brutal tonight. Glad we got the win tonight. Marty was great for us tonight.

Marty looked very good at times, but that third goal is very typical of him. Letting in one he should have had on a crucial situation. One of the main reasons I have never been a big fan of his.
