  1. Good call. That might make trading him more difficult unless someone really wants him.
  2. Ah. Then that makes things more interesting. Because in 2021 you have to protect Dahlin and Montour. The question then is, do you want Risto to be your third protected defender? If not, then you have to trade him by next summer.
  3. Isn't Dahlin automatically protected because next summer he'll only have played 2 years pro?
  4. To me, the biggest argument in favor of keeping Risto is that the Sabres have FOUR UFA defensemen on the roster for this coming season: Bogo, Scandella, Hunwick, and Nelson. If the Sabres let all of those guys walk it frees up 12.2 million in cap space and as many as four defensive roster spots. Our defense next July could be Dahlin, Risto, Montour, and McCabe. Without Risto the cap space ends up being 17.6 million. I think that's where the argument for moving him comes in. But I might be inclined to wait until next summer to do it.
  5. You gotta commit at some point and see where things go.
  6. That little extra move by Pastrnak to get Binnington all the way down and out was dirty.
  7. I don't think it's that complicated. We want players traded because a. what other solution is there to the team being bad? and b. impatience. No fan wants to admit that a valid part of the solution to their team's problems is time.
  8. Oh man, St. Louis is screwed now.
  9. I don't think the fans pushed him out. The team did.
  10. The dark rye is almost too easy to drink
  11. Bounty hunters, we don't need their scum.
  12. A timely leak to send fans descending into panic for the weekend ?
  13. I would never! To do so would require: 1. Putting down my 5.75oz cup of wine 2. Elevating my heart rate enough to pump blood to my extremities 3. Disrupting the family friendly atmosphere These are, of course, cardinal sins for any Sabres fan and would result in a lifetime ban from the arena.
  14. Conversely, this would never happen at a Sabres game because you would already have been thrown out for talking too loudly.
  15. I agree with you. The Sabres have nothing to lose by allowing Nylander to continue to develop. He's got two years left on his ELC. So that's how much time he has left in this org to make the jump.
  16. I hope he plays. He's a goddamn legend.
  17. I'm just going to say it: I'm fine with giving up defensive depth for forward talent. Being able to clear the zone doesn't mean anything if you can't do anything with the puck outside your own blue line. I'd rather have a forward corps that is dangerous enough to open up the ice for our mediocre defense, even if it's just guys sneaking behind the defense on hail mary stretch passes. How many chances did other teams have against us this past season picking up outlet passes in the neutral zone because our forward corps weren't a threat outside of the Eichel line? TEAM defense can improve even if we suffer a loss at the defensive position.
  18. I'm willing to beat this horse too, mostly because I think the evidence is clear that Sam needs to be on his own line driving production. I'm envisioning a scenario where he and Mitts basically rotate in and out depending on who is having the better night. Center by committee is better than relegating Sam to the wing. Either way, he needs his own line.

  20. Agreed. If they're going to drink wine and not cheer then they might as well get their money's worth.
