  1. Jamestown being anywhere but the bottom is funny. That place is just a pit of drugs. They just had to issue a public health warning and the captain literally said "if you're going to do heroin just don't do this kind of heroin" because there was a bad strain of it going around making people overdose.

I was thinking more along hockey lines. Erie has the Otters and McDavid. Jamestown has a beautiful arena and some kind of junior team. Olean has two men's leagues, including a beginners league. Bradford has men's pickup, but there's often no one to play goal. Turtlepoint has Busty Heart. I hope that clears things up.

  2. Potato becoming Borscht and the ensuing photo of borscht has me wanting, uh, borscht. I've never had it. I love beets. Is this a soup someone who has trouble heating up pizza could make? Any good recipes? That's a dollop of sour cream on top, right? It's a beautiful presentation.

  3. Firing Nolan wouldn't be for the sake of change... It'd be for the sake of the franchise. There's a clear divide between GM and coach right now. Nolan's vision and strategy simply don't fit what this team is doing. The youth movement next season with require that the team be led by rooks/young players and Nolan seems to have no clue how to manage that. He's not our guy.

Not to mention you can't try to line a guy up and then retain the current coach if you fail...

So the rationale for Murray buying into Nolan was that Nolan would be a bad fit and a terrible coach and would secure the tank and then be fired after one season?

  4. I know where he lives (Nia. County).  He's more on the level of Vogl--and maybe he's even a little bit better.  It's a shame he's "down there."

What's the difference where he is? He's doing the work and doing it well. You read online. You don't have to slum yourself down to the southern tier to buy the Times Herald from a machine.

And...... Fun times.... With a curling tournament

Annnnnd... we're done. No, Olean's nice. It's where people from Bradford go to live it up.

  5. Sneak peak: Crosby led the team in scoring of course, and a defenseman, Sergei Gonchar, was second with 57 points. Mark Recchi, who was traded at the deadline, was one point back of Gonchar. John LeClair yada yada yada. Gonchar and Ryan Whitney had the most ice time per game among defensemen. Mario Lemieux played 26 games before retiring for good in the midst of more health problems, an irregular heartbeat. Marc-Andre Fleury played 50 games.

  6. Leopold dealt after 11 yr old daughter's letter

Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen tweeted out a photo of the letter and wrote, "It isn't always just about business..."

I hate to question a cute story, but why is the Columbus GM trying to take credit when he hadn't seen the letter before the deal was done?

  7. I hope that doesn't happen because I'd like to see Neuvirth back here.

Listen to his parting comments in context. Nothing there that would prevent him from coming back.

Yes, Harrington led him down the garden path. He asked Neuvirth what he thought about comments in the media about the Sabres tanking. I didn't take his comments as an indictment of the organeyezation — I don't know who I am anymore.

  8. Of course this isn't really a blockbuster trade, but I don't really get WHY NYI made this deal, and it made me suspicious that they know something we don't about Johnson. Then I remembered that their GM is Garth Snow.

I've been trying to figure out the Isles' angle as well. Johnson has been a disappointment, but he's been coming on. How much of an upgrade is Neuvirth? I read that Capuano, the Isles coach, has talked about building in some rest for Halak down the stretch. I think the unknown variable is some concern on the Island that Halak is not going to hold up.

  9. Methinks a lot of folks are stuck in Regier Time. GMTM is more pragmatic and less philosophical. He gives zero about the technicality of "winning trades." He set out a few weeks ago to accelerate the rebuild and the tank at the same time. Tricky. He pulled it off, but he gave up a lot in the Winnipeg trade and didn't receive quite the haul he might have today. Who cares? A valuable piece in Myers went out the door, valuable pieces in Kane and Bogosian came back, along with a greater chance of McEichel. Take the rest of the trash to the curb. It's not even close, really.
