Worst part about salads IMO. I can eat a bowl of leafy greens and I'll be hungry in two hours.
True, true. I eat a salad daily consisting of 3oz by weight each of spinach, carrots, and broccoli. Fills a 2 quart bowl but doesn't fill me up for long. The trick I've found is to eat a small portion of something relatively healthy shortly afterwards, like a dozen triscuits or a spoonful of peanut butter. The PB does an amazing job of keeping the hunger away for a couple hours.

Supremely jealous! Watch out for salt in the corners - that ###### is slick!
We had some pretty heavy rain last week so the salt is largely gone. This time of year, I stick to the main roads where I can anyways. Too much crap on the back roads.

if i didn't work 30+ miles from home, i'd do that too. as it is though, i bring my bike down here and use it to get around our campus. i also take longer lunches in the spring/fall to take a nice ride around the area. great way to lose weight too!
Oh, I'm talking abuot the lazy-bike, er, motorbike this time. :) I do live 30 miles from work in a pretty hilly area. I've entertained thoughts of riding the bicycle to work, but there's just no way it's feasible for me right now unless I'm prepared to get into much better shape *and* leave the house at 6am.

Riding the bike to work and lunch in January is awesome. I'm going to ride at least one day each month this year, I can feel it.

Love Old Bay, but I just don't like cooked salmon.
As for the sake, what kind was it? For F*ck's sake, or for goodness sake? Both are good, but I prefer the former.
The only thing in English on the bottle is Kitaya, so we'll go with the former.

Last night: Seared Salmon with Old Bay seasoning, spinach salad with Japanese vinaigrette, and some sake. If I had planned ahead, I have wasabi powder and soy sauce, I bet I could have done something more Japanese than Old Bay for the salmon.
Today I'm working for awhile, so I probably won't make anything special. I do need to eat up some sweet potatoes and a salad tonight so that's probably dinner right there.

My Sabres playoff beard. I started it January 3rd. I'm not shaving it until the boys win three in a row, climb to 8th in the standings, or I feel like it. :)

- Swapped the summer tires onto the car. I'm hosed if it snows, but at least I'm not on the donut any more.
- Going out with a few people tonight for Chinese or Thai food and then some drinks.
- Cat checked out fine at the vet this morning.
- There's a thread in which chz is talking about nipple clamps.

Every time I read the topic this tune pops into my head,

You have a working computer at the bottom of a pond?
LOL. Maybe it's one of those rugged Verizon smart phones.
Amen. Not sure if it was me who said that or if I repeated it, but it's the truth. Venting helps the pressure escape.
Heh, that reminds me of a friend's answering machine message in his dorm room. "You've reached the high-pressure containment lab at the University at Buffalo. If you'd like to leave a message for Ray, please do so after the beep.". I guess my complaint is I dialed it three or four times before I figured it out.

Slid my pretty, pretty car into a guard rail in the snow on Friday night. Estimate is $5300 (although insurance is paying it). The main complaint is I haven't heard much from the insurance company since Monday, and I can't drive around on the donut spare all the time. I busted the rim with the snow tire on it, so I either have to do 3 snows + donut, 3 snows + 1 summer time, or all 4 summer tires (which two of the rims are beat up on as well). I think the summers are 'close enough' in height (1.6mm different), but that's right at the limit Subaru recommends (2/32").
Not to mention two weeks ago my cat was sick and I had to take him to the emergency vet. I was a few hours from being -1 cat. :(

Some basic barley I made yesterday for lunch (pearled barley and stock simmered until the liquid is all soaked up). First time making it, it's a little bland as is, but I can see it being a good base for some more interesting dishes. Similar texture to risotto, but a bit more chewy.
Finished up some spicy pork meatballs the other day, those will be made again.

Jefferson Reserve would be near the top of my list. It is about 90 proof so shouldn't be too hot to enjoy neat. Four roses small batch is a pretty intense bourbon with alot of complexity to it. It isn't for everyone though. I could probably say the same about Elijiah Craig. Sazerac Rye is absolutely delicious stuff and would also be on my list. Blanton's is a fantastic pour as well. Rittenhouse rye has a stellar rep. I've never had it though. That is more than 3 but of the ones on this list that I've had before, those are among my tops.
If it were *ME* doing the flight I would choose differently from what I gave you above. I would go for three whiskeys that I haven't had before. My choices would be, Rittenhouse rye, Angel's Envy, and either Noah's Mill or Black Maple Hill. But only because I haven't had those products before.
Cool, thanks for the tips. I had a really strong bottle awhile back... Booker's. That bottle was 126 proof, tough to drink without some water.

So I'm going down to a place in Philly with a nice Bourbon/Whiskey menu. If you were going to pick *three* off this menu to try, what would they be?

I used to drink a fair amount of Maker's Mark, Woodford Reserve, and have a bottle of Eagle Rare 17 right now, so don't go easy on me. :) I just don't follow what's up and coming much.

For those of you in central PA (and there are a few!), there's a great little Belgian restaurant in Carlisle with a ridiculous selection of beers and excellent food: http://www.cafebruges.com/ Had dinner there Sat. night and the bf, who is a huge fan of Belgian brews, was a happy man.
If you're ever down in Philly, check out Eulogy in the old city/society hill neighborhood. Great beer list there too.

Also, Beneluxx on South 3rd. Not as Belgian-focused as Eulogy, but some great beers there too.

Heard this on the radio Saturday night on the way home from a party. It's stuck there now, but at least it's a pretty good song.

I made the mistake of buying my wife a Neon once.
My 95 wasn't that bad. 108 thousand nearly trouble-free miles. Yes, I know I'm the only one that can say that.
So this will be post #991 for me. I have to think of something reasonably epic for #1000. :)

Subarus are reliable cars, and used models that are few years (greater than 2) shouldn't be too expensive. My friend bought a 6 year old Subaru, had about 70K miles, and ran just like it was new for 3 years, until big ol' Bambi decided to commit suicide about a month ago. Deer was big enough that the entire hood crumpled, and the frame got torqued to the point that the insurance company totaled the car. safety features all worked though. It was great with the snow, and it was the car I actually learned to drive manual with.
I'm on my second Subaru, the first had 194k I only had to replace the O2 sensor ($200) and one brake caliper ($60) other than wear and tear items. Absolutely loved that car. The new one only has 15k on it, so it doesn't count (but I love it too).

I've been moderately to severely overweight since I was about 10 years old. Three years ago I made a commitment to start living a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy food most of the time, in the correct portions, and exercising regularly. I was approaching 40 and had no doubt that I'd be very lucky to see 50 if I did not make major changes.
Well, this week I finally hit my goal weight! Three years ago I weighed an embarrassing 305 lbs, today I weigh 173. Total loss of 132 lbs. Went from 3x shirts to M's, from a 52" waist to 34". Doing my first half-marathon later this year.
Awesome CDX, you're putting me to shame. Almost two years ago I was 295, today I'm 230 (and have been for a year or so) thru mostly diet. I guess I'm actually going to have to continue working out to catch up (although I'd be exactly Miller-skinny at 173).

Dare I ask how the measuring was done?
It was carny college, Dept. of guess your age and weight.

Or just leave a trail of sponge candy to your front door, apparently.
I'm not sure if wasting perfectly good sponge candy is worth the trouble. :)

I'm just getting over something similar. It lasted a good two weeks and I spent 10 minutes every morning coughing up some nasty stuff. My wife the NP was sure I had walking pneumonia, but she could never hear it in my lungs. It was probably something viral and with that I usually prescribe myself heavy doses of high gravity beer.
I did that for the cold I had on New Years Eve, and it worked fantastically. Adding Daytime cold medicine and shots helps too.
Complaint: kinda sorta dating girl is now friend girl. Knew it was coming for the entire relationship, but doesn't make it suck that much less. Shrader, where does that chick hang out? ;)

Smoked one on New Years. I was drunk, but I remember being pleased haha
Week before Xmas, same thing. Bummed one or two from a friend up at a vacation house, so I don't know what they were. Sweet though, which would fit in with that friends tastes.
Cold outside though on Cayuga that night.
What are you eating (or drinking)?

I'd give it a shot. Baked, marinated Tofu is pretty good, I'd think that's not that far off from what we're talking about. I also make a pretty mean Chocolate Tofu Pie. you wouldn't know it has tofu in it, it ends up being like a less dense fudge. I suspect some here just revoked my man-card. But, as a self-respecting man myself, I couldn't care less for what someone else thinks is appropriate for me to eat. :)
