  1. Following Beane's example of bringing in guys that are going to be your key backups to just have on year to year deals, so that if you want to keep them you can work a new deal next year and if not they count towards the comp pick calculations. What's that? The NHL doesn't have comp picks*? 🤔 D'oh!!!!!!!!!!! * Except for the very rare 1st round draft pick that refuses to sign an ELC.
  2. Needs an extra day or 2 to decide if the extra money is worth swaping blue, white, and red for blue and gold.
  3. Per puckpedia, it's a 2 way deal this year and 1 way the next 2.
  4. Was looking at it from his perspective. Only reason to take this deal is if it is a 1-way deal. Which also gives the Sabres some protection should he be the 9th in the future. Not many teams are going to make a waiver claim on a guy that's barely going to be on their big club if they'd have to pay him an NHL salary to be in the AHL when he inevitably ends up the odd man out there too. (Because, lets face it, if a guy is the 9 in Buffalo (even after the season is rolling and guys are out injured) he isn't making many (any?) NHL defenses better except when they're injury racked.) And not saying he WON'T make the Sabres; actually as they now sit he has a very good chance of at least being the 7/8. Just saying that IF he doesn't make the SABRES, there isn't going to be a long list of GMs licking their chops looking to snag him.
  5. Addition by subtraction. Had to look at the title of the thread twice to make sure it wasn't the Sabres sending Chicago the 6th rounder. He should've been a very good addition and he was absolutely horrible.
  6. But might he be willing to waive the NTC now that the 'Nucks have their current goalie locked up LT and their "goalie of the future" breathing down his neck? Swap out UPL and whatever else it takes and take the small W.
  7. Figure it has to be a 1 way deal. He could've just signed the QO and had a bigger salary in the NHL (should he make the squad). Great deal from the Sabres perspective. He'll still be an RFA when this deal ends too.
  8. You watch a lot of 'Nucks games. Is Lankinen worth trading for? Or at least trying to trade for? Would he be an upgrade over Lyon?
  9. Can't have that. Pointing out they're getting outshot is too critical. Wonder if they'll still be willing to put the score up on the screen. Can't be too negative, ya know.
  10. And THIS is one of the things that's maddening about being a Sabres fan. They NEVER alter their plans on the fly. Going back to Regier at least. Hey we brought in Zubrus to help with the playoff run and then cut loose as we'll have Drury and possibly Briere in the fall and we don't need him as a 3C. Oh, Drury and Briere BOTH left so we have NO experienced true veteran centers on the roster. OK, well no point in making an offer to Zubrus. Hey, Bernard-Docker was just a cheap throw-in but he plays REALLY well with Power. That's niiiicccce. Doesn't change our minds about whether to keep him or not, but it's nice.
  11. And apparently he took the lesson from that and from beating the Sabres in '06 that having a good goalie doesn't guarantee you anything if you suffer serious injuries to your top players. So, don't bother getting a top goalie. 😞
  12. Again, when you realize that is EXACTLY what he had behind him the year he was a 4th liner on a SC winning squad, it makes sense that he doesn't see the need for a Hasek or a Miller backstopping the crew.
  13. It wasn't even $875k. It was $866k. But it might've been required to be a 1 way offer. (Not sure how many games he missed on IR and how many he missed simply because he was in the press box.) Still seems petty especially because he actually played really well when paired with Power via the eye test.
  14. 85 is exactly what this team looks like at present. They need to go into the off-season planning on putting together a team that can win 3 out of 5 games. (Not even quite that as other teams in the NHL are allowed to get loser points, the Sabres SHOULD be allowed to do that as well. Get 6 points every 5 games.) But they put together teams that MIGHT POSSIBLY if EVERYTHING, literally everything, GOES RIGHT get to about 95 points. At some point they have to realize that the '05-'06 Canes only happens once a generation and it usually ends like the '96 Panthers journey ends - getting frog stomped by the much better team at the end of it all. You're a day late. 😉
  15. Fack. If that's all they're going to do, just don't friggin' bother and HOPE that continuity and having a full year under Ruff's "system" gets them some extra points in the standings. And, yes, that's ALL they're gonna do. Used to absolutely love Canada Day. Now it just serves to remind us how far we're removed from the NHL.
  16. Buying another lottery ticket in net. ####ing hate even more that Carolina got lucky as #### in '06 injury wise and goaltending wise. Not only did that keep the Sabres out of the pantheon of champions; it convinced a certain GM that a kid and a has been/ never was can find magic and lead a team to great things. So it continues to keep the Sabres out of even being relevant for another year. ####, what was one of the FIRST things Kekalainen did when he took over in C-Bus - it was bring in Bobrovsky. (And yes, Bobrovsky was Russian for sieve while he was in Filly; but ALL goalies there face the curse of Pelle Lindbergh. It's one of the things that city is known for.) Why Santy Claus, why? Why are you taking our tree and replacing it with a picture of last year's one?
  17. So give Allvin an offer that blows his doors off and makes him go back to believing that the guy they gave the 5 year deal (his name escapes at the moment) and Silvos is the way to go. He wants to make sure Hughes stays a 'Nuck, right? Well, send him some pieces that makes that remotely plausible. Think outside the crayon box for once, Kevyn.
  18. True. But at some point when we wake up on July 1 we shouldn't have to hear Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe."
  19. Not giving Bernard-Docker a QO makes soooooooo much more sense now. 😉
  20. OR they figure that Lyon has a better chance of passing through waivers when Levi outplays him in TC than Reimer did. So, when one of UPL or Levi spit the bit they'll be able to get him back onto the parent club in October rather than having to wait for whoever took him off the waiver wire to send him through waivers themselves in November.
  21. Get Demko. Worry about extending him AFTER he's gotten you into the playoffs. Take a friggin' shot. Is that truly too much to ask for?
  22. Yes. He was "alright" for Detroit. Not actually good, but alright. The Sabres don't play defense well enough in front of their goalie to be making their addition in net Carter friggin' Hutton. Not heading into year 15 of an already 14 year drought. At least it's better than dropping real money on Jake Allen. Realize Allen is better; but not enough better to justify the significantly greater salary he'll likely get. Tell us ownership and management STILL don't mind missing the playoffs without telling us ownership and management still don't mind missing the playoffs.
  23. Cool. 😒 Lyon kept the Sabres out of the playoffs in '23 and he can repeat the feat in '26. 🤬 Lyon played lights out while Bobrovsky was out in '23. He's done pretty much nothing since. We can't say the Sabres don't have a type when looking to the outside for goaltending help.
  24. Is the answer because Bernard-Docker isn't?
  25. Thatcher Demko.
