Are the Sabres out of the running for the playoffs?
Taro T replied to inkman's topic in The Aud Club
2 comments more or less directly from Power's mouth. 1. He prefers getting more minutes as it keeps him focused in the game. He wants 25+ every night. 2. The toughest part of playing on the NHL is trying to get fully rested between the games. Playing every other night is a huge transition from 2 games every weekend. Expect he will hit that "rookie wall" but not convinced we'll notice. -
The uni itself w/ no logo was sharp. (Especially the blue. ) But that logo put it on the same plane as the Turdburger & the Gorton's Fisherman Clown unis.

Sweet. Gives him a pretty good edge on being #1 when player of the month gets chosen.

Am still hoping that w/ Power & Dahlin we end up w/ both Robinson AND Potvin. Dahlin was billed as generational and, though it took a while to show more than just glimpses of it, he might actually be. Power was never billed THAT highly. He merely steps in & dominates after a short acclimation period. He's the defenseman version of Quinn. And totally off on a tangent, when's the last time a team had a F & a D that were that young that ramped up their play that quickly? Honestly don't have an example immediately springing to mind. (Maybe Bourque & Pederson before the wrist surgery?)
-
The justification is & always has been that they don't know what the crazy bastage running onto the field is capable of doing so they try to subdue him with all due prejudice ASAP. (That they get a kick out of jacking some random schmuck is just a bonus. 😉)

Agree that it would be good to spend more draft capital on D. Not sure that the prospects/ extra F's will be moved to bolster the D. They have the top 3 slots nailed long term & there are prospects that are ~3 years out. Really expect we'll see a couple more Lyubushkin pickups to round out the bottom 3 slots & 7&8. Would leave them with Jokiharju, new guy, & Lyubushkin as the bottom 3 (in no particular order) and other new guy & Bryson as the 7 & 8. Expect it would take a lot of prospect capital to fill those 2 slots; probably more than Adams wants to part with. If he can find a deal or 2 to do so, would be great w/ it. Just not expecting it.

Was actually referring to the earlier version of Edmonton's we'll run w/ kids & pretty much just kids here, there, & everywhere (well, except for Ryan Smyth) after Pronger's wife decided she couldn't handle the Albertan prairie any longer. The big issue there was pretty much none of the non-1st round kids were worth anything & even some of the 1st rounders were either busts (Yakopov) or VERY slow to develop (Gagner). Throw in Adams-level goaltending, few highly priced D prospects, along w/ Krueger arguably being the best coach of that era & it was a recipe to get another crack at 1st overall, & another, & another, &, well you get the picture.

Theoretically, the Sabres approach should be more sustainable because the kids should reach their peak performance sooner as they're learning to play at the NHL level in the roles they'll fill LT sooner and they should have more years at that level before eventually tailing off. Again, theoretically it should work, but the only real example of putting that into practice (Edmonton) has failed at it spectacularly for well over a decade & only in the last 3 or so years have they finally been relevant. And even then, they aren't true leading contenders to be champions. Of course, Adams seems to have brighter people working for him. And it might not be the concept that's flawed but rather the execution. We'd better hope that's the case, because Adams isn't going anywhere any time soon.

When they made the 1st pitch back to a teammate started to say to the wife "it would be so cool if they fumble & the Raiders score" and only had a chance to say "it would be so" before the Raider had the ball & was on his way.
-
He has seemed to play well. Wonder if he really is playing well or if it's just the expectations for what you get out of a waiver pickup are so low he seems better than he is. Not a surprise the Avs moved on from him. 1st rounders aren't often allowed to be 4th liners for the team that drafted them because even though they can be productive there they're viewed as "busts." Not sure why Minny gave up on him. Anybody here watch their games?

Was just coming here to post this. What a fabulous ending. So happy to see that the greatest cheating coach ever wasn't smart enough to have his players realize they did NOT absolutely need to score on that play. And, the Raiders had tied the game on a catch that very likely was out of bounds. Awesome.

Good for them. Pretty sure they get a cookie to go along w/ the L they also get for that.

True. But that complaint is an awful lot like when people were complaining about the Bills not winning close games. They're not going to intentionally stop scoring so they can say they won a game 3-2. -
You sure about that? Rewatch the portion of the game it actually snowed.
-
Really? Hadn't seen that anywhere. Certainly not in this thread. Thanks for the timely info.
-
And interestingly last night, all 3 teams each won by 3 points.
-
Yes. On the face off to start a quarter & after a goal only the 2 players facing off can be in the neutral zone initially. The other 4 runners from each team have to be outside the restraining lines. When substituting, the player coming off the field needs to be in that box in front of his bench before the replacing player can enter play (i.e., leave that box). Attacking players cannot be in the goal crease before the ball is in the net. If any part of their body is touching the crease itself or the line defining it prior to the ball crossing the goal line the goal will be waved off. And, teams have 8 seconds to get the ball over the midfield line. Once the ball is over it the team can't bring it back to their side of the field. No over & back allowed, similar to basketball.

Didn't know the Amerks Kin-ig-hit Hawks came back against Albany. They were down at the half. Thanks.
-
And had they gotten even 3 points in that situation when in scoring range down in Sunstroke City they'd be 12-2.
-
But they got Husso, Copp, & 2 other guys people heard of. 😉

Been too busy to watch much Amerks last month or 2. What are your thoughts on Kozak? When drafted he seemed to have a shot at being an instigator/ 4th liner. Think he can get there or is he a shorter Murray? -
And it needs to be said in all 3 GDTs. 1st time EVER Bandits, Bills, & Sabres all won on the same night.
-
Absolutely one could argue that. And they could argue that he lucked into Thompson & Dahlin & Cozens & Peterka & Quinn panning out. Just like it was argued early in his NHL & Sabres career that Hasek lucked into the puck ALWAYS hitting him. At some point luck ain't luck. It's actually skill.
