Sabres' Afinogenov misses practice because of sore groin

Afinogenov expected to play Tuesday

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Buffalo Sabres forward Maxim Afinogenov missed practice Monday because of a sore groin, but is expected to play in Buffalo's game at New Jersey on Tuesday.

Coach Lindy Ruff said Afinogenov was held out as a precaution, giving him an extra day off while the Sabres are in the midst of playing eight games in 16 days. Afinogenov ranks third on the team and is tied for 18th in the NHL with 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists).

Defenseman Teppo Numminen is still considered day-to-day after breaking his toe while blocking a shot in a 3-1 loss at Florida on Thursday. Numminen did not play in a 3-2 shootout win at Montreal on Saturday.

The Eastern Conference-leading Sabres (25-5-1-1) practiced at home before wrapping up a five-game road swing against the Devils.
