Some of us got caught up on the moment as the Sabres finally resembled an NHL with camaraderie, toughness and sticking up for one another. It was difficult to figure out why as they only added a few new players so Geertsen was attributed as having an impact. Clearly, it’s something else. Hard to say if it was the addition of Doan and Kesselring (who hadn’t played when this revelation occurred) or something we as fans aren’t privy to. This years team is drastically different. Maybe removing guys who went above and beyond to avoid team toughness exercises, like Peterka. Hard to say exactly what did it but things are different now. That being said, a week from now they’ll probably get bullied by another team and we all tuck our tails between our legs. Dalton Smith, that's why. Quote

Yeah it would be nice if Kevyn could find a top 9 forward like a Tkachuk or Tom Wilson that could play top 6 minutes and be a dominating, intimidating force. Those guys don’t grow on trees. Don’t get me wrong, Adams has avoided the forest (with some minor improvements in drafting recently) and the Peterka trade. Maybe Doan is that guy. Could use another 3-4 of him on the team. Tuch could be that guy but doesn’t get dirty enough for a man his size. Quote

Perhaps if Geertsen had gotten into a fight in one of the Sabres' losses they would have won instead> Dunne is the only "dress vs. tough teams" guy they would need on the roster because of all the other folks listed up thread. For the record. DesLauriers skated 6:24 in that PHI-MTL game. DesLauriers is 34 years old, has played almost 800 NHL games, and although he's slower now -- he still good enough speed to get around the ice and make tons of hits (now over 2000 in his career). And when DLo wants to go no one laughs at him. He's an NHL player (not a great one, but still effective in small doses). Geertsen is a bottom six AHLer. I'm not going to argue the position could use an upgrade, I'm just arguing the philosophical stance and idea of having the tough guy and what it can bring, 8 hours ago, bg17 said: It’s not my assertion. It’s merely a data point. How many more, if any, games of similar “success” would you require before considering a different approach? Well they lost to a garbage team without him in the line up too so it simply proves they are quite capable of losing no matter who is in the line up. Quote
