wudden
Hey Guys - I thought I'd come here for some advice... I'm throwing a stag for my friend who's getting married this July. This is my first time throwing a stag so I'm learning as i go. I'm trying to figure out what to buy for door prizes/raffle type stuff... I got some great deals at Kohls on some Sabres stuff thanks to a thread here with the heads up (slug jersey, retro hoodie), Bills earwarmers, a couple t-shirts, and a tailgating beanbag toss game... Problem is, Ive already spent like $150 but I want to have about 30 prizes. Does anyone have any ideas for some good, cheap prizes that arent cheezy and/or crappy? Thanks in advance!! Jake Every stag I've been to usually has either Sabre/ Bills collectibles or alcohol baskets. Best thing for stag is various gambling events and then you can guilt the winner into donating most of his winnings back to the groom. They win a prize and they're out the door with it. You win money and the groom makes out better,
The_Swannie_House
Here are some pointers: -Have other groomsmen bring a couple of bottles or prizes...its reasonable to ask them to bring two things -Setup a poker table (hold em) as a money game. Pull 1-2 dollars from every ante as a "gift" to the groom -Talk to anyone you know who is associated with a bar...they can and usually do donate cool freebee stuff OH I ALMOST FORGOT -A Honary "Jelly of the Month" 1- year membership -Donation cards for the "Human Fund"

carpandean
Can't help much on prizes. For my brother's bachelor party, I rented a bus (Greyhound size with bathroom, DVD player and multiple screens) and we took a trip to the "Canadian ballet". I had a BBQ first for those who didn't want to go up North. It worked out really well, but did cost me an arm and a leg (I charged a fee, but I overestimated the number of guys from his department who would go to Canada with us because of a conflict that I didn't know about). For another friend's party, his brother rented a smaller limo-bus for the same type of trip. Started with food and drinks at a bar, then a stop at the casino and finally ended at Sundowners. Good fun and I think he made out a little better on cost.

Jake The prizes sound nice, but in addition, I highly recommend the ballet or some other form of debauchery. You won't be sorry... that is, unless someone starts feeling their oats at the border crossing. Good luck!
ROC Sabres
Am I that much older....strippers/dancers???? 50/50 raffles for private dances...c'mon you guys. Agreed. Didn't bother to check how old you are but thats pretty much the standard? Strippers, booze and humility.

Jake On the prize thing--that's what you asked about, right?--you shouldn't be shouldering the burden alone. Get the other groomsmen to pitch in on that. As for what's not cheesy, but still cheap? If you want 30 prizes at lower prices, some of them will end up being cheesy. Might be better to go with fewer, but better quality. A few lower-cost options, from what I've seen lately: Gift certificate for a growler from Pearl Street or from that new beer shop on Elmwood; movie passes; Delta Sonic stuff; gift certificate for a cooking class (the guys with girlfriends seem to gobble those up); some $15-$20 cigars; bottles of decent liquor; i-Tunes cards. As mentioned above, cards and dancers can be great fundraisers...
