  1. I LOVE those two drafts. I'm not as sold on the last two but Pysyk seems like a lock to be a good NHL player (even if he's never a superstar) and Armia is the most talented player we've drafted since Vanek (we'll see how that translate to North America though). Hopefully the Sabres put their 2 Firsts and 2 Seconds to good use this June and we'll be set up for years.
  2. The two players could not be more different. Armia is all finesse, Kassian is all size and strength.
  3. Stop reading my thoughts, D! I was thinking about this just now as well. If the Sabres decide to take a defenseman with their first pick, it won't be the end of the world now. Griffin Reinhardt is a big defenseman and Mark Pysyk's teammate in Edmonton. We could pick him up. Or if there's a miracle and Filip Forsberg is there for us, we can take him as a LW too. I'd love to pick up Henrik Samuelsson with the late 1st round pick.
  4. Hockey's Future had him as a 7.5 -- a borderline no.1 center if he pans out. That's not "elite" as in "top 5-10 in the league" but it might be good enough.
  5. Totally agree with Rob's point there. (I'm listening too.) Guys like Kaleta and Tropp showed up and started hitting immediately. Kassian really didn't as a Sabre or as an Amerk. He still could (we saw flashes) but maybe he's more legend than real deal. Great trade if that turns out to be the case. Wonder if they're still selling BADASSIAN shirts at the Walden Galleria.
  6. You can say that again. Oh, you did. :P I like everything about Hodgson. If we'd traded Roy for him, I'd be doing a cartwheel right now. I guess I'm just worried because the Sabres weren't overly tough to begin with. And now what? I'm just hoping this is going to validate my creepy man crush on Marcus Foligno.
  7. Yes, we're smaller. That said, we can definitely still trade Roy this summer. If we have Hodgsen, Ennis, and Adam as our top 3 centers, why do we need Roy? We can deal him for some toughness. (I'm still dreaming about the Roy for Ryan Clowe deal someone around here was talking about a few weeks back.) This trade really depends on what Marcus Foligno turns into. If he's the power forward we want him to be, we're OK. If not, we're in a lot of trouble with toughness. Kaleta and Tropp are tough but not big. It's not clear to me what McNabb and Foligno can do long term. Myers?
  8. This is definitely my hope, especially after watching some highlights on YouTube.
  9. That doesn't mean much though. After the initial handful of picks in the first round, the draft is a crapshoot, even in the first round. Kyle Beach was picked right before Myers and he's struggling away in the AHL right now.
  10. I'm really hoping this trade means the Sabres are totally sold on Marcus Foligno's NHL future. If not, we might be the softest team in the league.
  11. Darcy doesn't know what ASAP means.
  12. Definitely. For once, we might be able to trade a guy when his stock is high. Unfortunately, if he ever scores six goals in five games again (probably in his next contract year), Darcy will take it as a sign that he's "untouchable" in trade talks. I don't really care what the other teams do. I just want the Sabres to lose their lazy underachievers. We're never going to get anywhere waiting for Stafford to lead us there.
  13. Are we really supposed to never make a trade again because it might blow up in our face?
  14. The only negative thing I could say about it is that we moved those players too late. Stafford clearly should have been moved earlier in 2011 when his value was at an all-time high. Roy should have been moved earlier than that. Regier overvalues his own players. We never trade anyone when their value is highest. If he were an investor, his strategy would be "Sell Low, Buy High" and he'd be broke. I think the fans have come to terms with the fact that the (then promising) core we were left with after Black Sunday isn't going to succeed. I wish our GM could do the same. Based on how the playoffs went, wasn't he exactly right? That team *wasn't* built to win in the playoffs. We overpowered a team that wasn't close to us in talent (Islanders), struggled against the Rangers, and then were absolutely no match for Ottawa. If anything, PA was one of the few people thinking clearly when he watched that 2007 team.
  15. I'm trying to remember a Sabres player who made dump and chase look so effective or who was harder to take off the puck once he had it. Kassian is making a lot of guys look bad.
  16. Luke Adam is a mystery to me. The team seemed great when he was centering Vanek and Pominville. Seeing as how we totally suck now, why can't we put him back there and see how it works? It's completely ridiculous that we have a 26 year old AHLer centering our two best players. (It also says something about how little faith Ruff has in Roy that he'll do anything to keep he and Vanek apart now.) What do the Sabres do at center if they trade Roy? I don't care. I know we're never winning a Stanley Cup with floaters like Roy and Stafford on the roster. If we can clear them out and add to the new core (led by Myers, Kassian, etc.), that's a big win for our franchise.
  17. Please, please, please let this be true.
  18. There really isn't any "why"; you're just attracted to what you're attracted to. Some guys like blonds and some guys like brunettes, but if you asked either guy to explain WHY that is, it pretty much comes down to "that's what I like." At some point, as you get older, you figure out that you like new girls because they remind you of girls you used to know. Part of that is you having a "type" and the other part is you trying to replace something you used to have. As for breasts, it has way more to do with shape than size.
  19. Kassian makes a lot of the older guys look bad. Another reason to make a trade soon is to clear out some of the veteran "passengers" before they have a chance to influence the young guys who play like they give a crap (i.e. Kassian, McNabb, etc.). Do you really want Roy and Stafford showing these guys the ropes in the NHL? No thanks.
  20. I wouldn't put Ennis in there. Though since Roy's "suck" is contagious, he'll probably be infected and sucking soon too. Everyone's goal streaks last season came with Roy on the shelf. Funny thing, that.
