Meaning we should find out this summer how effective Pegula really is as an owner. His money couldn't bring in Brad Richards or Zach Parise. If we can't even use it to keep the stars that we have, what good is it?

The Blackhawks are the best team in the league right now. They're doing just fine. As for the cap, we'll see where we're at this summer (obviously they won't be negotiating over the next couple months). Leopold and Regehr are gone after this year and I assume they're going to buy out Leino.

They had me wondering for a while tonight though.

He did have three points tonight, and he's up to 9 in 11 games. I'm probably with you though in that I'm starting to lose faith that he can be a part of a contender long term. I'd be fine with them moving him for someone else.

One way or another, if they can't get a contract extension for Vanek done, it'll be a total disgrace. We've already failed to land the top free agents, so what's the point of Pegula's money if we can't even keep the stars we have?

Yeah, when Montreal went up 4-2 you had to figure they'd start coasting. Notable that three of our four wins this year are direct results of Vanek deciding to take the game over.

He's one of their best scorers of all time. Currently 6th overall in franchise history and just 12 goals away from 5th.

He also gets taken off the puck very easily. It's noticeable that many of his goals come on the rush. He hasn't been great at cycling the puck this year.

Well, they can but they seem to think the problem is anything other than Ruff (forever). I wouldn't be shocked if Myers is gone before Ruff is.

Wait, hang on, the room is spinning. Vanek is in the "players we like" category? This has to be a first. Overpaid Vanek? Lazy Vanek? Vanek who sucks in the playoffs because he scored 5 goals in 7 games against the Flyers but they were all in the wrong period? Vanek who also sucks in the playoffs because he scored 2 goals in 3 games against the Bruins but stopped playing when they broke his ankle? Vanek the bad leader? Must be a temporary thing. Don't worry, Tom, the fans will be back to hating you as soon as you fail to score a couple games in a row.

Now they have to hope that he doesn't go crazy and actually show up. But don't worry, Islanders, it's not like Tim Thomas would ever do anything silly.

I tried to dream up a trade for Myers that could work and that I might agree to. Pretty much all I could come up with was Myers for some other team's top prospect and a 1st round pick. Would the Capitals trade Filip Forsberg and a 1st round pick to get Myers? Maybe. Forsberg and the pick could amount to absolutely nothing while Myers has already shown that he can dominate in the NHL (and could probably regain that ability). I liked Forsberg a lot last summer so he'd be awesome to add to the young mix. That said, right now they're on track to draft in the top 3 so I doubt they're in a hurry to move that pick. If they were just struggling a little, it'd be a lot more doable for them. (They might also be really high on Forsberg and consider moving him to be nuts.) And that's all I've got.

A rebounded Myers might be more useful to our team than anyone (ie. anyone we could realistically get). I'm not exaggerating when I say that the 2009-2010 Tyler Myers might be enough to make us above average. He was that good and he made everyone else better. That's the problem with trading Myers. Nothing we could get is as useful as just turning him around. So if we have to change coaches to get him going, I'm cool with that.

The Islanders just acquired Tim Thomas from the Bruins for a 2nd round pick. Oh, Islanders. :rolleyes: :doh:
