  1. One of my favorite things about the bike is the outdoor exploration.  Riding new roads, seeing sites, covering distances.

No doubt. Biking around here is pretty limited but a real bike gives a better workout than a stationary. Getting out on a regular bike is great, I envy the people of Minneapolis.

I haven't been to Boca in years and I bet it's not that great for cycling, but Fort Worth wasn't particularly bike friendly when I started riding 8 years ago.

We've made big strides, but most people still don't think of the city as bike friendly.  But that's part of the exploration thing bc mentioned.  Fort Worth has several barriers (natural and man-made) that present challenges to cyclists, namely the freeways/tollways, the train tracks and the river, but with a little imaginative exploring and word of mouth I've found a lot of great workarounds.  Riding a bike teaches you the wormholes in the fabric of your city and it's pretty great understanding your local area to that level (and helps when you want to drive around a traffic jam).

And if riding on relatively busy roads is your only option, I found that CommuteOrlando has a wealth of resources for learning how to ride in traffic.  They have a lot of tutorials for maneuvering in traffic like this one.

  2. Risto - Pysyk

    McCabe - Bogo

    Gorges - Franson

Bylsma wasn't happy how the 1st D line cleared the zone, Look for Gorges to be demoted.

    These pairings give me wood.

    I doubt that happens

    What about

    Risto - McCabe

    Pysyk - Bogo

    Gorges - Franson

    ?

I know there's the McCable-Pysyk chemistry, but I'd like to see how McCabe reacts to the responsibility.  He's being playing well for the most part.  Give him a few games there and see how he handles it.

  3. I'm not ready to write DD off just yet.  The team is starting to function offensively, and when Pysser gets back it'll give us another puck moving, defensively responsible, butt-goal-scoring defenseman.  I'm actually starting to get excited about the team again.  Playoffs are probably out of the question, but if they can play above .500 for the rest of the year I'll be a happy camper.

And regardless of the lack of production from the vets, I think they are producing a lot in the locker room with the kids, instilling work ethic, building the team, showing the kids how the game is played right.

  4. No, it's good.  It's been discussed in the Roster thread.

Has there been an update on McCabe?  He missed the last 8 minutes of the last game with a LBI.

If Pysser is replacing McCabe, it's only a modest upgrade at best.  If he nudges Weber/Coco to the bench, it's a huge step up for our defense.

Sounds like McCabe is okay, so this could be huge for the good guys.

David Bowie made this music video in February, 1969, when he was in his early 20s. He made this as part of a promotional film. The film went nowhere but he did sign with Mercury Records later that year and recorded the more familiar arrangement of the song that same year.

    This is our last dance.
    This is our last dance.
    This is ourselves.

I posted this video on my FB feed last month. I think this is the singularly greatest rock and roll song ever. It features two of the best male vocalists in rock history in a brief but fruitful partnership, and carries an energy that's hard to resist.

  6. What?!

Oh, man. And so soon after releasing some really interesting material.

He recorded it knowing that he was dying.

    It was liver cancer.

The best drugs will do that to you.  I don't mean that as an indictment of his choices; he is what he was and without all the weirdness that altered states of consciousness he wouldn't have ever been that I suspect.  I thank you, Mr. Bowie, for touching so many souls with such fine music.

Looking at all the stuff people are posting online today, it's amazing to think how many of Ziggy Stardust's songs became rock anthems.

  7. So far this counting calories and riding the bike a bit seems to be working.  Historically the first week I start a diet is pretty successful and this week was no exception - lost 4 lb.  And I got in 25 miles on my "fast" bike tonight.

My bike (with me in the background).  I took a picture with the bike leaned up against one of the glass towers downtown.
