  1. Gonna try to analyze this, seen from my point of view.

    Look,

4 seasons ago, i believed Robin Lehner would become something extraordinary, young and very spicy, Robin Lehner has quite a temper as a goalie.

He played some really good games in Ottawa, 5 games with percentage of 93,5 and the word spread like an fire in Sweden, almost noone knew about Robin Lehner before, because he left Sweden for OHL, before even playing a game in SHL.

After that, his Career took a swing, high swing, but about the same time his injuries started, and has been following him like a black sheep ever since, this is the downside with Robin Lehner, i dont know if its his playstyle or what that is the reason.

If Robin Lehner gets to be free of injuries, he will provide, no doubt. I would LOVE seeing Robin Lehner / Linus Ullmark, 2 special goalies indeed with one hell of a teamspirit, but this is my heart speaking, not my common sense, because that would be to send Ullmark down, to R.A, let him own that league like the boss he is, gain more intel of the American way of hockey, and then come up next season as 2nd, and fight for 1st.

This is the most likely scenario. Looking at economy for example. Sending down Chad is not economically.

And if i get this part right, Ullmark can only play 25 games, otherwize Sabres must offer him 1 way contract, right?

Sending down Ullmark now, would most likely be unfair to the team and him, but Robin Lehner costs $2,225.000 per season, he is comming no matter what.

That's okay, that's the way I am too when it comes to rooting for a team.  I know a lot of analytics and hard work go into a winning team, but I'm far more romantic in the way I view it.

  2. I'd bet Legwad returns as well, and maybe Carlos

Maybe, but I don't see either one of those guys being unique in what they bring.  And frankly if Moulson doesn't get out of his funk he could fill a spot on the 4th line in place of Legwand, with Schaller centering.  Might not be room for Legwand.

Coco has been a serviceable Dman, but he's not more than a 6-7 guy.  If he's not back, it's no great loss.

The trades I see happening will be largely trimming a few guys off the roster that aren't part of the long term future anyway (with the possible exception of McGinn, who is at best part of the "outer core.")

Turning over half the team expecting some sort of chemistry and cohesiveness is just as asinine.

Especially when you want to make the youngest team in the league even younger.

I'll agree with this, but my bold prediction is that GMTM trades no more than four players away by the deadline.  That's probably pretty average for a "seller."

So while we will hear trade rumors about a lot of players, we're not going to see excessive turnover.

  3. Not to this extent.

What extent?  We haven't traded anyone yet.  And we know that if Murray trades an asset he wants for the long term, he'll bring him back after the season.  I could see him cashing Weber, McGinn and Johnson, maybe even Legwand, for draft picks (everyone talks about how bare the cupboard is; the picks can help replenish) and the Sabres not being worse.

Weber is a 7th Dman on a team that needs help at the top, and any help they get there will push him off the active roster anyway.

McGinn is playing well (which may mean a big return), but he's the type of player that elevates his game when playing with other top players and is realistically more of a 3rd line guy, kind of like Chris Stewart last year, and I think he's replaceable.  And if he is part of GMTM's long term plan, he may pull a Moulson and sign over the summer.

Johnson is a steady backup, okay but not great.  Let a team that's thin at G grab him for a playoff run.

Legwand brings good experience, a locker room presence, and helps out on the PK, but I think he's fulfilled his job here and won't be back next year.  Might as well get something for him.  Or not.  Not sure there will be much demand for him.

And all these guys are UFAs.  Might as well get something for an expiring contract.

AS far as Ennis goes, I think GMTM will shop him around, but will trade asset for asset.  He'll try to get either a scoring winger, or maybe some blueline help.  Either way, though, I see Ennis being traded for someone else who's already in the NHL or a prospect who is NHL-ready.

And for every one of these guys who might be moved, it will create a spot for someone from Rochester to get some experience toward the end of the season.  After turning over half the team from last year, losing three or four, one of which is the backup goalie, is pretty minor.  The only one I really see affecting team chemistry is McGinn, and like I say, GMTM could conceivably bring him back.

  4. The best thing to do when the team finally wins a couple of games........................... mess up the combination. Way to go guys. I'm beginning to think this organization really doesn't want to win.

This year, no. But I can see where playing Lehner now will be good for the long term. Lehner could be awesome once he gets up to speed, so you might as well see what you've got. In the meantime, the rest of the team can learn to protect a weak goalie. If they learn how to do that, how much better do they get when they have a good goalie?

This year is not about playoffs, or tanking. It's about development and playing with Lehner could help that.

  5. So Reinhart, then Domi, now Bennett, all on consecutive nights IIRC, or with one day missing between. So one of, Larkin, Eichel, and Duclair should at least get one this weekend.

Duclair got one in October. Is Gaudreau a rookie, or is this his son second year?

  6. Lehner starts.  The Big Johnson is the backup.  Linus "The One" Ullmark gets seasoning in the AHL.

I can't possibly imagine any other scenario.

If Lehner is just awful terrible, maybe GMTM does something after 10 games or so.

And.... might as well let the team learn how to win in front of Lehner if he's just awful terrible, then insert a good goaltender and the Sabres will actually be good.

  7. So, I just scored a Reebok "Onfield" jacket for free from one of the DFW Bills Backers.  He got it as a gift a few years ago, but it doesn't fit him so he never wore it.  He posted about it in the Facebook group and I was the first guy that answered.  It's very nice.  He wasn't asking for anything in return but I gave him a sixpack of Real Ale craft beer.

  8. Is there anything more enjoyable than Eich and Sam cycling the puck? The two are yin and yang in style, but man is it fun to watch them develop together. I don't have kids but I understand the true joy of fatherhood.

Don't leave Zemgus out it.  When he skates with Jack and Samson, he looks like the Latvian Locomotive of last year.  Skating with them is helping him get his groove back.

  9. You must be enjoying this time of year, daytime biking in the summer is probably just as brutal as it is around here.

It is, but I get used to it. I can usually ride in the heat up to about 100 or 105. Then it just gets stupid. A lot of my rides are at night because in the summer it's too hot to ride in daylight, and in the winter it gets dark early.  It's been a little chilly lately, like in the 30s but it's supposed get into the 60s later this week.

Based on your map, either you're driving through people's yards or your GPS only plots you every half mile. :D

I think my bike lights might be throwing the GPS off a little bit.  If you didn't know, LED bike lights adjust their brightness by modulating the duty cycle (as in, they blink on and off very quickly, quicker than the eye can detect).  They dim the light by leaving it off a bit longer and leaving it on a little short during the pulses.  Anyway, that can generate EMI (electromagnetic interference) which can mess with other electronics such as, for instance, the GPS receiver on the phone.

  10. Strava! (followed you).

and now I know where your SS name comes from ;)

I suddenly don't feel quite as bad about being beat when I ride around my neighborhood. I'm in no way in good shape, but if I were to ride up out of  Coatesville to my house it's a 300ft climb over a mile. In my neighborhood there are 50-75ft climbs over a hundred or three yards. I really need to ride some flat ground.

Yeah, Fort Worth is pretty flat except for a few rises up the Trinity River bluff.  This is probably the steepest climb in town.

  11. Ejected?! Really?! That really wasn't that big of a deal. I'm guessing Wingels selling it helped.

A crosscheck to the side of the head?  It's hard to imagine a worse penalty really.

Very typical Myers hit. No idea how to use it effectively. Just spazzing out.

    Yes, this, exactly.

So Max Domi pulled a Samson tonight, scoring his first hat trick in the NHL, leading the Yotes back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits before OEL scored the OT winner.  This year's rookie class is nothing short of outstanding.

EDIT:  And reading the Coyotes GDT, apparently Duclair has had a hat trick already too.  They've got some awesome young talent on that team.  Domi & Duclair == Jack & Samson.  OEL == Risto.  Domingue == Ullmark.  I don't mean necessarily in terms of ability and talent, but in what they bring to their respective teams.  Kind of.  (I think Ullmark still needs some AHL time to work on his game, but he's been an unexpected look at what the future holds in goal.... just like Domingue for the Yotes, for instance.)

  12. I watched the game but I missed most of the posting here because I had to get some work done, so I had the game on while I worked.  Great first period, a fluky goal in the second, and a late desperation goal by Vanek that proved to be too little, too late.

I really liked that the whole team was moving.  I think we'll be seeing Zemgus/Jack/Samson on a line together for years to come.  Not all the time perhaps, but when the team needs to bear down and get'r done, that's a pretty great line to do it.  They didn't get the goals this game but they dominated at times.  They are all well suited to each other and fit together well.  Jumping Jack has the Flash, the Latvian Locomotive pushes the play, and Samson smooths down all the rough edges and makes the line work like a well-oiled machine.  With Jack and Samson, Girgs skates with the reckless abandon we loved in him last year.

    Oh, and....

  13. This board routinely chases new people out. It's not a good thing.

I missed all the drama during the game.  Just went back to his post history to see what led to EastsideOasis's leaving.  I saw several of the posts as they happened and frankly that was nothing more than normal forum banter.  Then he just got fed up and flamed out.  If someone leaves after such mild disagreement, so be it.  If he's going to be that high maintenance and be all about the drama, we don't need him.

Oddly enough, leading up to that I thought that while I didn't agree with him, he was pretty steady in making his points.  I didn't detect any "warning signs" until his last post (which I read for the first time just now).
