  1. Philly will take Jiricek now. Edit...never mind...went with Gauthier....very surprised.
  2. I kind of prefer Catherine Tappen myself!
  3. Somebody really wants Wright now!
  4. All the blah...blah...blah makes me wish every team had Tim Murray announcing their picks.
  5. Slovakia, the new NHL top prospect factory!!!
  6. What's kind of hilarious is that Chicago fans are now also pissed at Matt Murray for not waiving his NMC. If the Murray trade with Buffalo happened, there's no 7OA pick to trade for DeBrincat. Any chance Buffalo makes a deal with Chicago now to get that 7OA pick along with an expensive contract in return for 16OA???
  7. Grit > Size. I also thought Tuch was 6'-4" (not 6'-2")?
  8. I might be WAY off (to the point of sounding ridiculous)......but some of his shooting and puck handling moves remind me a little of.....Eichel
  9. Kind of depressing actually when you look at the long-term futility of our draft history performance (not just 1st rounder, but 2nd and 3rd round picks as well). Looking at it from who was a pleasant surprise.....in the last 10 yrs, only Victor Olofsson stands out as a late pick who exceeded expectations. Linus was a 6th rounder, maybe not a bad pick but he's no longer with us anyway.
  10. Nothing against Victor, but I am not convinced he is a lot more that one-dimensional still. I don't see his game translating well for playoff style hockey. If he was a few years younger, I could more open to a longer term, but I believe his salary needs to be a non-factor after two more seasons when our young core need new deals.
  11. Seems to me that the Sabres have signed UFA's to one year deals in abundance though. Some might be keepers, but most have moved on. If you statement is qualified by "high quality", then yes...that thins the herd.
  12. Hmmm....with some of those proposed numbers for RHD's, part of me would consider trying to keep Miller around another year or two....but he may not want to have anything to do with that! 😀
  13. So if we ignore the 7th rounder coming back to us.....my general question is how is today's deal better than signing a $5 million unrestricted free agent for 1 year? I know there's a thought that the team doesn't want to impede our young talent's playing time next season, but having an asset (player) vs. Bishop at least means we get something for something (vs. nothing for something). I realize there is still more cap space for UFA's too
  14. We do need RHD and I am not comfortable assuming Fitz is the answer for our 3rd pairing. Aside from playing less minutes, does PK still play with some edge or has that diminished as well?
  15. If I'm not mistaken, his salary + bonus only amounts to $3.5 million for next season, BUT his cap hit is $4.9 million (each yr for 6 years). If we trade for that contract, are we taking on $3.5 million or $4.9 million?
  16. Anybody know why he doesn't have much NHL mileage despite his 30 years of age? Overall career game count seems low....even including his minor league games. Is he injury prone?
  17. I'd like to know how many Vegas fans (and maybe players) who wish they would have kept Gallant.
  18. They have a good coach, strong goaltending and some elite up & coming talent. Hopefully Donnie is our answer at coach and we have improved our talent pool. Goaltending gap is obvious, but I feel the Rangers also made some player moves to improve as well....which is something I think GMKA needs to consider more of.
  19. I like GMKA, but I hope you are wrong about this. First of all, a credible GM should be open to making the team better and not relying solely on his pipeline development as the only means to do so. Second, I agree with Punch, even if our prospects develop, there is a certain element lacking in terms of players who can win tough 1-on-1 battles, which may require more size and tenacity than our prospect pool. He needs to open to making deals to bring us elements of what we may lack, especially for playoff style hockey.
  20. You're all over the place. All I was saying was that JBOT was not a very good judge of talent when it came to the NHL draft.
  21. I think you're not understanding my earlier point. When you have the 1OA pick and there is a unanimous first overall "generational" athlete, then I am saying it is a no-brainer to pick that athlete. JBOT had this situation with Dahlin, and he would have shocked the hockey world if he traded it or picked somebody else. That's why I do not give him any credit for making a shrewd decision in selecting Dahlin....IMHO every GM in the league would have taken him first as well. Would you have not been surprised if Edmonton picked Eichel instead of McDavid?
  22. Caps leading Panthers 2-1 with less than 5 minutes. Florida power play non-existent in this series. If the Caps prevail, they go up 3-1 in the series. Could this lead to an unexpectedly better draft pick? Update....Reinhart ties it up with their goalie pulled.
  23. I think you own post with specific names answers the question loud and clear. Again, Dahlin does not count. Don't forget how we got Tage as well (the trade). With maybe the exception of Cozens (potentially), there are maybe some bottom 6 forward potential from his own draft picks. I do like Samuelsson as his other D pick while Bryson impact remains to be seen. Drafting Johnson and Laaksonen were simply bad picks IMHO. UPL? Who knows yet. My point again was bad drafting and coaching decisions, not everything else he did as a GM.
  24. Jason Botterill's failures as a GM are still painful, even though he's been gone a while now. Whether it be bad coaches or bad drafting, I find very little good to offset the bad. BTW - picking Dahlin does not count, as that was a no-brainer.
