  1. high hopes for both Connolly and Gagne... laugh all you want about Connolly but Gagne has a chance to re-emerge as a 40 goal scorer this year if he can stay healthy. Plus he'll get time with Lecav, Stamkos, St. Louis, etc. So I don't think a 40 goal year from him is too far fetched. Vermette was a tough choice to include but I doubt you would have done TC/Gagne for just Heatley, and Vermette was my least personally valued player.. even though there's a chance he'll up more than Connolly. We will see.
  2. So what, will you finally admit you think Connolly is going to have a good year? I mean, I don't really have a problem with you picking him, it's just painfully obvious that you only did it so that I couldn't -- you're his biggest critic on the face of the planet and yet you were willing to take him some 60 picks before he was projected to go -- seems risky when there were still several players that 90% of the posters on here (including yourself) will tell me are better any time I bring up Timmy (Mikko Koivu comes to mind immediately). Just want some clarification is all.
  3. well im not gonna sign up for ESPN and wait for 15 others to join the league.. obviously yahoo had some technical difficulties, it should be fixed soon
  4. If you go to "My Team" you get a popup to join the draft but it then says we aren't drafting.
  5. When I try to join Live Draft ... "This league is not currently drafting. (Error #260)"
  6. What about a Sunday? I mean to be honest, finding a time that all 16 people can make it is unrealistic to begin with, but Saturday nights people are more likely to be out doing stuff. If it's a Saturday night, I won't know if I'll be able to make it until an hour or so before hand, 'cause there might be a party or something going on... or there might not. But Sunday night it seems like more people would probably be home watching football or, even if you're not a football fan, at least you'll probably be home as opposed to out drinking or what have you. I did mine Sunday at 7PM. We only had two people not show up (out of twelve), so it was a pretty good turnout. And I have the luxury of drafting on a laptop, so I was for the most part able to watch the Sunday night game and draft at the same time. The whole thing took about an hour, we were done by 8 - 8:15 or so. So that would be a better bet in my opinion.
  7. Personally I'm excited for a deep draft. To me, it kind of ruins the fun of fantasy sports if everybody's team is full of superstars. If everybody has a stacked team it's really just a toss up every week. But when you have to actually build a team with depth players and less offensive defensemen, it makes everything more fun. There's more action in the free agent market, more trades go down, up and coming players actually mean something -- the whole thing is just a blast. But to be honest, I did my first hockey draft of the year last week, and I think once everyone gets into the draft you'll realize there's a lot more talent than you can think of off the top of your head. I didn't have any problem drafting a team in a fairly deep league -- only 12 teams, but 8 or 9 forwards a piece.
  8. Img tags seem to be disabled for some reason.. you have to "attach" all files.
  9. I'm going to have to completely disagree with you here. Maybe it makes people "think" about who they draft, but it still doesn't make any sense. There is absolutely no reason that Patrick Kaleta should be more valuable than Sidney Crosby, but that would be damn near the case if you're giving Crosby 10 points for a goal and Kaleta 10 points for a hit. The point system is there for everyone to see, but it's HIS point system, not the default one Yahoo! uses or anything. So it's not like making a change to the scoring a month before the draft is any different than using the scoring he established a month and a few days before the draft.
  10. Touche  And I had the same confusion when I was setting up my league. I was constantly referring to the FAQ to figure it out, but I think I have mine set up correctly now. Here's what I read in the FAQ: "For every on-ice action, points are applied in every scoring category that action relates to. So, if a goal is worth one point in your league and a power-play goal is worth three points, a player scoring a power-play goal would be awarded a total of four (1 + 3 = 4) points." On plus/minus rating: "Points: Points are awarded by multiplying the player's plus/minus for the game times the scoring modifier selected by the league commissioner. If the scoring modifier is two and the player records a plus/minus of four, a total of eight points are awarded." I couldn't really find anything about negative point modifiers in the hockey FAQ, but the fantasy football one references that you can do it, so I'm sure it's the same in hockey.
  11. This seems pretty fair for the most part. My only real beef is Penalty Minutes -- in my league I eliminated them completely. Why should penalty minutes be considered a good thing? But if you want to keep them around I would at least make it 1 or 2 points per PIM. 10 points per PIM is too much, if somebody gets a fighting penalty they're awarded 50 points. That's as much as if somebody scores 5 goals. I think that's why, as somebody noted above me, lesser-skilled players are ranked higher than superstars. Plus/Minus is funky, too, in this scoring system. It probably shouldn't be worth 10, because if somebody goes +10 on the week, it will times it by 10 and end up with 100 points for that player. A couple less-important suggestions, just ones out of my own personal preference: - Special Teams points should be lowered, because they are combined with regular points. For example, if a player scores a powerplay goal, they're awarded the 10 points for a goal + 10 points for a powerplay goal (and same deal for assists). I would put it to about half of value of a regular point... ie: 10 points for a goal, 5 points for it being on the PP = 15 points for PPG essentially. - I think hits & shot blocks are valued far too much. Like penalty minutes, why should a single hit get you as many points as a goal? I think hits & blocks should be 1 point a piece. They are more like "additional" statistics rather than the primary goals/assists/etc. - Faceoffs are okay at 5, but Faceoffs lost needs to be set to "-5" I think, otherwise you're awarding centers 5 points for each faceoff they take. - I think goaltender statistics need to be upped as well, to make them as valuable as a forward. Wins should be 10, losses eliminated (or changed to a negative), Saves maybe 1 point a piece, and shutouts 5 a piece. Here is how I would do the scoring for this league... Goals (G) 10 Assists (A) 5 Plus/Minus (+/-) 1 Powerplay Goals (PPG) 5 Shorthanded Goals (SHG) 5 Game-Winning Goals (GWG) 5 Shots on Goal (SOG) 1 Faceoffs Won (FW) 2 Hits (HIT) 1 Blocks (BLK) 1 Goaltenders Stat Category Value Wins (W) 10 Saves (SV) 1 Shutouts (SHO) 5 Again these are all just suggestions, and I don't care either way what you decide to do. I'm not trying to sound like I'm complaining about everything, I just think the way you have it set up is a little unfair -- it totally decreases the value of scoring forwards and makes third and fourth line grit players who rack up hits/blocks/PIMs the true top scorers.
  12. Hey man, I'm a little curious how the divisions work. Is it just your standard top player from each division is guaranteed a playoff spot, and then the other top 4 teams? I have no problem with it, I'm sure it will be a blast regardless, but looking at the 'Standings,' it seems a little weird with only three teams per division. If you aren't planning on letting more people again (again, i don't mind either way -- I know a lot of people consider more than 14 teams too many) maybe a two-division league would be better? Just some thoughts. Can't wait for the season to get going!
  13. Yeah man. I opened my league up to the forum because I want more people that don't quit... so I know how bad it sucks when that happens haha. Anyway I'm in, thanks.
  14. Why does this board filter out some of the more general swear words? I can see racist remarks and things of that nature being blocked, but "shit", "ass", "heII", etc. What is this, middle school? It sucks when I try to use one of those words and then have to go edit my post because nobody knows what ###### curse word I'm using.
  15. I've looked all over the internet after seeing one on ebay two or three years ago. I can't find one anywhere and have only come across goathead/slug ones, and one with a classic logo but was nylon material. if anyone has one or knows where to get one please let me know!
  16. i'm finally entering the world of contracted employment (previously i've only held a few under-the-table jobs, plus some free-lance web design work), and thus am being introduced to taxes. enough said.
