My mistake on the OT. I must’ve misheard it.
-
Not sure what's prompting that (but, sure!). Maybe discussed upthread: Matthews' recent goal celebration was fantastic. Can't find a .gif, but after having one disallowed under dubious circumstances, he was emphatic when he won it in OT. Fun stuff.

Beyond Blue and Gold: Sabres.com series
That Aud Smell replied to Two or less's topic in The Aud Club
Gave it a watch. One thing that's been reinforced: Eichel's a solid guy -- or, at least, has it in him to be that way. And he's genuinely good with kids. I don't think you did. -

Days gone by, I dug my heels in with you on this. While I'm not totally there with you now, I've come a lot closer to your view of the matter. Even with regard to Roswell, I can recall your talking to the effect of, "hey, Roswell has a super noble mission and all, but let's not ignore that they have, like, a 'profit' motive of their own." And in response, I was all *MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB, LITTLE LAMB, LITTLE LAMB!* Or something like that. Having had two dear loved ones pass through that wonderful facility since first our debate was had, I have much more insight on the subject than I did when we first discussed it. It's a tangled ball of yarn. -
Hard to say "no." OTOH, I really thought that Jax had the best chance. The key to beating Brady is always getting pressure with your front 4 and then covering the sh1t out of the receivers. Jax had the horses to do that. More than anything, they were let down by their coaches. I'm not sure that Philly has the personnel to do what must be done.

IMO, the yuck-yuckity stuff in the end zone, the seeking out of Brady immediately at the final whistle ... that stuff is indicative of something having taken hold. And that something matters. And I don't think the resultant imbalance of calls are apt to even out over time -- not in the short-term, anyway. I'm fairly zen about it, though. Like I said: You earn your breaks. The Patriots succeeded enough that Belichick and Brady have become demi-gods -- and the refs are not immune to that. Did anyone see the post-Jax game presser where Belichick gave a somewhat ... dismissive answer regarding Brady's injury?

Ugh. I've come to conclude that it really is a mixed bag with the Pegulas. So I just look around the other major sports leagues and comfort myself knowing that our city's pro sports ownership situation could be worse (maybe even a lot worse). The thing I wanted to touch on: If the interview had been with a man and he was joking that he'd been given the nickname "Atilla the Hun" because he'd walked around the offices, figuratively lopping off heads, it'd be an equally bad thing.

I thought the topic was more of a "hey - what's our laundry list" - not a hot take type article. Items 1-3 on my laundry list: Speed/quickness. The team lacks the same. JFC. See ya , FGMTM. Why? (I'm not saying it is not a problem (or less than good), but am wondering about your take.)

This is weirdly strong advocacy for the detestable Patriots -- especially coming from a Bills fan (?). You're harping on the foolishness of the refs being part of some conspiracy. Agreed there. What of the points I made upthread about the Pats -- like Jordan -- getting (way) more than their fair share of breaks because the refs are unwittingly influenced by their "aura"?
-
I saw that same Tweet thread about how and why Marrone and Hackett lost the game. The guy who authored those was a *little* too pleased with himself, since his preseason review of the Jags team (and coaches) was *spot on* in terms of what the team could and would likely accomplish, and why they'd come up short in the playoffs. But, credit to him. The Jags started to play not to lose before the 1st half was even over, for crying out loud.
-
I see the context. Still weird as hell for the ref to react that way. Jerry Hughes was flagged for the same thing - celebrating with a teammate.
-
No reasonable person believes there’s a conspiracy among the refs and/or NFL senior management to favour the Patriots. Correspondingly, no reasonable person refuses to acknowledge that some or even many of the refs are unwittingly influenced by the Patriots’ aura amd prestige. As someone may have suggested, Jordan got officiated in a way that was separate and apart from how everyone else got officiated. The footage of the end zone yuck-yuck and Ref #34 seeking out Brady for a post-game congratulations are indicative of something. And that something tends to favour the Pats. But you earn your breaks, as they say.

"Grand soft," as the Celts might have said. https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/3d613975-dd7b-49a0-a64a-c890a501e1bf

Can This Franchise Be Saved? How Long Will It Take?
That Aud Smell replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
This seems as good a place as any to drop this question. (I'd thought about starting a new thread, and then thought better of it.) Up until quite recently Colorado was right there with the Sabres in terms of persistent awfulness and disappointment. Now they're ripping it up, in an apparently sustainable way. How'd they do it? Any lessons the Sabres can learn? -
As my 1st year roommate said to me (he was from Seattle): "It only rains once in Seattle -- from November to May." I've lived several places -- including in the Puget Sound area. Some of those other places may have received more total annual rainfall than the PAC NW, but none of them were as characterized by the rain as the areas in and around Seattle and Portland. It's the persistence of the rain, not the overall total amount.

I’m not averse to Emeralds. Kraken would be fun, too. I like fun.

The big fella from Wyoming is gonna have people thinking they're getting the next Carson Wentz. I heard that Josh Allen is even being coached by the same guy who molded Wentz. How Brownsy would it be if, after passing on Wentz, they picked "the next Wentz" and he stunk?

Not sure what Charlie speak is. I'm not bent out of shape. I just think that familiar expressions - vulgar or otherwise - that arose from a prejudice or bias against a certain class of people should be abandoned. I also find it silly and implausible to contend that the expression at issue here is not such an expression. I'm also not at all interested in just being sure that I clear the low, low bar that certain publicly elected officials have set.

No one's asked for professionalism. Some (including me) objected to Joker chirping Lou Lamoriello for being away from the trade phones because he was too busy chugging d1cks. (I am taking you at your word that you're confused.) Not really. Saying someone is too busy chugging d1cks is not even tied to the act of oral sex. It's just an absurd turn of phrase, meant to signify nothing, other than to denote an absurdity. My suggested substitution: Been wondering when Lamoriello will stop finger-blasting unicorns long enough to work the trade lines.

It's good that I said you're done? #iambeingpedantic Dude!
-
You're certainly done considering the matter. That much is clear.

Re pretty labels: Oh hell yeah. The brewery Collective Arts has taken that whole thing to another level.

I'm just talking about this one for now. If and when the "other similar jokes on here" catch my attention, I may talk about those as well.

I am so not a fighting type. I might even be fairly described as somewhat effete. But if some motherfunkster ever tried to give me a gose -- knowing how I feel about them -- I would have to throw hands. The first one I tried was very well reviewed. Like I said, it was thrust into my hand during a pub crawl. It was disgusting. At the insistence of a friend, I tried two others a week or so later. They were as bad or somehow worse than the first. I'm not sure if any of them were flavored with a fruit. (I have little use for such beers, fwiw.) NFW am I ever tippling a goddamned gose ever again. Ever.

^ That's an efficient means of shutting down discourse, anyway.
