  1. I watch the guy play, and I just keep being reminded of Derian Hatcher in that phase of his career where Tim Connolly was making him look like a pylon. Big, slow, and consistently on the wrong side of the play.
  2. On Super Bowl Sunday? Probably not. Also, a question on behalf of Gen Z and Gen Alpha: What the hell is Sportscenter?
  3. Can’t paste it here, but Chad D has a tweet about how Columbus’s XGF was 1.8, and they wound up with 4. I am essentially counting that game as a win.
  4. I’m gonna revisit the Samuelsson thing. The eye test says he’s getting abused. His raw Corsi matches that: 21 SAT against, 4 SAT for while he’s on the ice.
  5. Lol - my feed is about 30 seconds behind.
  6. I don’t understand the fuss over Samuelsson. I see him getting abused a lot.
  7. I can do without Bjork Bjork Bjork. I forgot about that one Hayden play on that shift. Beer league stuff.
  8. Stick-screen rather than a tip.
  9. Thanks, both. Okay. I get now why sometimes a #fancystats shrug of shoulders would be given when certain SOG disparities would occur — “meh - score effects.” But I definitely had it conflated with a PDO-type concept. Granato’s first challenge here is that his roster isn’t very good. Yet.
  10. I need more context to understand and respond. I thought *score effects* were sort of random - puck luck? I infer from this that a team can influence the other team’s score effects? Is that a function of the quality of chances surrendered? (I thought score effects was measured without regard to such predictive measures.)
  11. Going D-Line with their first pick would be quite something after going D-Line with the first two picks last season. Value always plays a big role -- like if there's a guy they love (have ranked top-10) who just drops to them -- but, with that caveat, I do, as you note, expect them to go DB with their top pick. If they were to go on the other side of the ball with their top pick, I'd like to see them go playmaker who can wiggle and burn.
  12. i think it tends to go on less and less, and that we hear about what goes on more and more. and that's because of brave people like kyle beach, mckayla maroney, and robert stone.
  13. I have not been following this of late - until just now. Holy sh1t. It's astonishing that Wirtz - both in what he looks like and what he has said - is the very embodiment of ... just the worst sort of person.
  14. Okay - so at least I am not mis-remembering: I cannot find a clip with that audio in it, anyway -- fake or not.
  15. I was gonna toss something out there about how his "Chris Everett" shtick certainly did not age well, nor even come off well at the time. (Wasn't it tied to concussion? Sheesh.) But I saw you addressed that. Even so, it's always fun to remember: Having posted it, I am wondering: Wasn't there original audio in that clip of Rome sort of squealing in protest? Maybe not. Rome is at a point in his media life cycle where he's fodder for the up and comers who look to tear down their idols (or at least those who have been at the top of the heap). I tip my hat to the guy -- he has done very well in creating a style, a brand, and a following. And he works his ass off. I won't seek him out on the AM dial, but, if he's on, I listen. He is damn good at what he does, and what he does is very difficult to do.
  16. That’s what I was getting at with “savvy.” It reads like a polemic or novella. But it seems like they’re partly focused on a federal lawsuit, partly focused on other forums. Agreed on the timing. I can’t even imagine that there was a courtesy phone call with a demand for all requested relief — maybe just a heads up that it was coming (and will you accept service).
  17. It is a very savvy pleading. Leading off with the Belichick quote? Invoking black history month (?) at paragraph 1? They’re angling at more than satisfying Iqbal/Twombley (sp?).
  18. some narratives die harder than a muhfugger.
  19. I mean ... he probably won't score 9 TD's next year ... but he did this past season and co-led the league in TE TD's. And then there was that superhuman catch for a TD against NE in the wild card game. The guy was incredible.
  20. It was the right move to hire the guy that the team's best player and unquestioned leader wanted to have hired, especially when that guy will provide continuity. Good for Dorsey for using the Giants as leverage to get better terms (I presume). I'm not saying that guy hasn't had an issue with drops, at times, but ... I cannot fathom how a fan of the Bills would feel anything other than good about Knox as the team's TE.
  21. He specifically announced his retirement from the "sport of football" and the NFL.
  22. Just saw a couple social media posts from some NE folks I know -- looks like Pats nation is freaking out (or trying not to freak out) about Brady's retirement statement (which omits any mention of the Patriots).
