  1. Eh. It is a different vibe when he's on the team. I'm not saying I love it, or even like it. I'm just responding to the question posed. Are these Adams' comments today? This is encouraging if so.
  2. I infer that he is, in the FO's estimation, part of the answer to the question of how you mentor and bring along a young core.
  3. that word is doing so much work right there.
  4. And who's the starter? Not UPL. (Not yet anyway.)
  5. Really encouraging news. +++ “She’s doing a lot better now. That’s why I’m here," Jessica said after the match. "If she wasn’t doing well, I probably wouldn’t have come. I flew out Wednesday last week, and within that time she was in a really good condition, where I felt like everything was fine, and I felt like my family had everything under control. She’s progressing and she’s been doing rehab. I felt comfortable coming here. But that’s why I didn’t play any warmup tournaments.” “I hope,” she said, “she got to watch me play today.”
  6. It's a good question. To me, the key word is "rehabilitating." You're not doing any rehab in an ICU, in my experience. If she's doing rehab, she's hopefully in a rehab facility (not a hospital) doing that rehab.
  7. Why would Malone be the 4C as Yerdon suggests? Isn't Girgensons more likely to centre that line?
  8. Isn't Malone one of those AHL vet types who earns the same in the A as he would in the NHL?
  9. My kid who has nearly zero interest in sports of any kind LOVES that song (she loves kitsch and irony, of course). Whenever Zemgus scores, I send her a screenshot of the box score update from my Score app along with an egg emoji. She had looked up some translation of the lyrics back in the day (which I can no longer find), and there was something about "eggs in the basket, are you ready?" - an apparent reference to scoring goals?
  10. I’d forgotten that piece of the story. So he yells as part of his leadership shtick. The yelling to me is secondary, even tertiary. The intensity of the demands that he places on his teammates is what I took away.
  11. Well now, wait a second. I don't think the narrative here is that Drury, MacKinnon, and those hockey leaders from a similar mould are yellers, beraters. My takeaway from the Wyshinski (sp) article linked upthread is that MacKinnon is relentlessly intense and demanding - on himself and his teammates. I don't know that he needs to be "yelling" in order to relate to a teammate that it's unacceptable to sleep walk through a passing drill in February. Shoot - he could do that quietly in the player's ear during a rest. Also, he doesn't need to be yelling when he's telling people, flat out, that they can eat sh1t in the offseason if they choose, but, during the season, they will eat the right stuff. Like I said: That is a*sshole and d1ck behaviour, but it has also proven effective. I've posted here about the stories about Jumbo Joe's style of leadership. Quite different. Yet again OTOH, did Joe Thornton ever win anything? 😬 Do we have an OT-ish "what makes a good captain" thread? Maybe it would be a good offseason thought project.
  12. I remember that being inferred. Was it ever confirmed? Some sort of abdominal injury (hernia)? I like the player. He's good and useful. But I would not call his game heavy, nor would the word "jam" be used to characterize him when he's on the puck. And that's a deficiency. I looked at teams playing late into the playoffs, and I felt like they have role+ players comparable to Olofsson, who can also play with their hair on fire. So, to me, he's more than a replacement value player, but short of being someone who's part of the team's long range plans.
  13. Isn’t Olofsson a player who was being discussed as ineffective for stretches last season? I know that he rounded into better form, but then we’re talking limited sample size. I’d be reluctant to commit to a 5* year term with him.
  14. Meh. Progressing well and resting are sufficient for the day.
  15. also nice of the family to accommodate @PASabreFan by specifically acknowledging "well wishes" this time.
  16. this is correct. whoever kick started it seems to have covered their tracks, or never left any to begin with. When the tennis match was unhelpfully announced as “canceled,” that did momentarily add fuel to the fire.
  17. Better to blame the brokenness of human nature. Adam and Eve?
  18. first class. thanks. the piece quoted above is especially helpful to my understanding of the moving parts.
  19. Appreciate that. I will allow: The suddenness and ambiguity of the initial announcement, combined with what appeared to be credible information regarding the ICU being involved, followed by no reports or information** for a couple weeks, made this sort of thing inevitable. **There's some talk on that upthread; perhaps you could weigh in on the journalism ethics question I posed.
