  1. RJ & Lorentz are homers, they are just a lot more subtle about it. I really think NESN would completely ignore the opposition during the pregame and in-game announcing - except to tell us all how much the B's opponents cheat, they get away with stuff....

The B's announcers are absolutely brutal and I agree with what has already been mentioned about their constant whining about calls / non-calls. What is most annoying to me though is that the play by play jackass sounds like someone just died when the Sabres score. Let there be no doubt, RJ is a homer, but at least he tries to raise his voice in recognition when the other team scores.

  2. What's with that horn? I didn't think that stuff was allowed during game play?

The horn is coming from a big black guy (Canes employee I'm assuming) who stands by the Canes cheerleaders in one corner of the rink. He has been there every time I have gone to a game and I was right next to him tonight. It's really irritating. Was it also noticeable on TV how the sound guy kept the music playing into the game action a few times? Absolutely bush league all around.

  3. It's kind of habit at this point -- there are definitely people sticking up for his performance last night.

You might be referring to my post. First of all, you might notice that nowhere do I say that we were deeper, or better. But that aside:

I wasn't totally referring to your post. My reason for asking Caniacs to name their #7-10 d-men from last year is two fold:

1.) To demonstrate how they really don't know their team all that well

2.) To attempt to demonstrate to them that losing 4 of your top 6 d-men would represent a HUGE blow to their team's chances of success.

    Commodore

    Hedican

    Kaberle

    Ward

    Wallin

    Wesley

    Hutchinson

    Tverdovsky

    Babchuk

All 9 of those defensemen played 20+ regular season games for Carolina last year. #10 on the depth chart was Chris Hajt, who with only 6 career NHL games would have been indeed scary to see.

Thanks for doing the work for me. I never really have bothered to look and see who their top 10 were from last year. I was waiting until someone could actually give me four names before I bothered to check for myself. ;)

  4.

Last time I checked we went down to #10 on the depth chart. It was also suggested that the Sabres should have made some moves when we had injury trouble....That's a good idea...oh wait the NHL has a trading deadline. DOH.

I live in Raleigh and dealing with idiots who can't admit that maybe, just maybe us losing 4 of our 6 d-men for game 7 could have had an effect on the outcome of that series is absolutely draining. This is the discussion that I now begin with Caniacs who can't admit to this.

Q: Please name for me the Hurricanes' #7-10 defensemen on their depth chart last year.....

A: Some can name one, maybe two of them.

My response is then: Now imagaine that these guys, WHO YOU CAN'T EVEN NAME, are ALL playing in a game seven for you.

A: Usually silence or stammering. The best answer I ever received though was: We don't even have 10 defensmen!

I'm now up to 32 people I have had this discussion with. I'll stop asking when someone comes up with all four defensmen.

  5. We might hate to admit it, but Carolina is a really good team. Both teams are going to be fired up each time they meet this year. Both have a lot of speed and skill, and both have good goaltending. None of the games is going to be a blowout, including tonight's.

    Sabres win, 3-2.

I have no problem at all admitting that the Canes are a really good team. I really don't hate that team at all, they were as deserving as any of the final four last year in taking home the Cup. I have been following sports long enough to know that in addition to being good you also need some luck to take it all. Our bad luck was their good luck and they took advantage and rode it to the Cup. Good for them.

It's their fans I find it hard to have much respect for.

    Canes get slugged tonight, 4-1.

  6. And finally, it was impressive hearing the Wile E. Coyote Suprageniuses boo Dumont when he was helped off the ice after being SPEARED by cheap shot artist extraordinare Gauthier. So much for all their fan message board whining that you would never see fans in Filly do something classless when an opponent is injured.

Can anyone that was there confirm what the PA announcer said while Dumont was down? I could have sworn he said something like "Now let's make sure we cheer when he gets up." Either way, the few classy fans at ice level you could actually see clapping when Dumont was carried off were drowned out by the sea of boos resonating down from the rafters. What a bunch of iceholes.

Edit: sorry, didn't see Hirly's post above about the PA announcer. Seriously though, WTF is up with the PA guy even thinking of saying that?
