  1. How many times are we going to ice the puck this period? 20? 30?
  2. Yes! Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
  3. Linus looks calm as in net. I like that very much.
  4. Pretty good first period considering how badly we suck. :P Samson is like a Ninja out there.
  5. Dahlin is exactly what this team needs. But, as it stands we only have a 12.5% chance of getting him. Thankfully, there should be several nice defense prospects available depending on where we draft. http://www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_odds
  6. Yessir. Every GM in every sport will "miss" on some/many draft picks (and hopefully "hit" on some as well). The better question is how does that GM's performance stack up relative to their peers? The best GM is one that, like you said, is just a small fraction better than their peers at what is a fantastically imprecise science (projecting future performance).
  7. From my perspective, this is a very weak popular press piece (by two "statisticians" with no better than undergrad-level training) with the clear aim of discrediting Mel and Todd. All drafts in every sport contain a fair amount of noise (i.e., predicted value = true value + error). To say that many players end up as better/worse than these two predict isn't terribly informative. A better question to ask is: do Mel and Todd do better than the teams themselves do? Or, do they do better than other ranking services? Or perhaps are they better than some other statistical baseline? A basis for comparison is needed.
  8. I'm an ACC guy (Virginia Tech season ticket holder for decades) so I've seen many Louisville games the past few years. ...And, I don't have a clue what he'll be as a pro. I think that's the dilemma with scouting him. Freakish athlete with 4.4 speed who could take off running whenever he wanted in college... but the pro game is just so different. My concern with Jackson is he wasn't terribly accurate in college. Really hard to project how he'll do in a pro style offense. So in that sense I'm not sure I'd trade up for him. But, if he were there at 21/22... :D
  9. Always injured, yes, but the guy isn't a very good player. He doesn't help the team when he is in the lineup. He isn't a difference maker. JBot needs to blow up our defense Corp and start over again.
  10. I agree with this. The league shouldn't be giving expansion teams Stanley Cup contending rosters right out of the gate. I'm overly simplifying it but they could have any second pair defenseman or any second line forward they wanted off of any team in the league. Plus tons of cash for free agents. Just seems like too much to me. ...not to mention, the other Cup contending teams (all of which had a ton of depth) became weaker from losing a player each to Las Vegas.
  11. I agree. Smith led the NFL in QB rating this year and is still only 33. He's no Tom Brady, but he is an upgrade over Tyrod. And, it'd buy us a year or two.
  12. Ah, yeah, we take the dead money hit for Marcell next year, but still better than carrying that atrocious contract year-over-year. With this many viable QB prospects in the draft, I agree with the above sentiment that it'd be nice to not move up. Especially since QBs are such a crap shoot.
  13. We should have quite a bit of cap room, so we can make some "splashy" pro personnel moves if our GM chooses to do so. Getting rid of the Dareus contract was a big help with the cap. Cutting Tyrod and/or Kelvin Benjamin and/or Cordy Glenn would also create a bunch of space. Cousins will get a big payday somewhere. My guess is Denver or Arizona.
  14. We have picks 21, 22, 53 and 56.
  15. I remember the great Flutie / Johnson debates back-in-the-day. Johnson would get sacked every third drop-back and a huge number of fans went with the "our offensive line" sucks excuse. Then Flutie comes in. Same line. Moves the team and is rarely sacked. ...my point is our receivers might not be that terrible. We just don't have a QB who can throw the full route tree. I'm excited to see which QB we draft (or which QB we target in free agency).
  16. This bolded point is very true. That's why I love that we made some moves to stockpile draft picks. We should have picks 21 and 22, I think (?). Yesterday's Chiefs loss helped us.
  17. I like Rudolph. I like Mayfield. I Rosen. I like Darnold, but he really struggled this past season. I like Josh Allen too. Trading down last year to get an extra pick this year gives us a ton of flexibility.
  18. How about throwing cash at Kirk Cousins then using the 2 firsts and 2 seconds to shore up other positions? ...of course, most free agents don't want to play for the Bills. But, maybe we'll get lucky. :D
  19. I'd draft him. ...with 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders, the big question is whether we plan to trade multiple picks (e.g., both of our firsts) in order to move up for a QB. It'd be great if we can get a good QB without having to trade the other first round pick. We shall see...
  20. 5-6 quarterbacks expected to go in the first round of the draft. Hopefully we get one of them.
  21. Good chance that was the last snap Tyrod takes in a Bills uniform.
  22. 2 minutes left. Need a TD. No timeouts. ...I'm sure it'll still be dink-and-dunk 2 yard passes.
  23. Jesus our offense is terrible. I know the Jags have a good defense, but this is unwatchably bad. 3 points?!
