Nothing's being kept secret.  We just don't know much yet.  Here:  https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-14/us-says-mystery-objects-likely-private-craft-not-tied-to-spying?srnd=premium&leadSource=uverify wall

There's no need to engage in conspiracy theories at this time.

Yes we don't know much yet...because they're keeping that information under wraps.  If you want to play semantics and say that's not keeping anything secret, so be it.

And why is saying they're our own balloons a conspiracy theory?  This was a thread started to talk about the balloons.

Nothing's been secret.  The first one was Chinese and I'm imagining the others were drugs, just like the drone they caught trying to cross at Lewiston a couple of weeks ago.

Usually, when I send drugs, I use balloons.

Information about every other balloon than the first/Chinese one has been kept secret.  And if it's drugs, no reason at all to not come out and say it.

  3. So is still believed that if you start a goalie too soon you can ruin him?  That sounds like what they used to say about QBs in the NFL.  Now practically every highly-touted rookie QB starts.  If he's got the goods, he'll succeed no matter when they start him.

    We shall see.

He almost definitely will be on the Sabres roster this year after NU's season is done.  If he actually gets into any games, he might surprise in a good way.  In the off-season, he's been facing NHLers since his midterms.

He won't need nearly as much time in Ra-cha-cha as most are expecting.  Could see him taking the Sabres crease by Christmas unless UPL or Comrie take their games to another level.

Yeah to ensure he signs, they'll have him on the Sabres roster.  And if they play themselves out of the playoffs, I'm betting he gets a start.

The notion that Portillo is afraid of competition because he wants to scan the hockey market to find the best employment option for him makes little sense. He was a diligent student who stayed in school because he was serious about his education. That shouldn't be something that warrants criticisms as it should be praised. If he believes that he would have a better professional opportunity somewhere else, then that is his right. As it is for anyone in any profession. He's acting within the rules of the profession, so why should he be criticized?

Good points.  But he's still a Nancy boy.

I don't really understand this. So the NHL draft is really such a crapshoot that you can draft a foreign kid and he can just basically ignore you for 2 years, go play in college or a lower league and just become a UFA if over 20 or go back into the draft if under 20? Looks like the rules for USA players are a little more onerous, but basically they would just need to finish college and wait a few months, right? What is the motivation for anyone to sign with the team that drafted them?

    That's above my pay grade.

He has Eichel centering a line of Cotter and Amadio. Paul Cotter might, might, play a traditional fourth line checking role in the NHL someday, but he's not much more than an AHL tweener right now. Amadio is at least a bona fide NHL player, but he's still a bottom 6 guy who is going to be fighting for his roster spot every year.

Basically, Eichel is with two JAGs (or at least one JAG and one semi-JAG). How did that work for Jeff Skinner again? Anyone remember?

Cassidy publicly named and shamed Eichel. Now he's playing him on a line with talent worse than Eichel played with at any point in Buffalo (remember all the "if Eichel were on a good team" arguments?). I recognize Stone is injured, but what is Cassidy even doing? That's not how you motivate Eichel to do better. He's going to keep phoning it in and he'll stay stuck in his weird mental space he goes to.

Say what you want about the trade, Eichel's time here, or anything else Eichel/Buffalo related, but you can't deny that Eichel was on a tear to start this season in Vegas. He got injured and I am convinced something transpired with the coaching staff. Maybe he was asked to play through it. Maybe Cassidy told him he's too soft. I don't know. But I am convinced something happened and now Cassidy is at a loss for how to deal with Eichel because Cassidy's strong suit has never been player management.

    He wanted to get surgery...

What it means is that Kim apparently became very sick in May '22 with some mystery illness that has never been explained. She was a highly promininent businesswoman and executive with the Bills and Sabres on the national stage and we don't know anything about her condition, we don't know what affected her and we haven't seen her or even heard anything about her in many months. She also seems to have been replaced by Roth in the Sabres' organization. I feel like she's been disappeared, possibly because of her illness. I think the people of Buffalo deserve to know and I think it's respectful of Kim to understand what happened to her. No one should just disappear from the public view with no real explanation. Why has the family made her situation into a mystery?

And that means she died and they are covering it up?

Is anyone shocked by this news?  No, I didn't think so.  This seemed apparent in the off-season, why not trade him the

No one probably is now.  But last year right after he chose to return to school and I said he wasn't going to sign, I got a lot of blow back.

What "scares" me (in a good way) about him is that he seems to have the skill to do what he does CONSISTENTLY.

There's really no reason for his production to just shut off. The guy has huge size and reach and he has already learned how to use his body as a shield like Lemieux, Andreychuk, and Jagr did...unbelievable hands and puck control...and best of all---ENORMOUS PATIENCE.

The dude should be a perennial 50 goal man.

What an unbelievable turn of events!  I had this guy written off for DEAD for several seasons after the trade..now he's making me forget about the Conn Smythe winner we traded for him.

It seemed like a throwaway in the trade.  Someone said that Botterill wanted 2 other players from STL before him.
