Take this information however you wish but I ran into an nhl scout the other day who I hadn’t seen in awhile. He used to razz me about the Sabres all the time.
I hadn’t seen him in quite sometime, in fact he’d started working for another team in that time.

So we had a beer and got talking shop. Anyway I mentioned how it finally looks like the Sabres are coming and said I was excited about them signing Levi. He agreed the Sabres are looking like a good team going forward but He quickly said, don’t get your hopes up on Levi. We didn’t get into it (the ladies were tired of hockey talk) but I found that to be an interesting comment.

    Time will tell.

    Opinions are like...

According to Paul Hamilton, Levi hasn't even practiced with the team yet. Too many people are jumping the gun on this exciting prospect. Comrie should get the start against Montreal. Just focus on one game at a time and keep the race going as long as possible.

Yeah, no practice, much less several under his belt, no start.

Not necessarily. He's got issues to attend to. That doesn't mean that he can't resolve them. I wish him the best. When organizations make decisions, they do so with the information they have on hand. Sometimes the situation can unexpectantly, dramatically change. You can't control that. The Panthers had a prospect who hadn't signed a pro deal and was years away from playing in the league. So trading him in a package that brought you back a good NHL player was a good deal for them. You just do the best you can with the information you have on hand.

True they had no idea at the time, just saying in hindsight.  Which is obviously 20/20.

If you factor in that Reinhart was not going to sign and become an UFA in the following year, that deal was a marvelous deal for us. Of course, there is an assumption that in the near future Levi is going to be a primary goaltender for us. That isn't a stretch to believe. On the other hand, we shouldn't discount the fact that Reinhart was a terrific pickup at a relatively minimal cost for Florida. Good deal for both sides. Just like the Jack deal.

I’m sure the Panthers are seriously regretting the trade/trading Levi after Spencer Knight entered the assistance program.

    Fixed.

Why do put out this on the players?  Awkward.   If the coaches decide he plays then he plays.

    Sports teams are not democracies.

If it's before they're eliminated from the playoffs, they should absolutely consult with at least the team leaders.  And that doesn't make it a democracy.

  6. He should not start until he's had several practices under his belt and from that appears to be able to start.  And then it should go to asking Levi if he's ready to start and then approaching the team (at least the leaders) and asking if they would be OK with him starting.

Really, Saros knows who Levi is?

Why not?  It's not like they didn't meet each other and Levi wasn't a top college goalie, i.e. someone worth knowing.

You're betting the kid can win his debut while we are still in a playoff race with only 2 losses to spare. (tops)

If not MTL, maybe the Flyers? A team that isn't an offensive force, but has had our number all season.

MTL is the worst team left on the schedule.  It's either them or no one (until they're officially eliminated).

And hopefully they will feel the need to continue this new-found defensive mindfulness because there is a rookie in goal.

I heard on a militia radio broadcast that I regularly listen to that if the internet shuts down because of a nuclear war initiated by our government that the backup source of communication will be moon beams. The militia warned me that if it is cloudy it may interrupt the broadcast. Then I was instructed to patiently wait for the weather to clear up.

No, COVID was going to be shut down.

Certainly was a joke (painfully so and with bad spelling to boot). @MBD, which other little brother did I miss? Casey's little bro and who else?

Now that I'm on my laptop, here's the goal I referenced.

My bad on the joke.  And Casey's got 2 little bros on the team.

BTW, what's the status of Johnson?  His season's over, right?

What fantastic hockey in the Big10 Championship game last night. Minn vs. Mich. Talent all over the ice.

Playing were a defenseman we hope joins the Sabres soon, a young prospect that may develop into something in a year or two, a goalie we no longer care about, and even a Sabres’ little brother.

Johnson looked solid, not spectacular. He defends and skates well. Exits the zone cleanly. Wasn’t on the ice for any of the Mich goals (although I think Jakob Bryson was on for three of them).

Lastly, don’t know how to attach from my phone but find a highlight of Pitlick’s (Minn) goal. YouTube maybe? Absolutely incredible. The Michigan defender is now suffering from PTSD.

Correction, 2 Sabres' little brothers.  And Jakob Bryson?

Is it OK to think that if you have a must win you should play the goalie who gives you the best chance to win without regard to selling hope, player development, process and the like?

Of course.  But I'm approaching this as the season is over.

Exactly what I said would happen. People can’t complain about how he won’t sign here so now have moved on to how he will not live up to expectations.

Miller got bombed for like 7 goals against Detroit in his debut. Didn’t affect how his career went.

Some people hope he is the franchise saviour. They are terrified to see him play net because the first weak goal that goes in will absolutely destroy them mentally.

They signed him to a 3 year deal to play. Put him in for a few games and see how he does. If he falls on his face then no problem, the Amerks are the plan next year anyways. If he shows well then ride him. The other goalies aren’t providing consistent goaltending right now.

I think that's a mischaracterization of what's going on here.  Some (like me) want to see him play ASAP.  Others want to wait because they're worried a bad debut will destroy his confidence permanently.
