Meanwhile, Scott Laughton to Buffalo rumours flying again. Not sure how I feel about that. He'd fit the 3C role but I don't know enough about him. Torts doesn't seem to like him so I'd have to wonder why?

Well he plays both powerplay and powerkill, so some trust Torts have in him. And with an "A" on his chest he has been the only player on the team with a letter until like yesterday, in a team that has played much better than expected, so I guess he has to be a decent leader also. And PP, PK and leadership are three main things I believe Buffalo is scouting for. Other than that I do not know, I have not watched Flyers play at all.

But I do not think bringing in a veteran from a team in a playoff spot to a team losing is a good idéa. I can not see anyone be motivated then. As a offseason deal I could see Laughton moving.

  2. Below Three tings that I think should be done and I hope GM will fix during the offseason. Fire Granato is not among those three tings, I am that convinced he will be back next season.

    1. A RHD to play with Dahlin. Quinn Hughes got his Hronek, Makar has Toews, it is time to get a Hronek for Dahlin.

    2. Buy out Skinners contract. I said earlier that it probably will be done with two seasons left, but at this point it is no reason to wait any longer.

    3. Get a player specialized on power play(bonus if he do pk also). And one with some guts and leadership, someone that tell Thompson that the whole league has seen his onetimer now, try something new, and that there has to be quick movement on both puck and all players. It is hard to find a player like this and they are not for free, but there are some out there and I say just pick one and Go for it. It can't get much worse.

No. Definitely no. Those guys are pure AHL roster fillers and nothing more. On a good day maybe Clague level but definitely not NHL players.

I could see Adams wanting Lysell. He fits the (dumb) Sabres ideas on young picks but I see him no better than our former Nylander. He also might want Mitchell as he's a "puck mover" but it would be a mistake. If Adams wants Zboril, it's time to find another team to cheer for.

Haven't seen them play, just looking at the stats, that looks promising. Thanks for the update!

    Maybe Lauko then?

  4. The zone entries are not even near NHL level. I tried to come up with a good reference but I couldn't Would like to know if that really is coached? The other teams know that once they get the lead, they can stay on defence and both keep us far from their goal and get turnovers to score more goals.

I think coming up with a different tactic would open up the game a lot and the scoring will aprove.

I'd also consider trading TNT before Mitts.  This sounds counterintuitive at first since TNT is kind of a unicorn.  He's big, skates well, has a wicked shot, and can stick-handle in a phone booth.  However, he still isn't a good two-way player.  To me, he is just a bigger better version of VO.

I believe TNT's scoring is replaceable.  When I look at the Sabres, I see plenty of other goal scorers.  Quinn, Cozens, JJP, Skinner, and Tuch all can or have scored 30+ in the NHL.  Kulich is also a goal-scorer.  How many other playmakers and two-way forwards do we have other than Mitts? Benson? Maybe, but he is only 18, and years from his full potential.  Östlund? Probably, but we have no idea when he'll arrive in Buffalo (if ever).

I also think TNT would garner a higher return than Mitts given his 90+ point season and reasonable contract.

PS: This trade deadline may be the best opportunity to move Skinner and most of his contract.  He is still scoring at a good pace.  Teams need scoring in the playoffs.  The cap jumps next year giving teams the ability to afford his deal beyond this season and Skinner might be willing to waive him NMC to go to a playoff team after missing the playoffs all 13+ years of his career.

I am thinking of this too. Adams should really evaluate his sk first line. Is Thompson a 1C that can make us a contender? For now he isn't one that even take us to the play offs. As you say he will bring more in return than Mitts. And he is still without any NTC this season, what I read it is only a five team clause next year, but still. It is easier when he do not need to go through his agent first. And after trading Thompson Mittelstadt can't demand the same money either.

I like Thompson, he has those skills and that shot, but I do not ser him as a 1C. Some blame the roster construction and maybe that is where the problem is, I do not have the answer.

And if Thompson is traded, who is our 1C?

I wonder if we could retain 3 mil on Skinner and trade him to Vancouver for Garland and DiGuiseppe(just some random guy with at 750k)

It would certainly be an all-in move for a Vancouver team on fire and upgrades their offensive output.

Garland clean up the cap issues but is at least a bit more 2 way capable

I like this! Skinner would finally get to play for a cup.

Huh, Google translate has the translation as "A beautiful bone". Anyone know if that's the case? 😉

(I really kid you not: https://translate.google.com/?sl=fi&tl=en&text=Uopea luuonen&op=translate; but it's one of those where you translate the English and the Finnish comes out completely different, so 🤷‍♂️)

Well... The best translation I could do from that bad spelling is "the one with beautiful bones". Should we simplify that and just call him *****??

That's reasonable, and I totally get it. I probably do use Boston as an example too often but I am familiar with them

My biggest issue with the Sabres approach is I think they have Rochester all wrong. It's a mini-me training ground for offensive talent to match the franchise but imo what it should be is a hard working, grinding defensive team that forces these skilled guys out of their element and drills 2 way hockey in to them. Then, after a year or three of that they can come up and let their offensive skills re-emerge but with that 2 way game drilled into their instincts. You could discuss the details in a long thread, but I just think our development program isn't very good for a team that wants to be this reliant on the draft.

I totally agree with this! It is so much easier to see which players are suitable for NHL if they have to show responsible two way play and also have to create offence in a defensive system.

  9. I have been in leadership course where they teached that when giving feedback it should be three positive things for one negative. So here we go:

    One negative:

The goal scoring. It is really difficult now. It has got them frustrated, and that makes it even harder. They need some "easy" goals to unlock it, the problem is that the easy bouncing goals do not come if they do not work hard enough in front of the net.

    Positive 1:

Due to The Hockey Writers, since the horribel loss to Columbus they have given the fewest goalchances 5 on5 in the league. That is a big improvment.

    Positive 2:

Goaltending. UPL is looking like the goalie we have waited for. And Levi is in Rochester and getting games and getting time to develop his game.

    Positive 3:

Cozens. He is improving, and I think he has looked as good as ever lately. He should not be on the PK, but he is not putting himself to play there either, Adams need to get a player that take face offs and PK. And he need to get goalscoring going again.

The Rangers are shopping Kakko. He’s near elite defensively and a bottom six role with potential middle six upside. A change of scenery may do him well and we don’t have any excellent defensive forwards.

Upcoming RFA and 2.1MM. Rangers could use the cap space for their playoff run (Filip Chytil done for the year and they need cap to find a top six trade partner).

I would take Kakko as a low cost experiment.

I Like this! He got size too! But we Have wingers already. If we retain half Skinners salary for the next two years maybe Rangers would be interested in a trade??

Would you play him if he could?

I would not Rush him, definitely not, but he is young and need to play games to develop, so if medical experts say he is good to go and no risks exept from the normal game situations, then it is ok with me. Playoff-games is a boost and gives routine. With some luck he could build chemistry with other Sabre prospects, like he and JJ did.
