Do you even know what that is?  Honestly curious.  My son is almost your age and I'm quite sure he doesn't.

I have to admit that I don't. So please tell!

The Leafs will never ever trade Taveras to the Sabres.  Also Taveras has a full NMC.  If he wants to stay to Tor, he's staying.

If he wants to move, he'll pick a team that is a Cup contender next year, not the Adams lead Sabres.

What about Sean Monahan as an alternative?  He is 29 (30 in Oct), had a nice rebound season (59 pts - 26g 33a) and can play all 3 forward positions.  He won 54.9% of his faceoffs (nearly 1300 draws) and is from Brampton Ontario.  a two 2 years 10 mill total contract might do the trick.  I think he'd slot very nicely into the 3rd C role, and maybe even drop Cozens to the 3rd C role.

Monahan is also very good on pp. I would be very excited having him on the team, but as mentioned above I expect him to sign in Winnipeg.

Any thoughts on Konsta Helenius for the 24 draft?

Definitely a coming top 6 player in NHL. It is a while since I was this excited about a Finnish player. I compare him with Kaapo Kakko, but I think Helenius has easier to adjust to NHL than Kakko and the eye test say his compete level is higher. Compared to Sabres prospects I think Benson is closest, but it might be Benson is tougher close to the net.

I'm not sure the KHL (if that's what you're thinking) is the draw it was a couple years ago given "outside factors".

Yes, that is what I am thinking. KHL is not as good as it once was, but it is hard to make a guess how good since other european teams not play against them. But I think they still pay good players good money and that might be just as important as the possibility to play against the best players in the world. But for some young russian men sports is the possibility to get out of Russia. It can be both ways.

A side track but still. I recently read a interview with Christian Ruuttu, where he told the story of Alexander Mogilny arriving to Buffalo. Unfortunately it was in Finnish, otherwise I would have shared it here. A lot of fun stories there.

I still suspect the the trade was made to give the team an additional season to use the asset in a move to bring in a different type of player into the lineup.

I think they ran out of time to use Mitts for that purpose and have bought time.

I have tried to see the trade in different ways, and this is the only thing that makes sence.

This is the most I can ever remember the board being so nearly unanimously in favour of moving picks and prospects even the good ones. Definitely saying something.

Half of the quartet Savoie, Östlund, Rosén and Kulich will probably never get a permanent spot on the roster. But all of them are good enough to be full time NHLers. The hard thing is to evaluate who of them we need.

I was thinking today maybe all we need to make the playoffs would be to sign Lindholm in free agency and add a couple bottom end tough guys and if UPL stays the same that might be enough with Ruff in charge. A tough D man (Zadorov?) would be additionally good but maybe Samuelsson plays healthy(ish) and that too is enough to get us over the hump.

It's not that hard to do, but it has to be done.

I like this. I don't think it is harder than that either.

But we probably will have to pay Lindholm more than Mitts asked for. On the other hand, EL playing at his best is one of the best two way centers in the league.

We can't rely on Samuelsson staying healty. We need to get an option there and Zadorov is not that bad.

  9. I think the pp is too easy to read, it's like an open book. Tage need to find some new tools as a complement to the slapshot. Maybe unfair example, but looking att Kutcherov you never know where the puck will go until it leaves the blade. And there is no player that is really good in the "Hyman-area".

I really don't think they will sign him but that'd be good. Unless they can move some big contracts somehow I doubt they can or will afford him. I'm betting he goes to Calgary. Unless of course Vegas puts several players on LTIR and promises him a new tandem bike.

I don't think they can afford signing both Reinhard and Montour, but I think one of them will stay. Has it ever before happened that a team not sign their 50 goal scorer? It might also of course depend on how close to lord Stanley they get this year, if they win I think they are more up for big changes.

I've always thought Sam was good enough that he might have an outlier 90-point season in him at some point under the right circumstance. Not 50 goals though.

That's a $10M season. I think Sam should stay in Florida, but that team will have about $22M available to sign at least 10 players, including Sam and Montour.

I wonder how much of a discount he'll be willing to take.

Hope he signs a big contract with Panthers so we can send them a couple of prospects in exchange for Lundell.

I'm questioning heavily Adams decision to "see how it plays out" this season. Clearly change was needed behind the bench, as many of us here on Sabrespace were acutely aware of. Hell, even patient, smart-ass me started a thread to can Granato.

As more and more comments from people within the organization are made publicly, such as Adams "not good enough" and some of the players "we need to be pushed" or "practise was a joke", one thing is becoming abundantly clear, the commitment to winning was not given serious consideration, imho.

We are through the looking glass here people. For myself, I am actually a bit pissed these issues are coming to light. My love for the Sabres, like so many, is life long. To hear these sentiments spoken from inside, ya, I'm f'n pissed it was allowed to fester like this.

I can only imagine how dissapointed Adams must have been. He rewarded a coach after a good season and then when next season starts they are not ready to compete. And what to do then? I guess the timeline he had set as a GM allowed to watch and see how things develop. But of course he realize that next season will be his last as GM if development doesn't come. Still he doesn't fire Granato until after the season. To me it mens he has a huge amount of faith in the group of players and that he can get the complementary pieces and that they will end the draught next year.

  13. When thinking of how I would like the roster to be, there is not a spot there for Krebs except from as a 13th forward. I do not dislike him, he has done a good job, I just think the roster should be built up in a different way. I think there are teams and coaches that see him as a third line guy, but it is not with us.
