Pettersson needs to change team and he needs time of to get some distance to everything that happened in Canucks. I doubt he will reach 100 points again, but when he gets his spark back he will be a player that makes difference. Those skills are still there, someone just needs to help him to find the focus. My honest opinion.

They traded away a guy who was headed to free agency. They have no control at that point over where he signs. If a team is worried about that kind of stuff, they've got serious issues.
We need to point the criticism at a far more fun place,Carolina. I don't know if you're aware of the history there or not, but this board will enjoy any suffering that happens with that team.
No, I do not know, but Dundon seems to be a person that people have opinions about. It seems they have taken several steps back, even if they are in a playoff spot. Might be a retool coming. So in that case there seems to be something to be happy about. And Rantanen was as pissed of on Carolina as he was on Avs.

That's the least of your concerns when you're trying to improve your team. If you're legitimately concerned about a playoff matchup, you do exactly what they did and send him off to the other conference. This one is such a crazy fluke scenario that no one is ever going to plan for. Hell, there still no guarantee of a Dallas-Colorado matchup.
I just want to try to have a discussion for once where we don't have to inject the sabre fan depression. It's good for the heart.
No guarantees this year, but he is signing for eight years. I just know he was pissed and fans of hockey will witness an interesting battle. Senior Finnish hockey journalists compared the trade with how Boston traded Esposito in the 70s. But ofcourse the front office in Colorado did what they believed was the best thing to do.

Why is Colorado supposed to let Rantanen in on any trade plans?
To not make him pissed of and later same season have to meet him pissed off in the playoffs??

Carolina and Colorado negotiated about the deal behind Rantanens back. Carolina was the big losers in that trade as it seems and Rantanen is back in west to make sure Colorado doesn't get another cup. Karma.

This is a good extension, AAV is pretty much where I hoped it would be. So are the two years.

I can see why teams are interested in Peterka, but are there a reason why we would trade him?? He might deserve big money on his next contract, and there was talk about teams making an offersheet on him. However, that is not a reason to trade him.

Peterka definitely no, the Cozens trade is something I would consider.

Except from a few real NHLers, the Sabres during the tanking years were pretty much this years Rochester.

Do they think they are a better team than the standings shows? It is all bad luck? Obviously. Can someone tell them that they create their own luck and it is what you get when working hard. Lindy ffs??!!

Not the craziest idea but is there another way to get Dobson and keep Power?
I don't see any reason to keep Power if Dobson would sign a longer contract. Even if Novikov would not be ready as an top4 NHLer next season, understandable, there are much more stay at home LHD veterans to choose from.

The discussion that makes the best sense is to forego making trades at the deadline, especially by Adams, as what we will get back won’t help us in the near future. I also would like Greenway and Zuckerberg back.
I would be happy to trade Cozens or Samuelsson in the offseason, as well as some prospects, and even the likes of Power if the offer is right. And try to get back some glue players who play a more physical game.
if somehow we could procure a defensive defenseman who plays a physical game and a more intimidating forward who plays with physicality and can stand up to the most rugged players on other teams, those two steps alone would be a big boost to this team, imo.
Novikov is big, strong and currently second best +/-stats overall in AHL. He is a LHD but he will get the job done in a couple of years. A scenario I am thinking of this moment is a trade where we send Power to Islanders in exchange for Noah Dobson (RHD). We probably at least would have to send them a prospect or take a bad contract like Pageau in exchange.

Sounds like that is the plan. What the plan next season when they’re out of it in March?
Honestly I don’t disagree with Adams on this. We all know he needs league roster players. The problem is, he has a very hard getting these players who “want to be a Buffalo Sabre” and willing to buy in on whatever his plan is. This is a requirement for Adams.
It was a joke, I think a retool is needed. But making the right trades are difficult, unfortunately that is a position they have put themselves into. And trade deadline is usually not right time to do that for a team in Sabres position. Unless they want draftpicks in return. It sounds like they want hockeytrades though.

It is incredible. We have positioned ourselves as a last place team, that can’t sell in a seller’s market. We can’t sell because we are supposed to be in win now mode, yet we are one of the league’s worst teams. We can’t sell because player after player leaves here and excels, so we can’t even trust our own evaluations of our own players.
And, simultaneously we are loaded with young players and prospects and picks, but are paralyzed and can’t or won’t buy.
It is impossible to imagine a circumstance that more obviously screams for a change at the top of the hockey management team.
They just need to stay the course.

I rather would like to look at the teams in top and their defense. A team like Capitals were going down, then they added Thompson in net, and Chychrun and Roy on D. Carolina is a well coached machine with a playmaker like Aho and a big leader in Staal, but to me it is their defense that keeps them in a playoff position. Just as example. Otherwise they are not that much better than us.
There is a lot of talking of our offensive players like Cozens and Quinn, and I agree they have struggled, and they are a part of the teamdefense. Still, to me, the big reason we are where we are is that we don't have defenders good enough to defend. It is all on the GM.
Having a first line that produce is a important thing to have, and in the trade discussion, those who have played on first line recently are them I like to keep. A major retool is needed.

The scariest part of 7D is that Byram looks scatterbrained when with anyone aside Dahlin. Makes me concerned about Byram’s value
We need to trade one puckmoving D, and Byram is the one we should trade.

I think it still depends on the results from coming games. If they win all four, or even three of them, very little will happen. Probably we still will see Greenway moved to a contender. And I think they will sell high on Joker. Lafferty and NAK has been disappointments and Lafferty is the player I am most sure will be gone. I hope they value The Amerks success enough to keep NAK there.
If they lose coming games against Sjs and Habs Zucker will be gone also. Still hoping he returns next season.
Bigger moves will happen during offseason. If they happen, not that sure about it.

Canes with only their second win in February. They were desperate and it paid off. Sabres seemed slow. On to the next one.

Marner doesn't get much talk around here, and he is not a perfect player. He has a perceived lack of toughness and certainly size that many here want. But of all the players that MIGHT be available this offseason, I think he is the one that would help this team the most.
$13-$14m per year is really high. I don't think/know if 5 years, $62m would get it done (probably not, maybe 6 years, $80m is where he would want to start), but if that would get him to start listening, I would for sure continue those talks.
If Sabres want to be a serious team and eventually a contender we should try to get a player like Marner.
And I was surprised by how good twoway player he is when watching him in 4Nations.

The problem is the Ducks have played Zegras as a LW and he is on his second down year. If the Sabres want to trade for him and move him to centre then they can but I wouldn’t be giving up top assets to try that experiment.
If Marner hits UFA you can always throw a truckload of money at him. But how much is he worth? $13-14 million is too rich for my blood.
Tkachuk is a pipe dream to me. I do like the player but IF Ottawa were to move him it wouldn’t be to a division rival.
I think a lot depends on who we could play Zegras with. He would bring playmaking qualities that we need on powerplay. 5on5 he would not bring much improvement.
I would give Marner 13 million. But then we need to get Cozens or Powers' contract moved.

I see Zegras as the only realistic option as an upgrade on 2C. Tkachuk would be great, so would Mitch Marner. Both played great 4nations and could help the team take several steps forward, but I can not see them playing for Sabres. If we are talking centers named Elias, I would rather have the Boston Elias, even If none of them stood out at 4nations, and Lindholm has NMC.
Now move onto Pettersen...

Agree. I didn't write it with a trade for him in mind. It was just my general thaughts on Pettersson. The team that takes a chance on him and gives him some time to adjust will get one heck of a hockey player. Maybe overpriced, but still, there might be possibilities to get some salary retained depending on what Canucks get in return.
