And if you're right and he is Bjork 2.0 there is nothing particularly lost.  They had Bjork 1.0 up in the press box.

If you're wrong, then they are better off.

This was most likely a nothing move.  Have no issues with it.   And it has nothing to do w/ moves, or lack thereof, on D and in G.  So those complaining about it in that context are off-base.  Things that are unrelated even when one of them is frustrating remain unrelated.

Yes I agree it's a low risk pickup for Jost and hope that he finds an effective  role with the Sabres but I do remember thinking the same thing with Bjork when we first got him and that Granato could work some magic.  I heard Marty Biron speculate that this move could allow them to send Krebs down to Rochester to continue developing.

That said, would you rather have Bjork on the roster or Jost?  If Jost can turn it around under Granato then perfect and that puts pressure on the other forwards just like him to step it up.  If he can't then they can waive him just as easily as the next team.

Either way I bet his better than Bjork.

I hope so but with some of the comments I've read about Jost I'm worried that he'll be Bjork 2.0.  Maybe he'll see this as a last chance to make an impression in the NHL.  We will see.

  3. Always amazed at these snow events.  Take it easy to all those affected and stay safe.

I figure this must help put everything in perspective with the typical fall activities of cleaning up leaves and putting away the patio furniture, and finding the snow shovels.

  4. Instead of turning back the clocks at this time of year we need them to flip the calendar forward by a couple of months.  They seem to play their best hockey once they are almost guaranteed to be out of the playoffs.  How much does psychology play a role for this perennial losing team?

In the off season we expected one of Mittlestadt or Cozens to take a big step into the #2 center role this season.  I'm not willing to give up on either yet but the opportunity is there for one of them to take it.

Defensive depth.  Healthy the top 6 doesn't look bad but injuries sure show weakness in the depth.

Goaltending.  Common theme, year over year.  Will Comrie convince us soon that he's ready for a bigger role.  I heard someone mention him and Carter Hutton in the same sentence recently (hope not................but let's check his eyesight just in case).

  5. I figure Granato will move the guys around throughout the game.

In my opinion they should have thrown Hinostroza into one of the back to back games (Carolina / Tampa) just to give a set of fresh legs and energy.  Maybe he was holding him back for Vegas.  He's not a top line player but he is noticeable when he's playing well and can make a difference on a dead night like last game.

What's going on with Shane Wright?  It's looking like the Habs dodged a bullet.

Like Owen Power, he should have been sent back.

No shame in that, lots of great players went back for another year.  Teams are pretty careful with high draft pick egos with waiting though.  Good learning experience for him for the time spent with the team.  Will see.  Get him to the WJC at least to build confidence.

  7. Let Dahlin have another game if he needs it.  We need him playing well against Vegas.

Would also like to see Hinostroza back in for the next couple if we're keeping rotations in play.  He'll be fresh and makes a difference when he plays.

  8. At the end of the day, we can't win games without scoring.  I don't care if VO scores 5on5 vs PP.  We do need at least 1 goal to win any game.  If you sit him, who's bringing the goal(s)?  I do recall that he had great chemistry with Asplund for a while last season (if 5on5 is critical).

With Mittelstadt, he's had a lot of close "almost" goals this season.  I suspect that they will start going in for him soon (same as they did for Tage recently).

What we need is a healthy team.

Houser does not have an NHL contract. If he sees any time in Buffalo, it’s because the team is screwed.

which is why he found some playing time with the Sabres over the last two seasons, major injuries.  Hopefully we don't do that this year.

The Oilers are my second favorite team, so I've watched a lot of their games, so I'm familiar with Bear. Truth is, he isn't very good...that's why he's been traded twice. Would be have been an upgrade on Fitz or Pilut? Sure, I suppose, but not enough of an upgrade to make much of a difference, IMO.

Yes I agree.  I remember when he was a highly anticipated prospect for the Oilers but then getting to watch him play he was not great and why they eventually moved on.  Another change of scenery for him.

  11. As I read the thread I keep thinking about all the statements that Ryan Johnson won't sign with the Sabres because there's no room for him on the team.  Obviously doesn't fix the current situation with the immediate need on D but it does show that there's a great opportunity for him to sign with the Sabres and break into the NHL with a young up coming team.

That being said, I do like the Ethan Bear suggestion if he's available.  Carolina may be holding their depth too (important as demonstrated by the current situation here).
