I know that this is how they do it now, I'm sure he'll be a great player. Giving him 8.35 mil just 1.5 years after he played his first game as a Sabre, when the level of play I view him as having reached to date  is around that of a good #4D, is just jarring in principle

Played more 5on5 than any rookie since they’ve been charting it. Room for improvement = sure but he was 19 fkn years old.

Try to remember how Dahlin looked at 19 and how he looks now.

he had 35 points and was +10, couldn’t have been too bad.

I’ll choose to trust KA’s opinion over yours

This is Old Sabre Thinking. If the goal really is to make the playoffs and make some noise, the bar for an 18 year old to make the team should be very high. I wouldn't weigh training camp and preseason that high. I actually kind of trust KA with this one.

    Correct.

Have you watched any of the preseason. If so, you’d realize he’s been the Sabres best player in the preseason. If your goal is to make the playoffs, you put the best players in the lineup regardless of age. It’s all common sense. He’s not your normal 18 year old.

Fins are no joke. They're the real deal offensively. Our defense is no joke either, they to are the real deal. Our offense needs to figure it out, like this week, the clock is short to midnight. This coming game is critical imho.

Miami is playing well, but we’ve seen this before with Miami. As for Buffalo, it’s nice to see how the team plays with two really good guards.

Wow! That’s fascinating stuff. So Harvey was from Buffalo? (Yeah, can’t brag about that connection anymore)

Are you referring to the Zeppelin concert on the tour during which Robert Plant’s son drowned (seems like a few days or couple of weeks prior)? I had tickets to that concert. So sad.

Being the same age as U2 (I am basically saddled in the middle of the four), also being Irish from both parents, and growing up in Buffalo, I have always felt a kinship with the band. Music of my life. But something about their music often reminded me of my life in Buffalo. Can’t really explain it.

You’re going to be jealous about this French. I was at the U2 stage one show in 1980. They did open for another band but can’t remember their name??  It was their 3rd show ever in the states (boston and nyc days before). Memory is a bit vague but pretty sure they opened AND closed the show with I will follow. None of us knew Lennon was shot at that point, no social media etc.

fast forward to December 8th 2005, u2 is playing in Hartford ct. I’m with my wife in the first row outside the heart shaped walkway. The boys walk around and stop right in front of me to play 3 acoustic songs, literally 5 feet from us. Bono says, “25 years ago we were playing somewhere in a club the day John Lennon died.” I yelled “Buffalo, NY” and Bono said, “I think you’re right.” They proceeded to play 3 beatle songs.

VERY private.  He would rub my head and shush me when I tried to talk to him in church.  And who knows for how long Carmen was sick?  It might have been years during which he was caring for her and didn't give a damn about the team.  And, frankly, who cares?  She was his wife and it is his business (none of this directed at you, wookie, or even at anyone in this thread).

All we can do is hope that he's ok and that the family is ok.  That's kind of it, now, right?

Gilbert was/is awesome. He was very shy, especially at the beginning of his career, mostly due to his lack of English language skills. Later in life he’d do stuff like sing Elvis songs at games, so he really opened up. Had drinks with him at a bar once, with Rico when he was alive, what fun. Nice people.

Sometimes you meet you hero you come away feeling less than enthused. With Gilbert, he’s an even better person than a hockey player and that’s saying a ton.

    God bless you #11.

Why does it make me feel we are going to run 11-7 till Quinn is back? Is that the plan? Considering all the D, too? The 3rd scoring line invariably seems to amount to a spare parts line if we are seeking to maximize the top 6 + checking line

    Skinner - Thompson - Tuch

    Mittelstadt - Cozens - Peterka

    Girgensons - Krebs - Okposo

Greenway/Jost swap into line periodically on a rotational basis during games? VO scratch?

    Samuelsson - Dahlin

    Power - Clifton

    Lyubushkin - Jokiharju

Johnson or Stillman dressed as 7, subbing in to keep things fresh, other scratched?

3 goalies, one scratched makes 23

We aren’t keeping 3 goalies - Comrie will pass through waivers and play in rochester. 11-7 isn’t happening - Bryson will be sent to Rochester and either Rousek or Savoie will be active.

Tatar is still available and would make SO much sense that it invariably won’t happen

Ominous thought: is the plan to start the season with 12F, 8D, and 3G?

      Nope:

2G, 13F, 8D as the roster is presently constructed.

    I think they’d prefer 2G, 14F, 7D

    My dream lineup:

    Levi, Hart

dahlin, sammi, power, Clifton, Johnson, Boosh, stillman

tage, Tuch, skinner, middlestadt, cozens, Konencny, Tatar, Krebs, Peterka, greenway, jost, girgs, Okposo, savoie

joker and Oloffson traded away, Tatar signed UFA, Hart, konecny traded for

I guess I should have added traded for and signed to extensions. That was what I was thinking.

There is one thing here I feel a need to comment on and that's how much are you thinking we have to pay Quinn/Peterka? They haven't done much of anything yet. I see no cap problem. We currently have over 6 million left. We trade VO we have more than enough to cover both salaries. Next year we no longer have Johnson's money. The cap is projected to go up roughly 5 million. Kyle and Zemgus are gone. Worst case we ditch Casey and replace him with Kulich's rookie contract. I see no problem at all.

Is there a team that would trade for VO at this point and his 4.8m cap hit?? Thinking he’d have to be included in a bigger trade for a Pesce/Hellebuyck/Gibson type
