  1. I had a thought: why call timeout?  Force the Broncos to run on the field and kick it in a hurry?  They didn't have any timeouts and we didn't need to watch another interception.

I’m with ya on firing everyone (coaching staff).  Josh did suck tonight.  But….

The D kept Buffalo in the game.  The Bills should’ve been in no position to win at the end.  The D played very well tonight.  6 points given up on 4 turnovers?  Denver midway through the 4th had a starting field position at their 42?

    Season is over.  😞

and that hail mary toss in the first half, I thought it was meant to be.

    This is blatantly false.

You play the hot hand and the match up. Should your most talented play the most? Sure, but lots of times that isn't the best plan. You coach, and play people, to the game and the situation.

Good idea. After carefully reviewing all the players, sitting down with the coaching staff in the preseason, going through the schedule, and designing a lineup that best matches up against the opponent. Then, as the season progresses, barring injuries, play your hot players more. It's easier than keeping the best players and then game planning vs your opponent based on the type of talent on hand.

Having an identity since Granato and Adams took over is not a Sabre problem in the slightest.

They want 3 lines of high-skill pace-pushing forwards and mobile defencemen who close on attackers quickly and flip the ice effectively. They want their team to play the game faster than you do and be skilled enough to capitalize on the breakdowns their pace causes. They actively seek out players who can play that way.

Playing to their identity has been a problem. When the Sabres are moving their feet, they’re good, when they stop skating, they aren’t.

Then the question remains, why are Okposo, VO, Greenway (who they traded for) ,and Girgensons still on the team - high skill?

That's the problem imo. There's still too much shuffling and movement all over the roster. I think it's well past time they all had clearly defined roles and positions and barring a massive amount of injuries (where you have no choice but to juggle) they need to be slotted in those spots and expected to do those jobs. If they dont' they get replaced.

We have, to this point in time, done Cozens a disservice by giving him too many different linemates and sometimes inferior ones. They seem to have gone to great lengths to helps Mitts find his place, but with Cozens it's almost like they expect him to carry whoever they toss out with him.

I see your point, but in the past 12 years no playoffs.  Pick a way you want to play and design your players and lines that way.   You want to score, get speed, and stick talent.  If you want balance then adjust the lines that way.  Make a decision and live with it.  Seems like both Buffalo franchises are lacking a direction.  Ask yourself, when you play a Buffalo NHL or NFL team, what do you expect to see?  A lot of times - it is "I don't know".  Wonder what is common between them....

  5. It is kind of scary with all the comments from the GM and coaches that they don't know the problem with the offense.  Hurry up vs slow down?  It gives the appearance that they do not know what they are doing and don't have a plan.  Someone from SB Nation broke down the plays from the last game, and G Davis was open in most of his pass patterns.  From that detail and breakdown, why isn't Josh seeing this?  Does he have a progression of reads?  Are they nervous about interceptions?  It makes you wonder how the offensive game plays and plans are designed.  Where are the coaches if a sports writer can see this from film?  Is the staff at 1 Bills Drive playing possum?  Do they have a talent problem?  It doesn't appear to be if receivers are open and the quarterback can make every throw.  What about the run game and how to implement a plan that includes running the ball at different times and enough times for a running back to get in a rhythm?  How about using the short passing game as a running play?  Why can't you look at the tapes of when you were successful in the first half of games?  What did you do?  What sequence of plays?    What was the defense giving you?  Does the staff lack flexibility?  Did they decide at the beginning of the year this is our plan (to turn the offense into poop) and we are not modifying it no matter what!

It is not rocket science, but they are making it seem that way.

  6. Bills need to do a better job of mixing in more run plays when in the no-huddle.  It's good to see the youngsters playing well on defense.  It's good to see different receivers getting involved.  Time management/calling time-outs still seems to be an issue with the coaching staff.  I saw Diggs slacking on several plays, not even moving off the line when he wasn't involved in the play - I wouldn't say I like that effort; it sends a wrong message to his teammates and makes it easier for the opponent to play defense.

He did.  It happens about once every 4 games that he has one that everybody in the building expected him to catch.  Considering the targets he gets and that it seems to happen weekly for the 2nd and 3rd targets on the squad, pretty sure Allen isn't picking a new favorite just yet.  😉

    It happened again.

IMO, Sabres are in a weird place right now.  They are TRYING to play D better and do at times, but seemingly lose focus on that at other times and try to go back to the way they played most of last year.  However, it seems to be hurting them on both ends...they aren't fully committed to playing Team D all the time, yet they are focused ENOUGH that is also seems to be hurting them offensively and they aren't generating the chances they usually do either. Sometimes it seems like a few players are trying to play defensively while the others out there are trying to play offensively and they aren't on the same page as a group of 5 and seem disjointed with what they are trying to accomplish. So they end up kinda "meh" at both ends of the ice for much of the game.

The PK has been fantastic tho, so that is one plus.  The PP not so much.  Yes they did score a PP goal yesterday but also gave up 2 shorthanded breakaways and a few other good chances...like what are you doing?

My bet is they figure it out at some point and when they do start rolling...just hoping that doesn't take til January and we have a mountain to climb.

The question is, can the zebra change its stripes?  Answer - you can when you change the environment.

Brind'Amour was an NHL Assistant Coach for 7 years before becoming an NHL HC.

Peca has been HC in a 2nd tier junior league for 2 years, an NHL player development coach for half a season, and an AHL Assistant Coach for 2 seasons, and now an actual NHL job as an Assistant Coach this season.

Do you honestly think that those two resumes of experience look equivalent?

I believe Peca is a more "rounded" candidate based on his past experiences, so yes I believe he would be successful.

  10. When comparing Peca's coaching history to Rod Brind'Amour's, It took Rod 7 years in the Hurricanes organization before he became head coach.  Starting in 2012, Michael has spent 2 years with Jr. Sabers and was coach of the year, head coach of the Major Jr. Sabers, and GM of hockey ops for Jr. Sabres.  Worked as Capitals player development coach and Amerks assistant coach.  As we all know, in 2023, he is now with the Rangers as a bench coach.

Based on Rod the Bod's history and Peca's I believe he is ready to make that jump to HC in the NHL.

So the question is, what if the losing keeps continuing for another 4-5 games? Then what? I know it’s early but you don’t want to dig a big hole early in the season.

Not sure who said it on NHL Network Sirius Radio, but they mentioned maybe it's time for a more "seasoned" coach for the Sabres.  DG is a good development guy but it's time for this team to win.
