The Sabres are the only team in NHL history to win 10 games in a row and miss the playoffs (Housley's second).  That season is also the highest winning percentage at Thanksgiving for a team that missed the playoffs after The Big Lockout.

Just doing the mental computation: even if the Sabres win 10 in a row, they are likely to still be about 4 points out of a playoff spot.

Sabers are on pace for 79  points this year.  To hit 90 points, you would need to average 1.33 points a night.  With a 15-game win streak, you would need 1.33 to hit 100.  It's time to move the coach and GM.  Waiting does not benefit the new staff.

It's a challenging balancing act between seeing what the young prospects are capable of and getting your veterans ready. As it turned out, Benson earned the roster spot he got. It also became apparent that Savoie wasn't quite ready for the higher league. Will Kulich be ready for the NHL next year? I'm not sure. How many additional players will be brought in from the market or trades next year? Maybe a couple? In my opinion, we desperately need another younger Okposo type of player added to the roster. It seems to me that this roster is mostly set with a couple of additions coming from the outside. A couple of Greenway and Clifton type players would be good additions.

Need to add "winners", stanley cup pedigree, not just any veteran.  Ones that have been thru the war and know what it takes...

That is true but not a because of Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen. The Kansas City Chiefs have better ownership in the Hunt Family than the Buffalo Bills with the Pegula family that is the huge difference. I think Josh Allen would have won multiple Super Bowls under the Hunt Family ownership in Kansas City Chiefs. Buffalo Bills fans are right now a little slow to pick up that Terry Pegula isn’t great as owner of the Buffalo Bills either. I don’t think the Buffalo Bills or Buffalo Sabres are ever winning with Terry Pegula as owner he is the same bumbling cheap owner of the Bills as he is with the Sabres. Josh Allen is masking a lot of Terry Pegula ownership flaws. But just because Josh Allen can mask flaws he can’t get it to a Super Bowl championship team here. I have no doubt Josh Allen wins a Super Bowl championship just not in Buffalo unfortunately. At some point Josh Allen is going to want out. Terry Pegula refuses to spend the money wisely like the Hunt Family because he just not that smart of a person. Von Miller was a terrible waste of money in my opinion. Go Bills! Let’s Go Buffalo

Question - how many NFL teams would you trade Beane/McDermott for (GM/ Coach )   - Kansas City then......

Why would you think about moving him ?

    Just a thought.

    What?

Are you seriously suggesting trading JA?

If so -- this might be the dumbest post in the history of this board.

    Might be, just a thought.

The real disappointing part to me is how bad the receivers are with their drops. We barely get any magical catches. It makes Josh look a lot worse than he really is.

im glad we fired Dorsey and salvaged the season.  Night and day difference

the defense was decimated with injuries so it’s hard to be hard on them. But Miller is washed and the zone collapses against good teams and we don’t adjust. Would hope we learned by now but we didn’t.

then out of nowhere our special teams just fell off a cliff. Can’t be having that.

I don’t know how you fix that with the cap.

Get Younger and cheaper.  Try to move the large contracts (if you can) and renegotiate the others - no other options.  This happens when you go "all in to win it," and it doesn't work.

I wonder what the market is for Josh Allen?  How many picks is he worth?

Kelce started off as a QB before switching to TE and that experience is invaluable to his ability to make pre and post snap reads of the defense. He understands the “why” of what a defense is trying to do and that’s half the battle. Beasley had the same ability and Allen really misses that element.

Memory Jogger - Jay Riemersma played QB at Michigan and switched to TE.

I blame Bass. You win by making 40 yard field goals when that's what you've been hired to do. Yes it was windy but he' s not a rookie. The snap and hold were fine. Winners make those. I'm sure there will be auditions at camp for place kicker next season.

It is easy to point fingers at the last offensive play.  It is harder to look at the game as a whole and see that many plays were botched.  It should have never been left up to the kicker.  Who relies on a kicker who is 2-6 from that distance in the playoffs?  The mindset should have been TD on that last drive.  There are a lot of players and coaches to blame.  Bring in Bill.

This team endured an insane amount of injuries.  They fought to the end.  I love being a Bills fan.  But, please, win it all before I die.

I don't blame Bass.  The offensive game plan was designed to protect the defense, which was short-handed.  It almost worked.  To win championships, you can not drop passes.  The Bills had their chances, but couldn't make the plays.  Enjoyed the roller coaster season and can't wait to next year.  My question, what happened to the defensive line?

LOL,  when judging future talent, you guys are good!  You know who will make it, how good they will be, and how many Stanley Cups they will win...Can you suggest to me specific numbers for my lottery ticket tonight?

While this is all true who is going to work for Adams, or Terry for that matter?

Look up the group of guys Vegas and Seattle teams and see who they hired to run their hockey operations and coach their teams.  Now look at the Sabres.  It starts there.

In a way, it's like watching those cooking, best chef reality shows.  One I watched all had the same ingredients but different people designing and cooking the food.  the results varied from good to bad.

I'm in Florida right now visiting relatives....a LOT of talk among my relatives here and other people we meet about the game.

They are preparing excuses already for the loss.....some version of "well, its not really fair with the injuries we have for this game"  Of course they don't want to even hear about the Bills missing Milano or Tre White for the while year who just got hurt earlier in the season.

LOL - remember, the fans don't play the game, or your relatives or other people

Man, do they ever. I know it's been fun to dunk on them because, well, they're the Patriots. But that team that the Bills played on Sunday is far from a bad NFL team. Their defense, for one, is a fooking problem. That's a nasty unit.

    Onward!

Bills have played against 4 top 10 defenses in the last six games.  The only two teams not in the top ten were the Eagles and the Chargers.

You just names 3 things we do not have.   As for playing hard, forget it.  They should play all their games on the road, maybe that will help them stay focused for games.

Sacrifice.  Players need to do what needs to be done.  Skating around in circles is easier than digging in the corner to get the puck.  It is easy to pass the puck up the boards to a covered/checked teammate.  Playing hot potato with the puck is easier than controlling it.  Standing 10 feet away from the net is easier than in front of it.   It is easy not to try and block a shot.  It is easy to skate back and allow the other team to skate into the zone.  It is easy to shoot the puck and not look where it is going.  Taking time off from playing is easy when you know your teammates don't have the same interest.  It is easy for the coach to play the players with the big contracts and longevity with the team.  It is easy for a GM to sit back and put a team together with just prospects.  It is easy for an owner to hire friends or give a person their first shot at a job.  It is easy not to call out/challenge teammates in the locker room on how they are playing.  Letting the whole thing play out this year rather than doing something now is easier.  This Sabres team is easy to play against.

This is what I don’t understand. I know you played a lot of hockey. These are all obviously hockey player. Why do they refuse to play like a hockey team? They must know what’s not working. They must know they aren’t as strong. The only logical answer to me is they are scared. That’s not a knock, I’ve been scared plenty of times playing hockey. But you either play through it and go to the tough spots or you refuse to adapt. Our players have refused to adapt for years. It’s unhockeylike. One of the few things that makes sense is fear. They play like a team that knows they’re outsized and weaker every night. They don’t want to finish checks because someone else might finish a check on them. Losing is more acceptable than winning through punishment.

Sounds Like George Pickens.  I wouldn't want to play on a team with that attitude.  Afraid? Don't want to get hurt?  Not much of a team player.  You might have hit the nail on the head.  A bunch or a few players not wanting to do the dirty work could cause a room or team issue.  You don't have my back, and I don't have yours...

This could explain the lack of consistency.

I honestly tried to stand behind Granato and wanted them to give him a chance with a full line-up but after last night I've changed my mind.

No longer can an assistant coach be a sacrificial lamb, the head coach needs to go

we are now seeing regression across the board, defence that borders on keystone cops, and effort that only seems to show up against the top clubs in the league.

I imagine they are going to play well the next few games vs the Leafs, Rangers and Boston and then regress back to form vs Columbus on the 30th

If I was Adams, I would have a long hard look at myself to fully realize my role in the debacle of the 23/24 season.  From not bringing in a Vet Goalie, to not replacing Quinn externally and only signing 2 bottom pair defenders in Free Agency. I would learn from this and then go fire my coach and put Appert in as an Interm coach.

No matter how well they do to end the year, you go out and hire the best coach available...you will have to hope that either Brind'Amour and / or Cooper are available to hire.  I do want to believe brining in RB'M was the goal from the onset but we will see

Over the holidays, I talk to every team in the league that has a legit top 4 dman available and you pay the price using draft picks, prospects and roster players.

Seth's record 96-79, GF 657, GA 711.  I'm not too fond of GA higher than GF.

I don't know the right answer.

It looks increasingly clear that if DG remains as HC, they will limp to yet another bottom-7 finish, with the stink of losing becoming further ingrained among the new core and the fan base becoming increasingly apathetic (if not hostile).

A real NHL team wouldn't just sit back and let that happen without firing the HC.

OTOH, firing yet another coach does seem like it would increase the apparent disinterest among experienced, accomplished NHL coaches/GMs in coming here.

What a great idea the tank was.

Great thought.  Do you plug the hole in a sinking ship and try to save it, or let it sink?
