Separating everything is part of him trying to sell team. He has told people he has lost 300 million, this was a couple of years ago so more now, since he purchased Sabres. There is not a path to breaking even in the long term right now. Even if rink is renovated or new one built he will not be able to raise prices high enough to pay for it. The lack of Corporations in Buffalo removes a huge revenue stream most other teams have. Buffalo has amongst the lowest per game revenue in the league.

With Kim out of picture he might want to reduce his responsibilities to just the Bills and sell the Sabres.

If I acquired a restaurant and then proceeded to serve the worst spoiled and rotten food imaginable I'd probably lose a lot of money as well.

I'm quite sure the league would have no problem with the Sabres moving to Houston (or Atlanta or some other U.S. market) but I also see no reason to think this is going to happen.

I think if a team is to be sold (again, no reason to think that) it is more likely to be the Bills, as Terry's a hockey fan.

Who is the single most powerful owner in the entire league?

    Where is he from?

Yeah, the Sabres will be allowed to move on the 10th of Never.

Ron ("Judas") MacLean recently made comments about Don Cherry's departure from the amazing decades-long feature "Coach's Corner" on HNIC. In my view, MacLean betrayed Cherry by not sticking up for him, and apparently still doesn't to this day. But he's still there and Cherry isn't. https://www.bladeofsteel.com/Ron-Maclean-breaks-his-silence-on-how-Coaches-Corner-came-to-an-end-267550

If a guy saves my job on multiple occasions I'm standing by him for anything short of pulling an OJ and even then I'd have to think about it.

I was blessed to be at RJ night, and I saw a group of players that really understood what he meant to the franchise and community. They still talk about the impact of that night. It is one of the things that drive them. That night was the first time the arena was so full, and so full of life, in so many years.

These players did not commit the crime that was the quality of hockey Rick saw in his last years, but I know they will absolve it this year and will be thinking about him the whole time

I am tearing up just thinking of the final words of his speech that night: "I love you!" I have been to many sporting events in my life but that night was by far the greatest.

  5. I don't want to be negative but when the plan is to hope Levi is essentially a generational level talent in being able to go straight from college (as an underclassmen no less) to the NHL while splitting games with a guy who is slightly better than David Ayers and one of the worst goalies in the entire league who has shown zero signs he will ever figure it out that doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

His success is a big part because of the Boston system.  We didn't let Ulmark walk, he chose to walk.  And who could blame him picking Boston over Buffalo??

Small sample size BUT it is alarming

Worrying about playoff performance is a problem I would love to have.

  7. The problem with goaltending is that the position is so volatile and consistent goalies are incredibly hard to find. For example: in 5 years Jordan Binnington went from Stanley Cup winning hero to albatross who may soon be out of the league. Bob got a gigantic contract and besides the last playoff round has generally stunk out the joint and he was seen as a top 5 guy at the time signed. Giving up legit assets for a goalie is incredibly risky and I can understand why KA is very hesitant to do so.

Sorry you are right... keep forgetting where that line is... We pass it on the way to my wife's friends house... and have stopped in a few times to see music... we live in northern westchester near putnam line off 684... ps I still play hockey in Brewster...  do you play?

No, don't have an athletic bone in my body. The Brewster Ice Arena is literally in the middle of nowhere but can lay claim to hosting the only "pro" team to ever play in Putnam: The FPHL's Brewster Bulldogs.

  9. If any of you are in the NYC area there's a place on 23rd and 8th called Lions, Tigers and Squares that sell authentic Detroit style pizza. One interesting thing they have is the Mustard Pie which has mustard instead of tomato sauce with corned beef and sauerkraut (essentially a reuben in pizza form).

Went to Paramore (wife’s favorite) this past Saturday and saw the Gaslight Anthem (my favorite) earlier in the year.

I Saw Gaslight Anthem open up for The Misfits last week at Pru Center. Sitting upstairs the vocal mixing was awful and you could barely make out even stage banter. The Misfits set was much better as the crowd sang along with every song and served as a de facto sound system.

The approach that the GM has taken has been consistent in adhering to his strategy of mostly building from within. In three years, he has taken a mocked franchise noted for its systemic incompetence and turned it around. The Sabres are now considered one of the emerging teams in the league. In this case being steadfast in adhering to his rebuilding strategy has been a success. KA is a prudent and judicious manager. He has steered this woebegone franchise in the right direction.

The notion that he has been unwilling to make significant moves belies what he has actually done. He dealt the old core and got back a good return on players who  were going to be UFA's in a year. The Jack trade helped Vegas win the Cup and also accelerated our rebuild. He had young players on the roster who successfully ended up playing higher roles. Those were significant moves that transformed this flailing team.

He was forced to make those moves and had no choice in the matter.
