It hit the breaking point with the medical staff of the Sabres. Jack's Doctor's were correct about the surgery Jack wanted for his neck and the Sabres medical staff was wrong. Jack lost faith in the the teams medical staff and that severs any remaining goodwill with the organization. I liken it to the Lindros Philly situation with Eric's concussion issues. He didn't feel he was ready to return to the lineup while the Flyers medical staff said he was. Once a player loses faith with something so important to their career, the relationship is over.
The vast majority of teams agreed with our doctors, which is why there were so few suitors for a trade to get a player of that caliber.

I for one can't wait for an entire offseason of the dogshit hockey media shitting all over us like a Taco Bell toilet and rubbing our noses in it with cackling glee.

I do remember Weave/PA/ink not being completely enamored with Eichel before things spoiled, but as far as everyone else goes, it's funny how many people apparently saw through him (here, hf, twitter, this sentiment has been quite widespread over the last 2 years) and didn't really like him considering the sentiments I vividly recall being more or less universal back then. For whatever reason most of that stuff was just a well-kept secret I guess
And conversely all the fans of opposing teams who used to ***** on the guy as "GM Jack" and a spoiled brat who was handed everything without earning it who now lionize the guy for sticking it to those mean no good Sabres.

Storytime: I was a longtime Isles STH and sat with a group of friends that included a friend who is in the hockey industry (when the Isles commissioned a 50th anniversary book he was one of the people who was interviewed, many years back he actually did pbp for the Bingo Whalers) primarily at the youth level. The first year at Barclays he tells me that Jack is (and I quote) "Dumber than a bag of rocks" and he proceeds to tell me a story of him in a youth tournament doing something that was a very serious and immature breech of etiquette (don't remember the exact details as this was close to a decade back) and he actually went up to him to explain to him what he had done wrong. The point I wish to make isn't just that Jack had Lindros levels of immaturity and that this was obvious to anyone who knew him, it's that the Sabres had to know this as well. If you know this your primary objective in roster building should be to get numerous high character vets to make sure that the kid you are building your franchise around will grow and mature. You need a competent head coach with a progressive mindset. So what did GMTM do? Goes out and acquires Evander Kane at the draft before the deadline and hires Hockey Barry Switzer Dan Abysmal as the coach which helped lead to a hockey version of Love Canal. Jack had obvious immaturity issues but it was the job of the organization to put him in a position to grow and mature and they failed miserably.

The other good argument against UFO's is the idea these beings could create this insane technology yet keep crashing on Earth.

Jeez
Florida has too many lunks, they better not win this cup. How the hell did they get here with so many garbage players
Every time you bring this topic up it reminds me of how conflicted I am about Matt Martin: A no talent lunk who threw the cheap hit that caused the neck injury to Jack but also the son in law of just about my biggest childhood sports hero.

If you really wanted to search for an "antichrist" figure in Sabres hockey, it is hard think of someone fitting that image better than Terry Pegula
The Rigas Family.

I remember noted asshat Jamie Benn driving Jack head first into the boards and thinking it was a miracle he didn't end up in a wheelchair.

The most amusing bit of evidence I encouter against the tank nowadays is how ridiculous guys like sneaky Joe or jeremy sound having to explicitly add to every discussion on the topic a disclaimer of how objectively correct they were to support it and how they definitely do not regret that part of the strategy, just every other possible facet of the rebuild that can in theory be judged
And the fact that this insistence is increasing in its tone of quiet desperation and faux certainty over time. Because we all know that the nature of real Truth is that over time, it needs to be MORE forcefully asserted, and its opposition more isolated/mocked/expunged from reasonable debate, made into caricatures to be derided, lest it be lost forever. Definitely how truth works, rather than the exact opposite of the truth
Truth definitely doesn't entrench with time, settle calmly into what is obvious to any good faith observer, it needs frantic and fervent zealots to police discourse on the topic to make sure we all know that the tank was good actually
No this pattern definitely doesn't mirror to other contentious topics
IMO the grandaddy of all the mistakes made by PSE was hiring a nasty piece of work like Tim Murray. The man was a perfect blend of arrogant and stupid, convinced he was always the smartest man in the room when in fact the exact opposite was true. Virtually everyone in the sport reveled in his complete and utter failure as he was one of the most obnoxious and least likeable people you could ever possibly imagine.

At least we get the consolation of seeing all the obnoxious Heiskenen fans on HF get to eat giant bags of *****.

I’m glad someone brought your first sentence up. All 6th round picks are not created equal.
The rest of the list, as usual, is spot on as well.
He traded it STRAIGHT UP WITH ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ADDITIONAL ADDED. It was the smooth brain move to end all smooth brain moves.

Unfortunately no. Murray was worse. Murray botched the rebuild in many ways and he did not know enough about the players he was acquiring.
Botterill made mistakes in Buffalo but he is still in the NHL as AGM for Seattle. He has a shot at the Pittsburgh GM job because he is considered a very bright guy that others in the league are willing to work with.
Murray is working midnight shift and weekends at the 7-11 in Shawville, Quebec.
The "very bright guy" once swapped the first pick of the 6th round straight up for a future 6th round pick which from a purely logical aspect is just about the dumbest trade that has ever been made.

People today don't understand that at the time state loyalty superceded national loyalty. Perfect example is that the dead of Gettysburg are buried in plots by state. It was originally proposed to bury all the dead with no regard for which state they were from but this was shot down immediately.
