Dahlin isn't  having a great year (but he has been playing better that last 2 weeks).  He currently isn't in the discussion for the Norris.  He isn't leading the team, carrying it on his back to wins game after game. He isn't dropping the gloves.  But yet, he seems to be more 'likeable' to me as I watch him play.

Not likeable as in "he is our superstar so we have to like him" but more as in  "I like his play even when he is having a bad game and just is someone I am glad is on this team/in the city of Buffalo" kinda way.

I couldn’t care less about what the rest of the league thinks, or his contention for personal accolades/trophies. I simply could not care less about that kind of crap. I never care about that stuff. I care about what he’s doing for the team I follow. And I think Dahlin is doing fine. No issue with him.

I wanted this kid to become a bit more like Pronger due to his size. It is not in his DNA to play that way. However, some push back will get him some room, respect and confidence.

Dahlin doesn’t drop the mitts but he engages in scrums, hits hard and will retaliate if someone wrongs him or a teammate. Power needs to ramp this up.

    This is true.
I think Power will get there. I really do. I think he’ll add a little pushback and use his weight to his advantage as he ages. I’m not in the least bit worried about Power.

  3. Interesting how height of a player should automatically mean the level of snarl or grit or sandpaper of a player. 🤔

I guess that perceived and expected concept will never go away.

There are a bunch of players that are under 5’ 11” that played and play with a boatload of snarl grit and sandpaper. There are a bunch of players that are over 6’ 2” that do not/did not.

I think the proportionality of height and how “mean” they play… Is outdated and very inaccurate. It should die a proper death just like the goon concept died. Although some like to hang onto it wishing for old times. Old times it will never ever ever return again. I remember those times very well… And they were exciting… But they are dead now. As much as one clenches their fists, it’s not returning.

I think… no.. I know you are reading what he said, wrong.

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Levi could eventually be the best goalie for the Sabres since the Sabres had Miller. And it’s also not beyond the realm of possibility that Levi could eventually be the best goalie for the Sabres since the Sabres had Hasek. Pretty straight forward IMO.

This is a comment I can get behind. With that said, some clarifications:

GMKA was hired in June 2020, so he’s only been around for three seasons leading up to this year.
Granato was hired in interim in March 2021. Due to the Krueger effect and due to how much time left in the season (a few weeks at most), I’m willing to absolve the rest of 2021 from his record. That means he’s had 2+ years on a team that everyone knew was in another rebuild (Nov 2021 was the Eichel trade/reset). So he has been handed the youngest team in the league in back to back years.  But that’s two years and not four years as you said.

To your specifics (thank you), we suck at face offs. Is that a coaching issue or an issue with drafting and development?  Personally, I don’t hold this against the head coach.

The PP. This can potentially be pinned on coaching, but the Sabres were top five last year. It has only been six weeks and it’s a long season. It’s too early to pin this on coaching, and oh by the way…the PK has dramatically improved from last year. That should be taken into account.

Compete level of defenders? Sounds like roster construction over coaching.  Compete level forwards? My first instinct is to point out that the GM iced the youngest team in the league (again). Can you really tie this to coaching? Perhaps, but I’m not willing to assume DG is only a developmental coach because he has been given a bunch of guys who legally can’t drink and aren’t succeeding against veteran teams.

    Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🦃🦃

Well said. I agree with a lot of what you said.
So, what exactly do you blame DG for? What do you lay directly at the feet of DG only?

I am being sarcastic....but that being said, I cannot help but wonder why he projects so much 'weakness' on the ice with his balance and ability to stay vertical when engaged in any physical contact.  If he's stronger, than I don't see it at all.

Once he loses a tooth from a puck to the face, and gets another year or so of experience, he’ll start pushing over Ennis types. You just wait and seeeee!
