I liked Ruff back in the day, thought he was a great HC but he needed to go when he did as i feel he lost the room. He hasn't really been all that great since leaving the Sabres and we picked him over 2 head coaches who actually won a Stanley Cup in Gallant and Berube. So what I'm gathering from the talking heads on the radio is that they don't believe he's a Stanley Cup winning HC but a HC who will come in, demand respect, get the kids up and running and then Seth Appert will take over in 2 years. If he's not a Stanley Cup contending HC why the hell did we bring him in here? Wasn't the goal to not only win 1 Stanley cup but, multiple years? Now the standard is to get tough and maybe make the playoffs? This organization is so trash they have to use nostalgia to bring people in to this arena and this will be all the 50-60 year olds wet dream seeing a former player/HC and now returning HC come back yet again and we'll wait way too long to fire him when he fails because "Buffalo legend".

How is that obvious? You've never worked with people terrible at their jobs with 30-50 years of experience? You must be truly blessed. Sports especialy are riddled with retreads that get job after job despite disappointing results. Jeff fisher coached for 22 years and made the playoffs 6 times. Lindy made 11 playoffs in 23 seasons.

Barry Trotz made 14 playoffs in 23 years and won a cup
Quenneville made 20 out of 25
Hitchcock is 14 out of 22
Tortorella is 12 out of 22

The list goes on. Lindy has the 2nd lowest winning percentage behind Paul Maurice of coaches in the top 10 games coached (Lindy is 4th in total games).

I just don't see how you can get amped about a guy who has only had 2 seasons with a winning record out of the last 8 years. once he was fired from the Stars they've become a perennial playoff team and are a cup favorite this year.

I'm sorry, where is the contract info? Is he behind the bench? My questions were specific.

His contract is not available.  Yes, he stands behind the bench during games.   He works directly for Laviolette, the HC.  He coaches forwards. He wears nice suits too.

Different coaching philosophy styles for sure. Lindy is a solid veteran coach, to deny that is ridiculous. But I hear you, and many others, that heavily question if he's "the right coach" to go on a cup run. I have faith in Lindy, his style is indeed accountability. Imho.

Maybe he can get us into and competitive in the playoffs,  PLUS put his bright young successor on his staff to finish the job if/when he gets stale.   Then he can go up to an executive level job after that and simply make sure no more stupid stuff happens ever again.

The bar in Buffalo is so low its pathetic

Gallant has been .600+ 4 times in his past 7 years as head coach, 7 straight playoff years.

I just want to know that Adam’s reached out to him and a few others and had serious talks with them.

I like Ruff, always have, I hope he gets us there again.

Welp.  Let’s see how it rolls…..

KA has a career riding on this.  If Lindy fails I don’t see KA working as a GM in the NHL again.

Could be that Gallant/Berube and others did not want it, or didn’t want to talk, or they like Lindy better based on interviews.   I hope it’s the later.

I’m interested in seeing how much a one trick pony fetches on the open market.

There may be a place that he fits.  He was a 7th rounder that could score some goals.  He had 20 three times, one in only 56 games.

Not a two way player but this year he tightened up his game to match the “defensively responsible “ system that Granato said he put in, that Adams emphatically said “never changed”.

They made the playoffs despite being a -57 in point differential in 2017, one of the worst marks ever.  The following season, his plan at QB fell apart 2 weeks into the season and their offense half-way through being among the worst since the '78 rules changes to favor passing.  He was definitely not  an out of the box type HC.

He's learned and I'm not going to belabor it any further.  The Sabres, OTOH, need an experienced coach, I think most can agree, who doesn't need to learn on the job.

The Sabres need an experienced coach for many reasons.

They also need the results McD got.  All your caveats on McDermotts accomplishments are immaterial.

That's my thought on Sullivan as well. You can thrive with a players coach in a strong culture like that. Not sure how he'd do in this environment so I'd prefer the hard ass as well.

One must also remember that so called hard ass coaches are not hard ass all the time. The good ones take it up and down as appropriate and they reward effort as well. There are many examples of guys who played with hard ***** and have nothing but nice things to say about them.

Gallant is known as a hard ass and as a players coach.

it was dumb to switch to home team wearing colors instead of whites. The original reason was to see the different colors of each team when you play them at home....now it's road teams wearing white. it needs to go back

Agree.  And I like white jerseys better anyway.

Well, with a week going by since DG's termination, I'm inclined to think that KA's first choice isn't one of the guys who is currently available (i.e. Lindy, Gallant, Berube) -- although it's certainly possible that KA called one or more of them and got turned down.

Still, it seems more likely that his first choice is someone who is currently coaching in the playoffs, and he needs to wait for that guy's team to get bounced.

It would sure be nice if someone in WNY sports media had some info for us.

Still too early to make that determination.

McDermott's "Trust the Process" mantra from day 1 was designed to win over a veteran locker room without having the credibility as a NFL coach.  It was thin and those first two seasons were an example of what not to do.  He learned on the job a lot those years, notably doing a mea culpa with some QB decisions in 2017.

The Sabres being clearly younger require more than that for a HC.  Someone who is an effective motivator that puts them into a position to succeed.  And the GM who is in overall control (unlike with the Bills) has to adapt to the situation.

It was so “thin” he made the playoffs the first year, while starting a rebuild, and with Tyrod Taylor at QB.

You could easily put a positive spin on his work.  He ended a 17 year drought and helped turn Buffalo into a perennial contender and a place where  players want to play.

The comments to me about the new coach are kind of revealing.  To me, it seems that they are actually being the opposite of accountable by blaming Donnie indirectly by talking about needing accountability and needing to be pushed harder by the coach.  This, in essence, is blaming it on the coach and not actually holding yourself accountable.

Yes. If Adams was going to tell them anything, it should have been that they were partly responsible and they need to learn from this and get more serious about practice and pre game preparation.

And by Sabres you mean Adams because I don’t see many of the current lot laying out anyone ever.  Clifton, Benson (sad), sometimes Cozens, super infrequently Samuelsson who seemingly can’t play that way without breaking himself.  That’s about it.  Novikov is on the way but he’s probably a season away.  Adams needs to bring in 3-4 guys that’ll smack ya.  I know I’m hoping for a miracle here.

  15. just watched the Avs - Peg  highlights.

Well executed white out, but they wore road team colors.

    Mitts with a dirty goal.

I honestly cannot see our team not being embarrassed in a game like this one.  These games are at a level our boys have not seen yet, even our veteran players.

Hope Eleven is OK. And Taro.

If I had to guess the season was especially hard for Taro because his expectations were so high. I gave him a hard time about it and shouldn't have. Low hanging fruit and all.

That's why my policy is to wait and watch before drawing conclusions. No way am I predicting a breakout season... Or DFL.

So you’re the reason @Taro Tis gone ?
