Bruins doing their frequent post season choke.

I don't mind them losing but to the Leafs? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I hate the Leafs more than anybody.

    Me too.

Boston is choking this series up.  That bartender in New England was right.

Barring trades, nine of 14 spots in October are spoken for.

Tuch, Thompson, Skinner, Cozens, Quinn, Peterka, Benson, Krebs, Greenway.

If it’s up to me, I acquire real NHL veterans to fill 4 of the other 5 spots.

Kulich, Savoie, Rosen, Östlund and Rousek get to battle for the 5th.

There’s a door, but they’re going to have top step over bodies to walk through it.

Pretty good. But I’ll add that Skinner and/or Krebs could be moved from that group in trades (along with prospects and picks) that bring people in.  So maybe more slots are open.

Savoie will get a look, but I hope Lindy will start the trend of starting in the A unless you’re special.

looking at a Denon 5.2 now. 5 hdmi. Bluetooth. 3 optic cables.

Yes, you might as well upgrade to an HDMi input and you will get the better video and audio formats.

I have a Denon and it’s been a good performer.

Beautiful new Sony TV. It works awesome.

but by beautiful old receiver. Is not compatible with the TV.

A surround sound receiver?  How old?   What is not compatible, does it lack HDMI inputs?

Education basically (not k-12). My team changed and the veterans have been pushed to the side for newer ppl who are Yes men. I'm sick in explaining why things won't work or trying to fix all the screw ups. I'm over it and want to move on so I'm looking. I want to work in assessment either education or Healthcare but jobs in Buffalo are slim.

Edit: Oh and there was some things done behind the teams back with one of newbies that hurt what we do but was initiated by management. I got slapped down pretty hard and unprofessionally when I questioned it and tried to show them the issue. The trust is broken and it's never coming back.

I was thinking a high school history teacher.  Don't know why.

Veteran employees being pushed aside is common.  Probably always has been.   I know I saw it and since I still consult part time, I see it even more.   Some of it is employee resistance to change which is a normal thing, but quite a bit of this problem is an unhealthy and growing trend in our country to discount older people and not value the wisdom that comes from experience.   You are not alone.

You're talking about old people here that have trouble with the electronic board on the fridge that my lovely daughter thought we would love

My wife keeps turning off the ice maker because she pushes buttons on the fridge that don't need pushing.

I told her when she picked this fancy-dancy model out that the electronic buttons on the door will eventually fail and cost a fortune to fix.

    They did and it was.

Starbucks I can't stand sitting in line ordering a fancy ass coffee

I miss the good old days just black coffee with a little cream now it's all b*******

I don't like the taste of Starbucks, but you can order regular brewed coffee there and put your own cream in it.  It is still the oily tasting Starbucks that people like to love, but without all the foof.

They tell me that when you get older you start to think that everything sucks, less is more, and "the good old days" become so much better than they really were.

As far as the hiring process goes, I don’t know that the “how” matters nearly as much as the “who.”

    • Last time, Adams took weeks and ended up coming back to the guy already on staff.
    • Adams was hired from in-house with no search at all.
    • Botterill left no stone unturned and got taken in by a smooth-talking outsider named Ralph.
    • Housley was a hot league commodity who seemed to be their target from the beginning; they talked to many others, let those guys take other jobs, and waited until Nashville was done and hired him quickly afterward.
    • Botterill was the result of a thorough review of an industry approved short list.
    • Babcock wasn’t the result of a search, he was targeted because of his resume. When he jilted them, they did exactly the same thing with Bylsma, the next guy on their list.
    • Nolan was Pat Lafontaine giving an old crony a 2nd chance
    • Tim Murray was picked after a long-drawn-out interview process with the pick of the league’s assistant GMs where Lafontaine was accused of using the process to steal secrets from other organizations.
    • Lafontaine was the romantic whim of a star-struck owner.

This time was a bit of Babcock, a bit of Nolan and a bit of Adams.

Honestly, they’ve followed pretty much every process known to mankind and blown it every time. I don’t think it’s the process that’s the problem.

All we can do is hope they finally get it right.

Yes, of course, ultimately "who" is far more important than "how".

The process defining "the how", when done correctly by competent people, should help you find several good candidates and increase your chances of success.    You cannot be successful in a competitive league like the NHL by counting on good luck.

Luck could happen, and some luck is needed, but you cannot count on it or plan for it.

I understand folks not liking that Adams was real loose with the truth when he said he talked to "double digits" people in connection with this search for a HC.

I think it's @LGR4GM who'd been saying it from the start: It was always Lindy. Always.

I think it's clear that there was no "search," per se. Adams "spoke to" a dozen or so people (and, again, we will include his family's dog, Tinsel, in that count) about the vacancy. We may safely infer that he was asking people who were not candidates about their thoughts on people who were candidates. Moreover, it sounds like Adams, in speaking to those people, was looking for confirmation that he was poised to make a good hire in Ruff. That's all.

"Hey, Danny [Briere]. It's Kevyn. ... Kevyn Adams ... the GM of the Buffalo Sabres. Yeah! Yeah. How ya doin'? Yeah, okay here. Oh, a little gloomy. Waiting on spring to finally arrive. ... Hey, listen, I need you to keep this between you and me, but I'm thinking about bringing Lindy back as our coach. What do you think. Good idea?"

If he needs to call rival GMs to get input on hiring Lindy then he is way over his head.

This is another lost opportunity.  When you do conduct professional and fair job interviews you learn a lot.  For example, you learn who the other good candidates are, which helps in the future.   You learn that maybe a person you thought you could work with is no longer an option.   You might even learn of a few sleepers that are intriguing candidates for other positions.   All he did by not seriously interviewing veteran candidates is lose the opportunity to learn, and to gain credibility, and to be  honest with a long suffering fanbase about his effort.

The fact that other GMs might do the same thing is immaterial.  There is a right way and a wrong way.

It is no wonder this organization is where it is.

Why work yourself up like this over speculation? You and I have no idea who KA talked to. Nor do I really care either, we got the right man for the job IMO.

I am a huge Lindy fan.  He will soothe the casual fans that have left this team - fans like my daughter and my wife.   Neither has watched a game in many years because this team stinks, and they have for a very long time.  Fans are excited to have him back.  Lindy will help on the hockey side too.  We can only hope he has strong input on which NHL players to go get, because Adams needs help.

Adam’s is becoming a farce.  He didn’t even talk to a Stanley Cup winning coach that took a team from last to first.  Ever.  He probably never interviewed Gallant either.

So the guy that gave Adams a start in the NHL becomes available, it’s a perfect opportunity for Lindy to give it one more shot.  Why not hire his friend and neighbor in Clarence.  It could work?

Maybe being in the right place at the right time is Adams true skill?

I think Bill Belichick is a royal butthead, but if he coached hockey, at this point I'd be in favor of hiring him if he could bring some Ws to the Sabres.  At this point that's about all I care about.

So you will hire a “royal butthead”, and you will settle for Lindy - who you already said you did not care for, but you don’t care that Adams exhaustive and detailed coach search never happened?

You don’t care that he didn’t do the work he said he would do?   Does honesty and credibility matter anymore?

Novikov-Komarov  could be a hell of a third pairing in a couple years.

    Byram-Dahlin

    Power- ?

    Novikov- Komarov

    Ryan Johnson

use assets like Muel, Joker, Clifton, young forward prospects to find that long term RHD partner for Power.  Or sign a Demelo or Roy this offseason.

When do you see this lineup?  Hopefully about 3 years away.  You’re not suggesting adding 2 more kids and trading vets.

Bruins with their classic game 5 choke.

I was joking with @SwampD as I only saw the game starting from the last 8 minutes or so.

I think the Bruins will finish the Leaves off in Toronto.  Hope so anyway.

I was in New England a few weeks ago.  They are not too excited about the Bruins.  Very fickle and spoiled fans.   The bartender told me "they suck this year".   LOL

They have no idea the pain Sabres fans have had.  None.

Should have spent year in Rochester. Nothing was shown by him in his callup to think he will be anything but league average defenseman. As we have Dahlin, Byrum and Power, there is no room for a non physical average defender. We need aggression and defense from the other three defenders.

Still wish we would have taken draft pick instead of signing him. He does nothing above average and is deficient as defensive player and lacks physicality.

At the time the Sabres signed Ryan Johnson, Owen Power had 8 NHL games and Byram was not on the team.

Does that matter, or did you look two seasons ahead for this insightful analysis?

  15. 1 hour ago, dudacek said:

Byram has already signed his bridge contract. He has a year left on that and a minimum 2 more years after that until he reaches UFA status.

He’s played seasons of 19, 30 and 42 games before this year’s 73 and maxed out at 29 points.

If he signs for term this summer, it shouldn’t break the bank.

If he doesn’t sign this summer and doesn’t take a step next year, he won’t break the bank as an RFA next summer.

If he levels up this year and earns a big long-term deal next summer, that’s hardly a bad thing.

If he levels up this year and declines a long-term deal next summer, we’ve still got nearly 2 years to use or flip what should a valuable commodity.

Not really seeing a problem there, at least from the contract status side.

Interesting information for sure.  I was under the impression he is expecting to get a big contract after this one.  I’m probably over thinking that given your response

I’m starting to think I’m the only person on here who thinks Byram was brought in because they wanted to add a long-term top-4 defenceman and they think he can be that guy.

And the vibe I’m getting is “they can’t be stupid enough to think ^^^ therefore it must be about contracts, or a prelude to another trade down the road.”

When the trade happened I called it a boom or bust depending on Byram’s ceiling, because he’s got more upside, but Mitts is better right now.

But now I’m starting to see it more as the move that defines Adams: if it fails, it will be the one that everyone points to when they are explaining why Adams had to be fired.

Sabre fans liked the player who was traded, they don’t think he’s going to be easy to replace, they don’t think the player acquired is a good fit, and they’re not sure even if he’s any good.

Then you’ve got that whole undercurrent of “we needed to get tougher and this didn’t do it” combined with the stronger undercurrent of “you told us to be patient and then you traded away a guy who was worth being patient for, only to tell us to be patient with the new guy.”

Sounds like a recipe for pitchforks.

For the record:  I am on the fence about Bryam.  He is young, and talented, but I have not see enough to pay him big bucks.  What I saw did not blow me away after his first week as a Sabres.  He had a Zubrus-like start though.

What I saw with Krebs at 3C and and Jost at 4C will not cut it.  They need help at center right now.

They can extend Byram now, or wait and possibly trade him or lose him.  I am betting they extend him before the season, I sure hope it is a bridge that does not cost a lot.  If it is I will move on from this trade.

Dahlin, Power, Bryam, Johnson, Joker - all have  attributes that seem similar to me.  I wanted a heavyweight hitter (like Clifton who is a middle weight) but with mobility and puck skills like the others.  Muel could be the key if he can be more physical and stay healthy.

I don't understand why there was not conversation with Mitts' agent either.  The only explanation is that Adams has a stockpile of center prospects.

I hope Lindy appreciates the desperation here, and I hope Adams makes Lindy's desired roster moves happen.

The bold is going to be hard to do given the recent history of this franchise.   Let's hope they are talking and targeting roster additions together.

Since he left Ruff has worked for Dallas, NYR, and NJD - he knows players and he is student of the game.   The big question is will they come here?
