Should be really fun as we drop to 9th tomorrow night and look up at teams that we never thought would catch us. The question now is would you rather take 9th or just continue to drop. Playoffs are dead as all the teams that are ahead are miles in front of Buffalo talent-wise.

I think we will beat Florida tomorrow.  Things appear to be down and I expect some players that have been struggling to come through.

  2. Thoughts ...

Jack is everything to this team.

ERod is outworking Mitts by a fair amount.  I just wish his hustle would pay off more.

Tage continues to look like he is going to score, and score, and score.

Never thought I could ever miss Berglund this much.

CJ Smith was working hard but not sure I saw NHL speed.

Getting Girgensons and Wilson back will help.

Couldn't get to the article.  But disagree about not being NHL ready.  He'd be fine getting 4th line & 2nd PP usage with the occassional look at a larger role.  He absolutely wasn't ready to be a 2C at this point.

Most 4th liners are a combination of good checkers, high energy, willing to play body, defensively responsible, help on the PK ...

Mitts is not that but he could handle 3C provided you are set at 2C.   On a more talented team he may  not be NHL ready.

I watched him closely the past few games, especially when I saw him live in St Louis.  Other players will try mess with him physically and he does push back on them but that takes him off his games.   When he gets a man body and dedicates an off season to getting stronger he will benefit greatly.

  4. The Sabres played bad in recent losses against Flyers, Panthers, and Blues.   All other losses since the streak have been in close games, most of them we had leads in.  In some of those losses we played very good hockey ( both Caps games, Leaves game come to mind).

We are not playing much different than we did in the streak.  I see a few differences such as: Hutton’s game declining, injuries, huge regression in secondary scoring, massive slumps by Mitts/Tage/Kyle/Sheary, puck luck gone (lots of posts), Dahlin coming down to earth, and most discouraging is the ability to come from behind has been replaced by a failure to hold leads.  In some ways we are playing a more consistent game than during the streak but we are not surprising  anyone.  Teams are ready for us and our weaknesses are known throughout the league

There are very few positives since the streak ended but one had been the play of Uhlmark and another is the coming of age of Eichel.

What will it take to start winning?

1- Hot goaltending.  We need our goalies to steal a game or two, like Hutton did early in the season.

2 - Streaky players like Rienhart and Skinner need to get hot again.

    3 - Help from middle 6

    4 - Good Luck

I think we will battle for a playoff spot right to the end.  JBot needs to find a center that is an upgrade over Mitts and Sobotka.
