Sabres announce Kevyn Adams will have media availability at 11:30 tomorrow
Pimlach replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
The media requested it when they were shut out after the Avalanche in Buffalo. He agreed because he probably wanted to shelter Lindy and the players, which is noble of him if true. Tensions must be high. He probably did not want the coaches and players distracted by the media so he took the hits, besides he is accountable for the on ice product too. In this way he can defuse, spin, and control the messaging and the players and coaches can move forward and try to fix things. They need more next game mentality. -

I think it is safe to say that Buffalo, the City, is not the problem. Many of these players are from colder climates. When the big NHL contracts come, is anyone really worried about paying the taxes differences from state to state. They can make big money, and taxes are not preventing a very comfortable lifestyle for their families along with long term security, unlike any that they came from. The reputation of the Buffalo Sabres Organization is the problem, and its a big one. It goes back before Adams, but Adams has added on to the poor reputation and he needs to own it and fix it. I watched the presser a second time, the first time I listened on the radio. I don't think Adams said anything to make the fan base feel better. Despite his smirking and odd body language, he started out ok. But then the excuses came. Adams comment and eyeroll "I wish you were their agent" part was classic but Paul kept pressing, "why did you not get another Zucker" with that cap money? If the rest of the league cares enough to watch this video, I think it is safe to say that Adams did not help the teams position as a serious hockey organization and a good destination for players. At least he showed up, but even this event adds to the folly. -

"Generational talent" is sort of a myth and is not needed to win a Cup. You do need talent, lots of it. Who on Vegas is a generational talent? Eichel? Great player, but generational? He was not even the best player on that team in that year. What about Florida? Who is generational? The whole concept of drafting McDavid was to get a generation talent and that is what got Buffalo into this mess. -

Who are these unknowns that Regier traded for? Drury and Briere were well known before they came to Buffalo. Drury especially, he had Cups. Grier was known. Dumont was known. -
Lafferty is hurt. Kozak is up because of that. Quinn sitting out was refreshing.

I just listened to Adams. He was worse than I thought he would be. His smart aleck responses aside, the guy did not have any substantial comments to make me feel he can make the team better right now. He liked to say new coach, new system, only 26 games in, etc. Draft and develop is still the plan - he said he understands development is not linear - so why did he hand out NHL jobs and contracts to kids like they are jelly beans at Easter? He said little about bringing in good vets - and next year Greenway, Zucker and McLeod can leave. Then what? - bring up Kozak, Rosen, and Helenious? Sign a few $700K JAGs? Buffalo is not a destination because players know they have no chance of winning. Kevin wants to point out palm trees and high taxes like the smart aleck that he is. Then he has the nerve to cite the job the Bills did, yet he refuses to own the drought - that was step 1 for McDermott. He cannot bring in the right mix of players in part because he wont spend to the cap. He wont spend to the cap because he always has another group of prospects coming. His understanding of the cap is mind boggling. He still believes in the current Core that he locked in. He said he will "go to battle" with them. They don't battle Kevyn, and neither do you! The discussion on Power was interesting. Power's poor defensive play was brought up. Power was on the ice for the opponents GWG in last two games - Adams defended the minutes he plays and he brought up the "good stuff" he does. If this is the standard, if accepting what ends up to be the GWG is ok because you had an assist in the first period, then we see where the bar is set and we see these kids are coddled. The excuse of being young can go on for years on end. Oh, yes, and he said Pegula provides all the needed resources, of course. My take away is simple. Even if we somehow get the the 8th seed this year, which I don't see happening, the things Adams said make me question the long term viability, which is what he is focused on. I just hope he is playing poker and doesn't believe everything he tells the media. -
I noticed that Lindy used the player card I posted in the GDT. He played Kozak instead of Quinn and that helped a lot. If Kozaks goal counts, and we win 3-2 what will people be saying today? He played Gilbert on D, not Ryan Johnson, which was smart since the big goon on Winnipeg was running people and looking to start something.

Kulich has been a nice surprise but he is still not ready to be a full time NHL forward. He is close. Buffalo will probably keep Kulich up since his game has passed Quinn. In other news: Kozak looked interested in staying in the NHL Krebs on PP2 speak volumes This teams center spline is not good -
Rossi is 5'9" and 180 lbs. Fans here would have complained about his size.

I read Lance's tweets. He is extremely defensive, the sign of someone that knows he is marginal. -

Good question. Where can we watch or listen to this? -

The bolded is rationalizations and they should have at least 6 of the last 10 points. East teams: PIT, CLB, DET, NYI, OTT, MTL, PHI: 2-6-1 - These teams look at Buffalo and refuse to yield to them, they will not let the Sabres pass them without a fight. The Sabres soft play and weak mentality hold them back. -

Your paragraph also applies to last season as well. Tells me something about the pace Adams works at. On the plus side UPL has emerged as a #1, Byram is playing well, and few good vets have been added (at least temporarily). I think Adams needs to look closely at whoever he sees as "Core" to build around and re-evaluate. Dahlin, Thompson, Cozens, Muel, Power, and UPL - those are the ones he paid so far. After the season you have decisions on Byram, Peterka, and Quinn. I can see at least 5 of these 9 helping the team in the future. Maybe 6. The others should be moved to refresh the group. Looking at these three helpful vets - Greenway, McLeod, and Zucker will be free to go next season. Tuch has one more year after this one. I don't see anyone in Rochester that provides what they bring either. -

Good effort, but just one point. The overturned goal was rough. We have lost all 5 games since the West Coast trip, picking up just 2 out of 10 possible points. We now have to pass 5 teams for 8th in the conference. More sobering, we are just 2 points ahead of Montreal for last place. We are going the wrong way.
