I can't believe they questioned goaltender interference on that!  😄  You don't have interference from your own player.  And while one might call a penalty for crosscheck or interference, the penalty wasn't actually called and *that's* not reviewable.

Bad look on that one for the refs and the rule book.

I don’t like listening to Kenny Albert do hockey games. It reminds me watching a random NFC game on fox. I don’t like it

Ha. At least he calls the play more than that other guy Mr. "zijanabad scores!"  paired with Ferraro. So much useless trivia during play, mute.

Pay $9 for one game on AHL TV or go to the Distillery on Mt. Hope for the Amerks viewing party.

Oh I'm there.  Grabbed tickets first hour of sale.  Just excited to see it's full house and virtually nothing on the resale market. Can't remember this much demand last year or recently.  Good stuff!  And a white out. (wonder if amerks are wearing white too lol)

  4. Idk what his portfolio looks like. Is the fracking business entirely sold? If so and like 90% of the family's wealth is tied to NFL franchise value, I think I'd be looking to mix it up a little too.  The end isn't far away for the big man, and maybe this would allow him to give the kiddos each a big nut to work with on their own for their next 30-40 years.  If I'm his kid, I'd like that better than having it all tied to a group decision and complexities of the sports franchise (approvals, blah blah blah).

Man there is some good and very interesting matchups. Colorado will have their hands full with The Peg, who beat the Avs 7-0 last week in Colorado. Playoff hockey is so darn good, and I have some greta memories of even our beloved Sabres (like Briere's many overtime goals and that shorty by Pomminstein versus Ottawa was the best in OT)...

On another note, anybody think the Leafs will win a series? Their coach is a Granato clone in many ways, and the Leafs defense is pretty bad. Hate the Bruins too but imagine they will win that series.

Leafs are gonna win round 1. They have no choice.  Boston is still remarkable run of success, I guess dumb to expect it to end but but but...

Poor man's? Like, so poor he's living in a large cardboard box poor, if so.

And, cripes - now you've made me miss Derek Roy.

This team would have made the playoffs this year if peak Derek Roy were on the roster.

Haha....sausage grabbing Mary's too tho.  Good times.

I’m in line with this. Sabres have plenty of size. They use it to their advantage but they aren’t the kind of players that this team needs more of. Your Benson point is right on the mark.  I don’t care how big the guys are (ok maybe in defense I do) but the Sabres need Marchand not Patrick Kane. Give me jerks that are 5’10” instead of nice 6’7” guys.

The big difference is that 9 has top line skill, 19 does not.

Wasn't he dishing two assists per game during last year's amerks playoff run? Vision yadda yadda.  Adjustment hasn't gone well I guess but it's not like he's Girgensons.

Put me on the 4C train. I don’t love him. I don’t hate him. And he’s actually one of the few guys that will stick his nose into things and play with some edge.

Maybe he’s one of those guys the right coach can get more out of.

I'm here, well 3C. Poor man's Derek Roy?  I think there's a skilled pest here just waiting to blossom.

Not saying you are doing this but I don’t think the answer is ever “well next year we’ll be healthy.” Which is I think the connotation of the above, in a sense. If we get Jack Quinn back for a full year, rest assured there will be a different guy we say, “if we only had him the whole time.” It’s just how injuries work. We’ll make the playoffs next year if the team is good enough even AFTER the inevitable key injuries. That’s the depth we need. And it requires a more practical approach.

We can imagine how good we’d be with Quinn this year, but we have to go through the roster of every other team we are competing with and give them back a player they’ve missed too

Yup agreed. He just looks so good.  A catalyst.  But ya gotta overcome the injuries no doubt.

    This is amazing to me:

    • The Sabres, Devils and Red Wings each have 38 wins.
    • The Islanders, Flyers, Penguins and Capitals each have 37.

Three of those teams will make the playoffs. Four will not.

Anybody who watches hockey knows the difference between each of those teams is a few deflections here and a bobbled passes there.

What’s been so confounding about the current team for me is not that they are terrible like most Sabres of the past decade, it’s that they are finally good enough to be part of the great band of mediocre that comprises about 40% of the NHL.

And they still didn’t make it. Twice.

It shouldn’t be that hard to find the tweak that pushes them to the front of that pack.

I already posted the advanced stats (ex GF%). It says he's not so good 5 on 5 at 45.8%. The not-so advanced stats (GF%) have him at 55%. That's pretty good actually... 4th on the team.

But it's his PP where he excels. He's far and away our best PP guy.

You might not like it hearing it, but without question he helps us win games.

We don't win many games.  Why is that?  I suggest it's because Skinner is selfish and plays by his own rules and the team is not as cohesive as they need to be in this extremely competitive league.  Art and science here. You have data, I have eye test/what I think the player personalites are.  (Admittedly without knowing them, just from observing about 9 hours a week).

  12. I get how it's a home game for TO, makes sense $$$s/#s/recent history.  I don't get how not one Sabre dropped the gloves there.  Tuch at least came to the defense of Peterka who was headlocked and dragged around like a child, but he still didn't tee off.   Such a bad look all around.   They did play pretty well though for their standards and just couldn't bury one, but in the end, it's another L and if you drop 30+ games you suck.  So you suck.

Surprised to see a 75% capacity tonight (that’s good considering how bad we are)

was it due to it being Friday night and New Jersey has quite a bit of fans?

Felt like 85-90% capacity and I too was surprised by that.  Good handful of Devils fans but didn't feel as bad as last year.  Buffalo Bisons had a matinee in the cold next door and I'm pretty sure about 6 of their players arrived mid-way through the first in their jerseys in the section a couple down from mine.
