Does Staal still have his NMC?
IMHO, all of Hall, Staal, Montour, Irwin, Miller, Hutton, and the entire bottom 6 by talent can be moved for picks. I need at least one current, quality asset (good prospect or gritty younger NHL-level player) for him. I only trade Reinhart, Cozens, Eichel, and Dahlin for gross over-payments.
A new coach beforehand, interim or otherwise, who can lift the cloud over the team and at least make them all look like NHLers would help immensely.
Staal has a modified NM. A limited number of teams he can reject. I’m all for moving Montour, like yesterday. Same for Irwin and Hutton, only I cannot see anyone giving up an asset for any of these players. If you can’t get an offer for Larsson, how does Hutton bring a return? Montour maybe if you retain half his salary.
Question - Does Linus sign an extension or does he test UFA? If he hasn’t resigned before the deadline would he not be a valuable trade asset?

Fond memories of Bobby S. and Donnie E. as a great tandem. Didn't seem to matter which one played any given night...steady, consistent and reliable.
What we all long for today. They were co-Vezina 1980.

You know what...I'm in favor of making Mike Foligno the HC, and trading for Marcus and Nick. I love me a Foligno! LOL
Nick is a UFA next season. You just need to pay him. And if Jack is gone, this is exactly the type of leadership to fill the void.

Dahlin was a -4 tonight. Risto -3. UGLY
They looked as bad as their stats reflected. Risto hasn’t been great since his return from COVID-19, but he also hasn’t been God aweful, until this pairing with the other Rasmus. I’m getting really tired of waiting for Dahlin to show me why he was selected first overall. I can’t explain why but the simple fact that this season is a ***** tire fire and he’s played like shite night in and night out, but yet he finds the importance of wearing his sweater like McDavid is really starting to irritate me. A few things on this. First, it’s supposed to be a violation of Rule 9.5 which governs all protective equipment, including pants. Players are not permitted to tuck their jersey into their pants in such a manner where the top padding of the pant and/or additional body protection (affixed to the pant or affixed to the player's body) is exposed outside the jersey. The back uniform number must not be covered or obstructed in any fashion by protruding pads or other protective padding." Give him a penalty for delay of game.
Second, you are not elite. You are not in the same stratosphere as McDavid or Malkin, and therefore exceptions cannot and should not be made for you. Pull your ***** sweater down, and learn how to play Defense. You know, the thing that is your primary function while on the ice.
Guard, protect, shield, defend. What are things Rasmus Dahlin has not done this season?? 🛎 🛎 🛎I can remember when I thought by the last year of his ELC he would be ascending like that of Doughty, and we would have to consider a Jack-like extension. Now I dread the thought of paying him Sam Reinhart-like bridge deal.

Happy for Jim and his family. Hopefully he will be able to enjoy those moments in person very soon.

The way Joe said it so matter of factly feels like it's most likely the truth.
Maybe it came from Eichel's camp. If he wants to be a Ranger, perhaps they felt it best to inform their media exactly why he's been struggling this season.
If true, he is dead to me. Completely subversive, opportunistic and looking to seize upon the recent miscommunications from RK about the most recent injury. I truly hope this is not the case.

Have you watched it? I don’t have high hopes for it...
Not yet. Maybe next week. Wanted my youngest to catch the original so we could watch as a family. I too have low expectations but I’ve heard a few good reviews. I cannot recall a sequel made 20+ years later that was really good. Saw Eddie do an interview and he was really happy with the script, and casting. New additions like Lesley Jones and Wesley Snipes are supposed to be good.

You blew it. It goes like this ...
“Waiter, what is this Pegula doing in my soup”?
Waiter: “Sir, I think that is the backstroke”.
A man goes into a restaurant, and he sits down. He’s having a bowl of soup and he says to the waiter, “Waiter, come taste the soup.”
Waiter says, “Is something wrong with the soup?”
“Taste the soup.”
Waiter says, “Is there something wrong with the soup? Is the soup too hot?”
“Will you taste the soup?”
Waiter says, “What’s wrong, is the soup too cold?”
“Will you just taste the soup?!”
Waiter says, “Alright, I’ll taste the soup – where’s the spoon?”

Rick Dudley
The fact Rick didn’t get an interview seems strange. Local guy, Sabre alumni, and more experience than most of the GM candidates at the time. He would be a perfect second voice in the room to help validate trades, provide insight on drafting as well as assist in upcoming UFA/RFA decisions.

How GROSSLY misinformed. Multilevel misinformed.
1. You should just know the basic fact that he was Director of Southampton. Not the coach.
2. As a person who watches sports at any level, how does one wrap their mind around the belief that a person can be capable and hired to be a head coach in the NHL AAAAND be the manager of an English Premier League team? 😳 Do you think people can just roll out of bed and coach at the highest levels of multi-billion dollar leagues?
Hello.....Ted Lasso? He just won a Golden Globe for Christ sake.

If a serious return is Turcotte, Kaliyev, Vilardi and Iafallo, I can support this. Sure thrown in a draft pick if needed. If there is even a question about his leadership and long term viability with the franchise then pull the damn trigger.

There's several reasons for this...
- Their PP1 is the same lineup as last season with the exception of adding Hall to the mix. Their umbrella of Dahlin, Olofsson, and Eichel have been together for a few seasons, have elite puck movement and shooting skills.
- 3 of the bottom 5 PK teams are in their division.
- They're 2nd in the league in offensive zone PP face off win %.
Why they're struggling to score 5v5...
- Historically low shooting % at even strength (5.3%). As someone who played at a high level, I have no explanation for this. The amount of posts they've hit, etc. is unlike anything i've ever seen. You may have a game here and there where the team just can't score no matter what.... but this team, this season, has had many many games like this. This is not RK's fault. This is by far the worst case of bad puck luck I've ever seen. Consider, there's only been 1 team in the past 13 years (couldn't find stats before 2007) that had an even strength shooting % less than 6%... the 2014-15 Coyotes tank squad. There are 8 former 20 goal scorers on this team, the shooting % can only improve as they play more games. It has to.
I respect your take on puck-luck/ shot % and the concept of it improving as the season moves along, but if this afternoons game is a microcosm of the season, it will not improve without a change in behavior and effort. The Montour play alone speaks volumes to why the Sabres are at historic lows. I mean wide open net and he shoots directly into the goaltender. KO on the 2 on 1. Get the puck elevated a few inches and it’s a goal. Hall and Eakin with similar efforts. No rebounds, and quite honestly lack of strength (by most) to gain position in front of the net for an opportunity. Way too many one and done with this team. The seemingly high number of “posts” aside, their shooting % is not going to be league average.

Duffer was crushed this weekend by the Flyers intermission host Taryn Hatcher. Marty got the W, preventing a sweep only because Hartnell is an idiot.

I’m not shocked it’s Buffalo. Eichel doesn’t look motivated this year. Skinner couldn’t score if he was shooting in a wide open net. Okposo just plain sucks, Hall hasn’t looked anywhere near the player he was in his MVP season. His game has gone south!
Jonesy has compared Eichel to Dubois in his games played in COL before being traded to Winnipeg during the Flyers broadcast. Very unflattering in his comments about Eichels game today. Conversely they love Risto.

Sabres rank 10th in the NHL in goals allowed. Goaltending isn't the problem. They rank 27th in goals scored. We all knew they needed to score more to make the playoffs, which is why the addition of Hall and Staal were huge. Considering they were ranked 23rd in goals scored last year, they have gone backwards. That's on Krueger and his system. You can talk culture all you want. When you add talent, and your offense regresses, that's a serious system problem.
They rank 10th because they’ve only played 17 games. For those teams that have 20-22 games it’s the equivalent of 60 to 62 goals which puts the Sabres in the bottom half of the league. They probably will give up 5 or more today which will only move them down in the rankings.
ps Goaltending is a problem.

Rob Ray blames Miller? And the fowards? Clearly incompetence by Dahlin. He had no business pressing the puck.

Would this team have been better off (1) signing Taylor Hall, or (2) trading for Fleury for free?
How many games has Hall won Buffalo? How many games has Hutton cost them?
If they did not sign Hall, probably less drama around Jeff. He slots into LW with Staal and Cozen, and maybe they perform adequately 5v5. The PP isn’t what it is today without Hall, but how many goals they regress, not sure. He’s probably getting moved at the deadline, and the return is unknown but perhaps significant down the road.
Having a solid #2 in net and a guy that you can trust to play big minutes if you have to (like now possibly) is way more valuable than a goal scoring forward (who isn’t scoring).
I also think of other assets in that trade when you take on MAF. They needed that space and probably would have moved someone else to sweeten the deal. Whether it be Tuch, who seems to be playing better this season, or McNabb to help our D corp, I’m probably leaning on a trade with Vegas over the FA signing, for this year at least. -
The NJ broadcast reported eight high danger chances against by the Sabres in the first period. That’s one more than the average per game through 16. The defense is struggling.
