    Great story.

Pretty sure I’ve heard Kevyn Adams and Seth Appert say exactly the same thing.

Pretty sure Murray and Biro and Mersch and Prow and Davies and Clague and Jost and Tokarski and Cecconi are those players.

Pretty sure Neuchev and Östlund and others were in the press box in the playoffs getting blocked by some of the guys above.

Sabres suck at a lot of stuff, the way they’ve handled the Amerks under Karmanos hasn’t been one of them. They’ve been competitive and they’ve developed players.

You don’t need to make things up to complain about.

    Condescending bullcrap.

That list you have given is a garbage list. How many NHL games for that sorry lot? That is NOT a group of NHL depth players.

Cozens doesn't think like a Centre imo. He likes corners, rushes, and playing the front of the net. Playing wing will allow him to focus on scoring.

Samsonov is a highly underrated playoff borne goalie. Leafs waived him, then started him in the playoffs.

Joshua and Tanev are solid. I'd take either over Maroon/OEL/Greenway.

Jost is an upgrade on Krebs / Girgs.

I totally agree and have said this all year. I think he's better on the wing and I don't think his ice vision is great at center. He seems to see and favour one side and hence only one of his wingers. I don't know if it's a bad habit or he thinks too slow for the pace or it's just lazy but it's what he does. There is hope Ruff can correct it though.

    2C in Buffalo. I kid.

I am actually concerned that the Sabres plan for center next year might very well be Thompson, Cozens, Krebs, Savoie and that's it.

But the AHL is supposed to be the development league for the NHL primarily. If the Amerks are made up of developmental pieces primarily is that not technically supposed to be how all the teams should be? It just feels kind of two faced for the league to be all about development but their more successful set ups aren't anything close to that.

It's supposed to be both though. It's a development league and also a storage facility for your depth players. The Sabres don't seem to value that part very much.

Ideally what you get from that as well is a mix of good character veterans that help teach these kids and they "develop" just being around and watching pros work. The culture you want starts there. If we are creating a culture of "not blocking" these kids are just putting in their time knowing they will get the call after they put in the days. It's stupid.

I could blame the Sabres for a lot of things but moving on From Even Rodrigues is not one of them. He is a hard tryer but never has been a high output scorer. His best season was in Pittsburgh were he scored 43 points in 82 games. That did enough to get him a decent contract with Florida. He is just a cog in the Panther line up. I don't think we would have wanted to wait the 7 or 8 NHL seasons for him to get to where he is today. There are a lot of guys like him. To me he is an older Peyton Krebs.

You miss the point though. He was never supposed to be a "high output scorer". He's a role player. A competent bottom six player, and what are we all saying this year (and last), "we need to improve the bottom 6" so why? Because we haven't built a roster over the years with our own mix of decent bottom six players.

Yes, he's an older Peyton Krebs. At this point still better than Peyton Krebs, so why the F did we have to have a Peyton Krebs as part of a trade of our superstar? Do you get my point now? We keep creating our own holes.

We now have a hole at 3C because we traded Mitts for a defenseman that is really just a softer version of Brandon Montour. This is why we do not get better.

I still have hope, and actually the most hope I've had since Ruff was last here. I really hope the game hasn't passed him by. But when Adams said, I'm not bringing Appert up, I'm looking for a HC with NHL experience. Last person I thought of was Lindy Ruff. He obviously didn't look too hard. But I'm still here, have always loved Lindy, and we'll just wait and see how it plays out. I'm hoping for the best.

BTW, does Lindy still have a house in Buffalo? I thought he still lived there in the off-seasson.

Yes, if I'm not mistaken it's just down the road from Tuch's. I think they could car pool .

Yup, it's pretty ***** laughable at this point. But don't worry, KA hired a new "experienced" coach. Don't get me wrong, Ruff was the best caoch the Sabres have had since the 90's. Pretty sure nothing has changed since then. ***** joke.

I know it's easy to criticize the Ruff hire but he is the first real NHL coach since himself so if you want to stay a fan you have to take that hope. He did pretty well with NJ when they had some goaltending. I think he understands the current game pretty well.

Honestly if Ruff doesn't work out what's left? Nothing but a Pegula sale and that likely won't happen.

While I agree that the Sabres gave up on lots and lots of good players. Look at the reason -  Continuous incompetent hockey operations and coaching.  It’s been constant change since Pegula took over.

Nolan was doomed. Bylsma and Kruger were NHL flashes in the pan.  Housley was an ex-Sabre wey-dream.

All the GMs were first timer and tge all git rid of their predecessor’s players.

You can’t blame 5he same guy for Zadorov,

That's what I was saying. We haven't had a real NHL coach since Ruff and now it's Ruff again. But the list in between is laughable. Same for GMs. All green and full of mistakes and then they have to work with a meddling owner.

Just saying every year in the playoffs we see ex Sabres doing just fine. The list of mistakes is LONG.

One issue with the AHL playoffs is that it favors grinders masquerading as Top 6 forwards and other failed NHLers.

Which is only an issue if you don't build your AHL team with grinders and some failed NHLers.

Rochester is a complete mirror of the Sabres and has the very same roster construction issues. It's not really that surprising.

  10. and watching Zadorov in these playoffs you have to add him in. Here's the very guy most of us think our D desperately needs/lacks and we'd drafted him. He could have been a lifetime Sabres but no, we didn't think he was worth having either. Geniuses, just total geniuses.

  11. Remember when the Sabres decided they had no use for E-Rod?

Remember when they decided Montour was garbage and had to go?

Wonderful management we've had over the years and when you watch these guys filling their roles in solid fashion on other teams you have to come to realize it's never been the players (as a whole), it's always been the coaching. This is why Ruff excites me and gives me a little hope. No, he's not the best coach but he's a real NHL coach. We haven't actually had a real experienced NHL coach since.......well, since Ruff. (I don't count Nolan V2 cause that was a screw job tank and no coach could deal with that).

Looks like Bruins will be out in 5.

Yes. Considering he didnt really have a sophomore slump, he just maintained is actually very interesting. I actually think he might be a player that does very well under Lindy. I think Power would do much better in a more structured system because I think his game naturally fits within structure.

    As will Clifton.

Skinner isn’t waiving ntc for anyone except Toronto

UFA in the NHL is fools gold. We need to trade prospects and picks for players.

Yes we do, but we also can use free agency. I would argue that paying a guy like Lindholm big money is worth it and I suspect somebody like Boston will pay him big money but mostly we want to target middle aged guys who ae underpaid on cap tight teams like Clifton was last year. Sure Cliffy's far from perfect, and he is slightly over paid, but he did make the D better than it was.

An aging 2C who could now slip into a 3C role or an underpaid 3/4C with upside. A defensive D man. A couple grinders. The things this team doesn't have right now. Get them any way you can.

In the meantime another player fell into their laps in Benson, who will probably turn out to be a much better player than the guy they were trying to move up for.

The Bruins didn’t pick Marchand in the 3rd round because they were smart. That same staff took Yuri Alexandro’s 34 picks earlier and Zach Hamill top 10 a year later.

You can tilt your odds, but so much of the draft is a total crapshoot.

There's a similarity with Benson and Marchand. Marchand fell (even further) because of his size. He's a little guy and GMs always think twice on little guys (as they probably should in most cases). When a little guy is actually good he's usually a steal in the draft.

One thing I want to throw in here many people might not know. Do you know who made Marchand into Marchand? Ted Nolan.

I think Pasta will be challenged again. Curious to see how he responds. If he's fighting he's not scoring. He's gonna be targeted. He/they are gonna wish he didn't join the fray.

Of course he will be targeted. Florida goes after the stars, it's their thing and fair enough I get it. The guy they are targeting most though is McAvoy. Forecheck and hit the D is their primary game plan and it's a good one - are you listening Lindy???

They cannot afford to let another goalie get away.

Too true. That's part of the problem Kevyn has created for himself too though. If he had a solid veteran in the fold UPL would have less bargaining power but with only himself and Levi as viable goalies his agent is going to play hardball.

I remember Vancouver after the loss to Boston back in maybe 17? Trashing the city, Rabid is the word

2011 and I remember it well for a number of reasons but the best was just a few days after the riot I went over to Vancouver to see the Dropkick Murphys. Living on the island in Nanaimo at the time. Took the ferry over and when we hit the downtown it was surreal. All these boarded up windows and damaged businesses. It looked worse than the way they dress it up for filming The Last Of Us. Those fans had gone crazy.

Dropkick Murphys have a big spoked B on their drumkit, spotlight on it and they play We Are The Champions to start their show. Taunted the crowd all night long. It was brilliant and unforgettable. I remember that night better than the actual cup games but everybody probably remembers Burrows and the finger bite.

Lots of city council debates right now over possibly having outdoor viewing parties again. I believe they have agreed to try it now.

Lol reading comprehension again. I’m not using BPA in a drafting context, here. You’ve been attempting to have an argument with me for a few hours that I’m legitimately not having haha. It’s my fault as well, I shouldn’t have even used the term “ROSTER bpa” because it invited confusion: my point was it should be the best players we can ice (up to and including transactions we might make), rather than actively looking to find spots for rookies. They should absolutely be in the mix, but as I stated (I hoped it would make sense): the youth should have to force their way on. Yes, “best” still necessarily accounts for mix and a wanting to have a well balanced team

Proper nhl depth results in rookies needing to bypass appropriate competition and also provides injury insurance

Correct. I have nothing different to add but want to stress the bolded part as a punctuation point to the discussion.
