Guentzel is the perfect player all around. Unfortunately, we do not have anybody like him. We need about three of those guys minimum.

Don't people around here think this is what Quinn will become?

    Got it, you favor Power.

    Not what I said.

Dahlin is what he is. I can assess that pretty accurately.

Power is not yet what he might become. So get back to me in 2 years when Power should be at the beginning of what he will actually be.

You can’t convincingly argue it’s a meaningless distinction when your view yields an untradeable ….JJ Peterka, and mine argues for trading Dahlin (my favourite player) should an appropriate deal present itself.

and you just want to argue about words rather than ideas. wtf does it matter how I said it?

Start with, “everyone is available for the right price” and go from there

Well everyone's available everywhere theoretically but that's kind of meaningless.

Which player will end their career, being talked about and ranked above the either, because most or all definitions of better apply to one more than the other.

Could still be Power. Ask me again in 2 years.

You chose your words to describe the second group poorly then. “So exceptional “ certainly paints an image of nearly untouchable.

10 players out of a roster of 23 is nearly half.

I guess you could take it that way. I was trying to avoid people reacting "trade Dahlin? You're nuts" type of thing so I phrased it as an exceptional deal. So no, only 6 I wouldn't trade (unless some team grossly overpays for them but that wouldn't happen).

You basically put half of a never won anything roster on the protected list.

Even Dahlin (and certainly  Power) should be available for the right price.  I’m not talking about a dream overpayment.  I mean, for the right price noone should be off limits if you are really serious about winning.

    Not really.

I put 6 guys on the "protected" list. One is a prospect, 5 of the 6 still have development upside and one bleeds blue and gold and should be captain.

I put 4 guys on a list where I'd want a good deal that makes the team better. That's it for the entire franchise. I'd hardly call that protecting the roster.

Oh ***** well if you remember it, it must be true right?

Very well could have been against Maroon in 2019. Don't think he moves the needle for that team, it has significant issues.

I only remember it because you insulted me at the time. It's a direction you enjoy going in when someone has a different world view to you.

    Aye yai.

you need to watch more sports if you think greatness inspiring hate isn’t a thing.

Yes, half the nba fanbase has legit reasons for hating LeBron with every fibre of their body. Right. Lol

Mahomes is a villain just because

    It can be geography too

but the answer to PA’s question about why no one hates us is cause we haven’t been great

Greatness PLUS geography makes leafs fans hate us. It’s a combo

Oh no I know greatness can build hatred for sure but I don't think that's how you build a real rivalry. That has to be geography and to some extent history.

So we're probably not really disagreeing. Sabres are definitely insignificant to everybody right now.

  9. Well that was anti climactic. Glad Chicago didn't win it anyway.

So I'm sticking with Liam Greentree. I know many people will say he will go lower but idc. I like the kid and how he plays.

If they are still there (which I doubt) I'd probably consider/take Iginla or Yakemchuk but I think they will both go top 10.

If we trade the pick for a roster player, I'm fine with that too.

That's it for me on the draft this year until it's done.

You lost me at the bolded.  That used to be true, but hasn’t been for a good decade, if not more.  One side is demonstrably more active in that context than the other.

The other side might shift if they keep losing though. The goal posts of what is "normal" or "acceptable" or even where the center is and what is "right" of that or "left" of that keep getting shifted.

Remember when the left thought Dick Cheney was the ultimate evil? Now he's a moderate.

It's shifted into other countries now too whether we like it or not. Our new opposition conservative guy is stealing all his playbook pages from Trump and the republicans. Decorum in parliament is going right down the dumper.

probably getting too political here, but then again we are geezers, and geezers like to gripe.

  11. Quenneville and Berube talk coming out of Leaf land. Also might be the end of Shanahan.

Has any fan base cheered the Sabres' demise?

I'm not sure the Sabres have ever been any team's chief rival.

I don't think so. Closest thing would be during the French Connection years Montreal-Sabres became a pretty real thing for a few years but not to the extent of say the Bruins-Habs or the Habs-Nordiques.

imo Toronto should be the rival and maybe it can be if we ever get good again.

  12. The idea of trading Power is insane.

Yes, he needs some serious coaching and he needs a big time muscle building program but he still has a huge amount of potential. He's just a kid.

Now the prospects who aren't in the NHL right now? I'm fine with trading any of them and any future picks for immediate roster help now.

Players I would definitely not trade: Benson, Peterka, Power, UPL, Levi, Tuch.

Players I would only trade if the offer was so exceptional I had to consider it: Dahlin, Thompson, Cozens, Quinn.

Unless I forgot someone pretty much anybody else is fair game for the right deal.

No way was Maroon signing with Buffalo in 2019-2010.

He signs with contenders, and then gives them a boost in the playoffs when the whistles are put away and the game play fits his style.

You can't be sure of that. He'd just won the cup but his value wasn't as noticed at that point. Sure, he signed with Tampa as a contender then but he might have signed for more money somewhere else at that time. He's on his last legs now, but back then it would have helped the Sabres a lot.

You remember what ppl said about Pat Maroon in summer 2019?

Btw in that game yesterday Florida scored 1 goal, Pat Maroon was on the ice for it.

I remember you were one of them. You're always VERY opinionated come draft time and free agent ideas time. Easy to remember that. Don't remember who you wanted instead though. Just remembered you laughing at my idea.

If you're going to use some stat like the above as a counter argument you really haven't watched the series or seen what he's contributed. Also, check out some of the Behind The B clips and see what he brought to the locker room and the culture. This was a bigger part of it than on ice and is exactly what the Sabres desperately need.

Bruins do more with less. Sabres do less with more. The missing elements are obvious.
