  1. There is another article that indicates McDermott and Beane had already worked together on trading Sammy. Then Beane did his admin stuff and brought the deal to McDermott for approval. Q: What was your guy reaction last night when Brandon [beane] said he took these trades to you http://www.newyorkupstate.com/buffalo-bills/index.ssf/2017/08/what_brandon_beane_sean_mcdermott_said_about_bills_trading_sammy_watkins_ronald.html The Wrestler needed to rubber stamp Beane's paperwork.
  2. You do realize that Ozzie Newsome, a Hall of Fame GM, used a first round pick on Kyle Boller? Matt Flynn's massive deal was $10 million guaranteed. Whoopty-Freakin Doo. He brought him in for security and then swung for the fences on the 5 foot 11 Russell Wilson. Wake me up when Brandon Beane ever drafts a player of his caliber. No, he did not make the trades on his own. He had talked to McD beforehand and then worked on the mechanics or numbers before final confirmation.
  3. You are completely mistaking my position again. Drafting QB's is hard. That's why you want to have a great front office and coaching staff in place to maximize your ability to find the next franchise QB. Oakland hired Reggie McKenzie from the Green Bay tree. Soon they had Derek Carr. Seattle hired John Schneider from the Green Bay tree. Soon they had Russell Wilson. Having a great GM is no guarantee but it sure beats the alternative that the Bills are trying. Defensive, play not to lose first-time head coach given enormous power over the roster as if he was a conquering Superbowl winning hero.
  4. I think I have already outlined "the process" that got us to McDermott and Beane which was awful. What are the chances that a bottom feeding team like the Bills who don't conduct a real coach or GM search and look clueless in decision after decision suddenly figure it all out? The odds are against him. I am fine with moving on from Whaley. Although I do admit he was not allowed to do his job and the Pegulas and Russ Brandon really put him in a bind with the Rex hiring.
  5. Fair enough. Nathan Peterman is a sample size of one. I think I was trying to attack the older scouts and talking heads and brought the Bills into it. All we know is Beane wants a "pocket passer" which could be 90% of the QB's in college.
  6. Once the Sabres season begins I doubt there will be much more to say about the Bills. They are as interesting now as they will be all year. That's a lot of spin. Lafontaine had no business at the top of the food chain no matter what title he ended up with.
  7. I'll take him. Sabres can use all the defensive help they can in the pipeline.
  8. There is no magic formula. It's really hard to draft a QB if they are not John Elway or Peyton Manning and project them from college to the NFL. Which is why it is very important to give yourself a fighting chance by employing the best of the best at the GM and coaching positions to maximize your chance of success in identifying, drafting, and developing a QB. You obviously do not know much about Mahomes as a prospect if you wrote that line. The only part that is true is the snaps from center. Guess what, if the Bills want to find a QB they need to stop employing dinosaur methods and scouts and start studying the actual complete talent pool where college prospects come from. Most of the college QB's play in spread systems. While the Bills are looking for safe picks that took snaps under center with limited talent like Peterman the best NFL teams are adapting THEIR playbooks to make the transition for these college QB's easier. Andy Reid employed many Air Raid plays as did NE Patriots. No surprise they see things differently than the backward thinkers in Buffalo. Better than Beane's short GM career will go.
  9. Botterill had significant duties and responsibilities in Pittsburgh where his work helped result in multiple Stanley Cups. Brandon Beane has no real background in player personnel OR scouting and was hired because he is buddies with the new coach.
  10. No. Downtown Buffalo.
  11. "Remarkably, Terry Pegula, after having met Pat LaFontaine just twice, offered him the Sabres’ general manager job during a dinner with the former Sabres player. Keep in mind, LaFontaine had never been a general manager. LaFontaine turned it down pointing out that he didn’t have the skills for that job. Here are Pegula’s own words about his LaFontaine courtship: “One thing led to another and it was like, ‘Wow, this guy is pretty impressive,’ so I guess I popped the question,” Pegula said. “I asked him if he thought he could be a GM. He said, ‘No, but here’s what I think I can do.’ ” What kind of hiring and firing process is this? It’s one that seems spastic and inconsistent. This unorthodox and unrigorous process has resulted in at least one bad outcome: a newly hired President of Hockey Operations who resigned after just a few months on the job, leaving the Sabres with yet another public relations nightmare." https://www.buffalorising.com/2014/03/the-pegula-process-why-sabres-fans-should-be-worried/ Trust the Process!!!!! Please do not put Beane and Botterill in the same sentence. The Sabres conducted a real GM search where they brought the top candidates in and hired someone with a remarkable resume.
  12. Agree. Pegula and his love affair for Sean the Wrestler reminds me of the Lafontaine meeting where he gave Pat a job that Lafontaine told Pegula he was not qualified for.
  13. I just posted moves that the current regime made that I disagree with. And sorry, if you are going to bring back Tyrod why would you install an offense not suited to him? This idea of forcing players into bad positions to fit the coaches preferred scheme is what people had been complaining about Rex for the last 2 years. Stubborn coaches. See Rex Ryan.
  14. Well, they are already doing things on QB's. 1.Brought back Tyrod Taylor after he failed to live up to his contract last year. 2.Passed on Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson, two QB prospect that other NFL teams spent 2 #1 picks on. 3.Drafted Nathan "Coach Pick" Peterman 4.Installed a WCO offense that requires the QB to make fast decisions and accurate throws on time. A system that is perfectly WRONG for the veteran QB they brought back! 5.Hired a QB coach with ZERO NFL experience coaching QB's. 6. Gave Tyrod Taylor a contract with over 8 million dead cap if they move on from him next year. 7.Traded their #1 WR and the only player that elevated the Bills already bottom of the barrel passing game. Right now I would say there are a lot of clues how good these guys are at QB stuff. Does not look like anything but a disaster.
  15. There was no "they". The Bills GM at the time rated Mahomes #1 and told the Bills to draft him. And it is fair to say that Whaley was already being fired and he knew that. So why in the world would the Bills get to a draft with the guy making the pick the rookie head coach?! This "approach" or plan is so ridiculous I don't know how anyone can defend it or like the idea that their billion dollar sports team had no adult supervision on draft night.
  16. Hey, I did bring him up as an example of the Bills terrible approach at improving the QB position. Others wanted to discuss him with me. Feel free to discuss whatever you want when it comes to the Bills. I will continue to go on about QB's because this organization has no clue. And how do you know there is a plan? Is that wishful thinking or is there something more to it? The Bills are taking a QB in 2018 originated from Bills ass kisser Sal C who came up with that concept after the Bills traded down and drafted a CB again. All I see is random noise. There is no evidence that Beane and McDermott have some grand future in store for us.
  17. Productivity plus Talent is what analytics based people look for. Mahomes was the #1QB in the draft based on a Productivity + Athletic Measurables approach.
  18. His ceiling is high but like most NFL prospects there is no guarantee. I like him enough to have drafted him over Sean Jauron's plan to draft another first round DB to replace the player we let go to free agency.
  19. Hey, you either see it or you don't. Not everyone will see it. As for Peterman, he struggled under pressure completing only 1 of 8 passes for 7 yards. Mahomes excelled under pressure in preseason and in college. He routinely avoided sacks while evading free blitzers. Peterman has a rag arm and was run out of town in Tennessee. Mahomes was not only talented but the most productive college QB. But I get why Peterman is thought to look good. You just have to have red and blue glasses on. Alex Smith is far better than Tyrod. He can complete basic NFL passes. But back to your bet. In order to make it you are completely misunderstanding my position. I said Mahomes was the best QB prospect since Big Ben that I thought the Bills had a chance at drafting. That's an important caveat from the statement you assigned me.
  20. That's rather random. So the Bills would be smart to pass on a QB that leads them to the playoffs multiple times?
  21. Moving the goalposts?
  22. Tell me what you are thinking. Looks like he is on schedule to be the starting QB next year on a loaded Chiefs team. If A Smith gets injured this year for any length of time I believe Mahomes takes the job this year.
  23. To those who could read the tea leaves. Not the greater NFL community which included guys like Sean the Wrestler.
  24. No. He was not a perfect prospect. He played in an Air Raid spread offense ( no Air Raid QB's have ever amounted to anything). He had bad footwork and never took snaps under center. These flaws were the opportunity to get him without a top 5 pick. Aaron Rodgers fell because no Tedford system QB had done anything but bust. I have been very clear that Mahomes was not perfect and that was why I was excited. For once, maybe my team could get the discount.
