  1. I agreed he failed as a GM. I also agree he had a top resume. So why should we consider someone with even less credentials an upgrade? And let's not forget how the Pegulas and Brandon sabatoged the top 5 defense Whaley had created.
  2. Whaley came from pro personnel and he was excellent at that. I am advocating hiring someone that is a draft guru. The best drafting team recently is Seattle and they hired such a guy in Schneider. Chiefs just elevated Veach who we could have had but passed on.
  3. Housley coaches an attacking, exciting style of hockey. Mcdermott is known for 4-3 zone defense, bend but don't break, keep the plays in front of you. Very Conservative and Boring. Boterrill was actively running the AHL team while Beane was watching film with Gettelman to beef up his resume. I also don't recall Housley picking the players for the Sabres in the draft.
  4. You're all in on a guy that will be regarded as one of the worst coaches in Bills history.
  5. Coaching search. Include QB gurus such as Jim Bob Cooter or Kyle Shanahan. GM search: Go to the best drafting teams such as Seattle, Baltimore and steal one of their top college scouting gurus. And whoever is hired needs to make finding a QB a priority.
  6. Actually, you have my position wrong. I have stated that a poor process can result in a great outcome. Maybe Beane is some mad genius. But all I know is the Bills did not conduct a real coaching search, a real GM search, and did not make a serious move to improve the QB position. I have also said that Jbots could fail. But the Sabres followed an excellent process and did bring in the best people to interview, unlike the Bills.
  7. Then why even bother hire someone working in football? Why not just hire a good admin guy from corporate America and cast a wider net?
  8. You did not answer the question. How is that I gave credit to Pegula for a good hire by the Sabres if I am just assuming everything he does will fail? And I was very skeptical the Sabres would do the right thing. The more I learned about Botterrill the more I liked. The more I learn about mcD the less I like.
  9. Why are you quoting yourself? Just shuffling papers does not make someone qualified to find top players.
  10. Then explain how I applauded how the Sabres did a full GM search culminating in Botterril and then Bots hired Housley, also a top candidate. The Sabres did a great job and the Bills failed.
  11. I think there are also crossroads that professional teams approach that generate interest. What is there to say when your team is just lumbering along like last year under Rex? When Pegulas fired Rex I thought that it was the perfect moment to finally fix the Bills. Unfortunately, the Pegulas decided to try to recreate the crazy Lafontaine hire with their "process" this offseason.
  12. I would take Greg Gabriel. In private. If he wasn't writing for a website that depends on user subscriptions from the Buffalo area.
  13. The Greg Gabriel article in a nutshell. "Bills hired coaches who want to run their schemes. Therefore it is good that they traded away players that don't fit those schemes." How is this any different than Rex changing a top 4 NFL defense because he wanted to run a 3-4? Who cares about Rick Dennison? He was the guy who said yes after 2 other guys with better resumes turned us down. So the Bills led the NFL in rushing last year and Tyrod had the most time to throw in the pocket so let's change that around so Dennison and McD's buddy Castillo can play Fat Ass Ducasse over John Miller? No thanks. And by the way, having a corner that covers one of the best team's WR's in man coverage is A GOOD THING! Why can't defensive guru McDermott figure out how to use that? Too lazy or doesn't know how? Was Sammy injured? Who is healthier now? Sammy or Jordan Matthews? Looks like someone is unavailable and it's the guy the Bills traded for.
  14. My God. I expected a lot more from someone who used to work in the NFL. Then again maybe he is writing this Koolaid piece because that's what he thinks the subscribers will want?
  15. I am mildly pro-Kane. He brings a lot to like to the table. I also would not mind trading him if we got a nice young defensive prospect. For some reason, it feels like Pegulas might have already told Jbots to trade him. So what I want is not really relevant. I would not mind bringing Kane back for the right price.
  16. No to Tavares. As for Kane, I would like to see value if traded. If not, I would rather just keep him.
  17. The only thing we will really argue about this year is whether the Bills terrible record was planned or intentional.
  18. I like my Koolaid spiked with booze but only on Fridays. ;)
  19. I think the point is that being a head coach is a lot harder than being a DC under a defensive head coach with a first overall QB and being a GM is a lot harder than being Gettleman's administrative assistant.
  20. Polian and Levy recommended Dick Jauron. So older Levy, Russ Brandon, Dick Jauron and Turk Schonert. But Peterman is less talented than Trentative.
  21. "So the Bills' grim preseason continues, draining away much of the blind optimism about their chances in the first year under Beane and Sean McDermott. It hasn't been this bad since 2009, when Dick Jauron fired Turk Schonert as offensive coordinator a week before the opener. It's hard to say which is a bigger concern right now -- Taylor's head or Dareus's -- without knowing the severity of Tyrod's injury. A concussion is a troubling thing, especially when it's your starting QB and he's certain to take a lot of punishment when the, uh, real bullets fly. But this is a harsh welcome to the big-boy jobs for Beane and McDermott, who arrived with high hopes but are now confronting the realities of the NFL." Jerry Sullivan, Buffalo News http://buffalonews.com/2017/08/27/bills-dilemma-head-injury-head-case/ I brought up the Dick Jauron and Turk Schonert references already. Not a good look for a new regime when these are the reference points that come to mind for fans and sportswriters covering the team.
  22. If Housley can turn Bogo into a true top 4 D then he deserves coach of the year.
  23. I agree with you. They are not trying to lose. Or win. Foot on brake and accelerator. Trade away young talent for pennies such as Watkins, Darby, Ragland. Let Gilmore, Gilislee walk. Bring back Kyle Williams. Sign Eric Wood to ridiculous 8,000,000 a year extension when he is old and injured last year with a younger, cheaper comparable replacement here already in Groy. Does anyone think Bill B would extend Eric Wood when Groy is here? Wood was a marketing move, not a football move. Same with bringing back Tyrod. Marketing move not a football move. Installing a west coast offense to go with my new attacking 4-3 D? Heard this before from Greggo Williams. Now instead of Mike Shephard we get Curtis Modkins, I mean Rick Dennison! One has to ask why the only PATTERN i see in Buffalo is the same cheap circus marketing gimmicks and tricks. Where are the football people? Can we put some adults in charge?
  24. I've outlined my own reading of the tea leaves. What is it about McDermott and Beane that you like specifically?
  25. I agree. Beane is his assistant. That's why Brett Veach was not hired even though his resume was more attractive.
