Sabres Sign Jason Zucker to a One Year 5 Million AAV Deal
GASabresIUFAN replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
….and his defensive metrics? https://www.capfriendly.com/scouting-reports/players/jason-zucker#:~:text=His pace is an asset, down the lineup if required. Sounds like he is willing to get his hands dirty. Sounds like a reasonable 3rd line addition. We give up some scoring compared to Skinner, but get back someone willing to fore and back check. -
Remain calm all is well!

No question we need better 4th line players, but he had better find a way to add a legit center to this roster.

What are we really expecting to happen today?

No question, but wouldn’t you like to see someone like ROR signing with the Sabres today or being acquired in trade?

Sabres acquire Forward Beck Malenstvn for 43rd Overall
GASabresIUFAN replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
If he had spent a 4th or 5th on the trade, my reaction would have been let’s see what the guy can do. Spending a premium pick on a guy with one year of NHL experience at 26 who is at best a 4th line player makes zero sense, especially when you paid the same price for Greenway. No other GM would have paid that much for Beck. Guys like Beck are a dime a dozen in the NHL and don’t command that kind of price. In the scheme of things it’s a minor trade, but it’s just another reminder of Adams inability to judge NHL talent. -
Players, between UFA and NTC/NMC, have more power than ever before. However, there are only a finite number of NHL jobs and the salary cap keeps talent from congregating in just a few teams. Certainly the Sabres abject failures for the last 13 years hurts significantly, but I mostly blame Adams for the continued failures. He lacks credibility. Yzerman stepped in started to fix a terrible Detroit team immediately. Briere seems to making quick progress in Philly and he is a rookie GM. Adams seems unable to sell good players on his vision in Buffalo and on his the ability to execute that vision. The next few days are huge for Adams and the Sabres. If he manages to bring in a few good players to elevate the roster he may just be able to change the narrative in Buffalo. Otherwise, he’ll be gone by mid-season.

Sabres acquire Forward Beck Malenstvn for 43rd Overall
GASabresIUFAN replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Isn't Beck basically Eric Robinson 2.0? Robinson had a 24 pt and a 27 pt season and has 306 NHL games under his belt. Robinson was on a 18 pt pace for the Sabres after being acquired. He's basically the same size as Beck. Why waste a 2nd rd pick on Beck? I don't get it! The deal would make more sense if Beck had affordable term on his deal, but he doesn't have that either. -
Yep, especially if KA doesn’t find at least a decent depth scorer that will play a two way game.

Howdy Doody

My distain for KA is well known, but I am going to partially defend him here. In the last year, he has completed at least some kind of deal with Ana, CBJ, Mon, Colo, Fla, Philly, SJ(2), Wash, and WPG. That's nearly 1/3 of the league. Go back to the deadline in 2023 and you can add another 5 teams. Adams has zero issue getting small deals done with other teams. Where he fails is getting franchise fixing deals done. In those 16 deals over 14 teams, only the Greenway and Mitts deals are of consequence.
-
Whether you like our prior rebuild GMs or not, at least they were able to use assets to bring in talent to the organization. Jbot acquired Skinner and Montour TM acquired Kane, Lehner and ROR We can argue the viability of the deals or the timing of those deals, but at least they took a risk and tried to improve their NHL rosters. What's KA done?
-
Your right, I’d prefer the Sabres GM to succeed vs constantly making excuses for failure. Like them or not, at least TM and Jbot managed to get deals done that brought good talent into our organization such as ROR, Kane, Skinner and Montour. One of the reasons I'm so frustrated with Adams is that I've agreed with the general plan of draft and develop. However now it's time to go for it and I don't see any real urgency. I hear lip service given to urgency but the actions haven't followed the words. This latest draft was again about building for the future. We added multiple draft picks at the deadline. He then traded down to add another pick. All he ended up doing with all the draft capital is adding another 8 kids to the pipeline and a wasting a 2nd on a new version of Eric Robinson.
-
That would have been preferable to saying I was really aggressive but failed. It’s not like we haven’t heard that before. At some point you’d think he complete a deal to improve the team, but continually fails. Other GM’s seem to get key deals done, why can’t ours?
-
Also, Adams on why he failed to improve the roster during the draft “He responded that the Sabres were aggressive but there weren’t trades that they could get other teams to agree to. He said, “…we’re going to do everything we can to make our roster better.” Let the excuses for failure begin.
-
Fair point, but that’s the point of development. He is a sniper, but if he rounds out his game at BU, then he’ll be the biggest bargain in this draft. If not, he’ll have a long career scoring 30 goals a year.
-
The issue with Joki is that he doesn't do anything very well. He skates fine, can add a little offense and grew more willing to block shots this past season. He isn't very physical, doesn't clear great, still gives the puck away way more often then he takes it away and doesn't often kill penalties. He certainly isn't worth 2.5 mill a year (his Q offer amount).
-
No not at all, but as I do a consensus board every year, this year with 15 different rankings, the odds of a good player not showing up on on at least one of those rankings is pretty slim. it's certainly possible these three guys reach the NHL, but unlikely. Remember the odds someone plays 100 games in the NHL after the 3rd rounds drops to 18% or less and by the 7th round about 11%. One good thing about Brunet and Geary is that Buffalo should have good scouting on them. Brunet was teammates with Komarov in the Q and Geary is a Buffalo kid who plays at MSU with Strbak. Zelenov doesn't even have a page on Eliteprospects.com

Jacob Bryson will not receive a qualifying offer from the Sabres
GASabresIUFAN replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
He's now a UFA. The vet minimum is 750K. Someone is going to give him a 1 way deal. He has played 206 NHL games, which is 30th most in his draft class. He is going to get a deal, if not from us, from someone looking for cheap experienced depth. -

Think they'll do that with Joki? Just kidding. I know the $4 mill a year contract is coming.
