  1. If it's $2M kept, you gotta do it, but top 10 protect the 1st.
  2. If the Sabres are actually good... wouldn't it be possible that the secondary market would be more than the box office? I think for the two games I paid to go to last year it was pretty close, and I'm pretty sure I paid box office price.
  3. A lot of us use Sabrespace as our primary source for Sabres/NHL news and links. Just be accurate. Thread titles are like news headlines and when they're misleading it's annoying. As I said in a previous post, in time of crisis, people will get hyperbolic and overreact. That's natural, but as an engineer I live in a world where facts need to trump emotion. Now for the thread drift pet peeve rant- All this is not unlike during the COVID crisis, when more facts about the disease became known, we as a society (especially here in Canada) were unable to rationally discuss the merits of completely shutting down society to protect what was mostly senior citizens who were at or near their end of life anyways. Maybe it was worth it... But there was never even a discussion- emotions were just too high. Meanwhile, our world is angrier, more divided and more distrustful than ever. Children across the world lost out on their education. People lost their homes, their businesses and their livelihoods. The economy has never been the same since. And in the end, it was the virus mutating, and not a vaccine that ended the pandemic. Had we not shut in for so long, perhaps the mutation would have come sooner. Sadly, emotions ran too high to even discuss mutation as a way out... Meanwhile we had a large segment of the population (healthy people under 50) who were largely unaffected by the disease who could have served as vectors to speed mutation. Maybe you disagree with all of this, but my pet peeve is that people get too emotional, and put their backs up to even consider the facts before making a rational decision. Back to Gaudreau... I talked about what happened to him off this board. I discussed the dangers of bike riding with my kids and reemphasized the importance of defensiveness on the road. My wife and I talked about how awful it was for his sister, wife, and kids. I just don't feel I have a lot to add by posting about it here. It seems a lot of other posters felt the same. That said, there were others that felt like posting was the right thing. There are no wrongs or rights here.
  4. EDIT- deletedy post. Reread the context of the quote and figured my post was not necessary.
  5. Again, he deserves to be locked up for a very long time... Hopefully for the maximum that the law allows since in addition to the drunk driving he was also driving aggressively. However, there are no murder charges being laid here. In times of crisis, it is instinctual to act emotionally and hyperbolically. Hence the fractures in society we saw during COVID that still linger to this day.
  6. This is a very good point. To suggest it's murder undermines the fact that someone who gets behind the wheel drunk is very capable of mistakenly killing people. All too many times people think they're ok to drive when they're clearly not.
  7. I think we can be terribly saddened by this (as I am), but still want accuracy in the thread title. Seeing the headline below implies something completely different than what happened (unless it is later determined this was premeditated).
  8. This is a really emotional event, but if you tried the driver for murder, he definitely walks based on the legal definition of the term. My point is if we post a thread title on the main page, we should try to make it as accurate as possible for the person clicking through.
  9. I see the thread title changed. This was a horrifying, emotional event, but to call it murder implies intent to kill. Unless there's news I haven't seen yet, I don't think this is the case. The current accounts imply this was a drunk driving incident. The correct title would say something to effect: Johnny Gaudreau Killed by Drunk Driver
  10. I agree with the title change and the anger... But it's death by auto and not murder. Nonetheless he should be put away for a very long time.
  11. I think if he had any kind of underlying skill, I'd be more apt to want to believe in him. But the only positive I've really seen out of him is a bit of grit. Too bad he doesn't have the size to back it up.
  12. Some guys have it. Some guys don't. Krebs turns 24 in January and doesn't have elite size or a crazy shot to fall back on like Tage. If he had it, we'd already know.
  13. Whoever we had in the Byram spot would get a few goals too presumably.
  14. Imagine if we still had Skinner and Mittelstadt.
  15. No Mitts or Skinner on the PP2... That's going to hurt. Skinner had 8 PPG. Not sure of Mitts numbers. Maybe Quinn stays healthy, and no other key guys go down. How likely is that though?
  16. We don't have last year's top scorer Mitts next year. Worse yet, Byram was a negative expected goal player on a very strong Av's team. That's very hard to do. He's still young and can improve, but if he was bad on the Av's he could end up being very bad on the Sabres. I think in a large part, the narrative about him as a player is largely dictated by his draft position. We were 23rd in the league in GF and lost a lot of firepower. Unless the Lindy factor comes through in a big way, there is no way our somewhat improved 4th line makes up the difference.
  17. Cap stressed teams beware! These STL style offer sheets on lower tier players are going to become much more prevalent. They're giving up relatively little for known quantities. I'm guessing this was discussed elsewhere, but based on the compensation rules, if the Sabres would have tendered a $1.5M AAV offer to Malenstyn, we could have had him without having to give up the 2nd. Based on the Caps cap position, they might have pulled it off.
  18. There's lots of individual thread worthy conversation going on in this thread. IMO it would be nice to see the STL/EDM RFA, and CHL/NCAA discussions broken out to separate discussions.
  19. He was in the NHL already... But struggling. In a small 8 game sample size in the AHL he was over a PPG. Most importantly though, he was 6'6 and well over 200lb.
  20. I haven't watched him play like you have... Just with the Sabres and U20s where he's been invisible anytime I've watched. If he doesn't bring elite scoring or above average size, what role do you see him playing in the NHL based on what he's done with the Amerks.
  21. Rosen's career trajectory has been sub-NHL pace since they drafted him, and in his D+4 year that hasn't changed. Adams took a Flyer on him (pun intended) after a very good WC18 tournament. Given the Risto trade 1st round pick practically fell on his lap, he must have been thinking of using it on a high ceiling, low floor player. Unfortunately, that high ceiling is looking further and further from coming to fruition.
  22. My wife and I slept in the Detroit airport one night after a gang fight broke out in the hallway of the hotel we were staying at... Right outside our door. They were threatening to kill each other, constantly bumping into our door. We were literally hiding behind the bed with the door locked and deadbolted. Luckily the police got there before shots were fired. When it sounded like things were cleared, we got to the front desk to check out and demand our money back. Unfortunately, it took quite a bit of convincing as they tried to claim it wasn't their fault. If I recall, I think the police had to help plead our case for us.
  23. Maybe in the short term, but if all the listeners leave and don't come back, then you've lost your entire business. With podcasts, my WGR listening is WAY down compared to just a year or two ago. I'm sure there's many more like me. If cutbacks are coming, hopefully they show Schopp the door first. Its clear he's largely lost interest in watching sports. If it wasn't for fantasy sports, he'd probably be pushing his way into a newsroom or something by now. I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I still like Bullldog. I might not agree with everything he says, but he's still a big fan of hockey and is always happy to talk about it.
  24. I think you're safe going in the fall, but everyone who I know that's gone recently has complained about the summer crowds. My goal is to go in March sometime, mainly for snowboarding the Dolomites, but I'd probably tack on 5 or 6 days in some lesser travelled areas close by... Like Verona, Bologna, and Modena.
  25. Yeah, I don't listen as much as I used to because of this. How much can you talk about a team that plays like 20 games or less a year?!?! Sal Capaccio is an instant channel change. There was maybe a 5 year window after the lockout when the Sabres were good and the Bills sucked. Sabres dominated coverage then and I remember Bills fans complaining. I also remember Schopp and the Bulldog openly admitting they prefer hockey to football.
