  1. I can't speak to what management thinks but if given the do over I pick reinhart everyday and twice on Sundays. He will eventually be a very good player for us, I just don't think that time is this season. Is he Mckinnon or mcdavid? No but I am very confident he will be excellent in time and worthy of second overall in most average drafts.

  2. Here are a few more thoughts for those that didn't get to watch:

*Nobody wants to read this but I thought Flynn looked pretty good out there.

*Although I really want to send Zad back to junior to save a year of eligibility he looked like one of the better players out there tonight.

*Grigo was actually pretty good out there battling in the corners. He was showing some very good effort that I hadn't seen in a long time (if ever?) from him.

*Reinhart on the other hand didn't go in the corners much and lost most battles he did. I don't expect Reinhart to be a guy that should have to go to the dirty areas often but those examples show to me that he is just not there physically yet.

*As had been said I thought Benoit had a good game and is a pretty good player. If he keeps it up it will either make the Sabres decision on Zads or Pysyk easier IMO.

*I get that we were rostering a bunch of AHLers against the Caps but I would like to have seen more scoring chances. Sometimes a team can get shut out and the goalie had stood on his head. This was not one of those nights.

*I thought Armia was alright. Not ready for full time NHL duty based on this game but he was ok. Hopefully after one more year on the Amerks he will make a serious run to make the team next season.

  3. I expect Reinhart is a 80% lock to go back to juniors unless they decide he is okay to play protected minutes without hurting his development.

I would have to guess the exact opposite based to tm's comments last season about there not being much left for him to learn in juniors. Although I want what you are saying, I think this thing is sam's to lose.

Free agent spending has always been a 100% sure fire way to win cups. Look at the Flyers and Rangers lately. Dynasties.

Although I agree with you I'm not sure the rags are the best example. Didn't they play in the cup finals this year?

You should always be able to get two starts per week. The question is, do you get two quality starts per week. You just have to pay attention. Miller would get a rest every now and then, Enroth would start. It was never a quality start, but it counted.

Ya but then I would not be able to use enroth as he would only get the one start and would not comply with the two starts per week min. Or am I missing something?

  6. I don't think he's arguing Grigorenko showed more than Larsson. He's arguing neither showed anything to warrant their play with the big club. I think I would agree with that idea. I didn't watch any Amerks games so not sure what he's done on the farm but he did not impress me at all when he got his shot with the Sabres. I thought he was easily pushed off the puck and just overall ineffective.

  7. The Sabres training camp release has him listed at 238. H's listed as an inch taller than Risto but 33 pounds heavier. That seems like a high playing weight. Especially someone who has to work on his skating. I just would not think the Sabres would give him an offseason plan where he comes to camp at 238. I'm not positive what Zad was playing at last season but I thought I read in another thread Liger say he had gained weight over the summer. Sure it could be muscle but it hasn't looked that way in the limited times I've seen him this year / what I've read.

Edit - it looks like he was playing around 220 to 225. That extra 15 pounds sounds like a lot from an already big dude.

  8. The thing I am most looking forward to this year is watching Risto. He looked the best at development camp (and it wasn't even close) and I've heard good things regarding his play at the most recent tourney. A kid at his age with his size, if he can get the drive to be the best he can be then he'lll end up a monster.

I see a bunch of potential with Zadorov as well. I may be off on this but the main difference between those two right now may be attitude and work ethic. Risto lost a bunch of weight and Zads gained. Was the offseason program for Zads really to gain weight?
