Davidson isn't there just to announce picks.  Not after CBJ is now on their 3rd HC since 2013.  Or missed the playoffs 4 of 9 seasons and not advanced past the 2nd round in that time.

John Davidson has never impressed me as a good hockey executive. IIRC, his stint in STL didn't go well. It doesn't appear to be producing positive results in CBJ either.

Right, because a 24 year old Eichel is the same as a washed up 38 year old Staal, or a 40 year old Gionta.

And a I would take Dunlop as a player coach if he wasn't, you know, dead.

Well, you brought up Duncan Keith and Patrick Kane. Most teams will have their age differences in the roster - regardless of their power rankings or the lack thereof.

Many years from now, you'll look back at this and see that the Sabres will have a season or two of a similar Keith/Kane combination, along with a Stanley Cup Champion banner.

It's the right way to build a team.   Draft picks take time to develop but if done correctly can result in lasting success.

So true. I can't get it out of my head how much Eric Lindros cost himself out of a Stanley Cup Championship simply because he refused to play for the Quebec Nordiques. With everything it took to get him traded out of Quebec City, and with all of the pieces that came together going back the other way (complete with a franchise relocation, along with getting one of the most feared fighters at the time in Chris Simon), he lost out big time.

So, yes, Isak Rosen may be a bit small. However, Owen Power is much bigger.

I don't know what on God's green earth you mean by analytics. I'm quite sure the Sabres used metrics, numbers, regressions, and more that are not publicly available

It goes without saying that some forum members are way more inside hockey than others. The others embarrass themselves by pretending to know more than they really do, and insult the intelligence of those who really know what's going on. Having said that, I'll be one of the first to acknowledge that I don't have nearly the hockey smarts of the inside hockey guys - and I probably never will. Nonetheless, I'm not going to sh!t a brick in my pants just because we didn't get the right player - unlike someone else on the draft thread who might as well as taken a dump in his trousers before having a stroke followed by a meltdown over our first round picks.

No it's not, I've been a Sabres fan long enough to know how this story ends. It's like I've been branded with a big "L"

    Wow.

If that's how you feel, then all the best to you. However, I have a feeling that this conversation may be revisited soon, and you may be forced to eat some humble pie.

I'm having deja-vu when it comes to Sabres GMs. Team is gonna suck FOREVER!!! I'm 53 and I might just be young enough to see the Sabres actually make the playoffs one year. Although, the way I've treated my body in the past, I'm not counting on it.

And then there are some who are quite a bit older who yet have a glimmer of hope that we'll be back in the thick of things.

The pre draft presser they said it was all about how they rate the players PROJECTION longer term.  Adams and Co. must have really liked some specific projection (also character/compete which is high on their list for building culture).  We won't know for a few years.  I'm giving Adams the benefit of the doubt on this one until he proves me wrong.  Go Sabres!

Thanks for the reminder. We have to wait and see. It's not the end of the world.

Thank you! Adams robbed the Flyers, then hours later ruined the draft. ***** clown.
